A short description and link would work.? Would love it if that was as easy to specify / create as it is to do a sticky.

Do you need the entire text of the message?? Would a short description and a link work?

My first thought is to use descriptive hashtags, but it might be difficult to sort that many.? Another thought is to use the wiki with sections for various types of information, then have links to the actual message within that section with a description of what it's about.? (Each message has a permalink at the upper right that you could copy and paste.)? Even a database could be used, but it would need to be one row per item.

Would like to create a collection of valuable postings / threads #wiki

Hi

Our group would like a way to collect postings and threads that would be particularly valuable to have available for easy reference at any point in time.

I know you can make posts sticky, but after a few years I foresee us having hundreds of these posts, and I think that's an excessive number of stickies.

I thought maybe the WIKI would be a good way to do this.? But I don't see any kind of automatic connection between postings and wiki pages.

Would messages have to be manually copied/pasted into a wiki entry?? That would would be very tedious.

Is there another way to best accomplish my goal?

But you haven't said if it's on YG or GIO that you're having a problem.

It's a private group. Neither she nor I am able to get me to the status of member. That's the point of the question!

You should already be the owner of the GIO group that you're transferring into.? If not, get an owner to promote you.

On YG, you only need to be a moderator with invite and promote privileges.

Keep trying.

I've just done a test and my Yahoo group functionality is working again. I can change roles and invite members. That was not working at all for the past two days.

On the other hand, I don't see why you are complicating things and worrying about your Yahoo group owner getting you registered. Just have the Owner do the invite and make the [email protected]?member a moderator.

What now?

Eric Johnson

Now that the barrier has lifted, how do I become an owner so that we may complete the transfer of our second group?

It's a continuing request to have permalinks to photos so they don't move around, similar to what is on messages.? Maybe one day...

Well, Mark said: ?It appears that whatever was ailing Yahoo has been (mostly) fixed, and I'm able to complete group transfers again. I've re-enabled new transfer requests. Fingers crossed Yahoo stays up for awhile.

?I would try again.
Some have mentioned clearing the cache or trying a different browser.
One said about getting into YahooGroups -?This leads me to suggest that you log out of yahoo, clear your browser cache and log back in. Or try a different browser or from a different device. If you know how to remove just the Yahoo cookies ¡ª which is a different process for each browser ¡ª you could try that as well, then log back in.

Re: Calendar features questions

Sorry - got busy doing other stuff.

I tried putting a link to a PDF, and it works fine as a link, but it does not display inline.

Interesting (and annoying) about the changing links to photos in albums. Good to know, though.

Thanks for all the answers!

The "invalid address" error seems uniquely associated with inviting the transfer agent from the wrong provider (groups.io instead of Y!G). See screenshot below, and more to follow.

We can only hope he finds a few more windows of opportunity to help people get moved over here.? It's a good place to read for updates and the latest information on yahoo's meltdown.
is indeed a good place to check for updates of this nature.

As for whether Y!G ever gets running again to the point that transfers again become possible, I'm not sure the good folks at Yahoo care to put any resources into that. Wondering on my end if PGOffline even works anymore.

A few site FAQs:

Re: Photos in Files Section

John,

Bruce's comment still applies. The distinction between a 'photo' and 'file' is very slight (actually non-existent as far as the server's concerned). The file extension is used simply to decide if this is an image - in which case use the 'album' style of presentation - or not. Simplistically, there are relatively few image formats (JPG, PNG etc) in use and people often like to browse the picture, not the filename.? Whereas there are just too many 'other' file formats out there to even try to display and it probably doesn't make much sense to either. It's really no more sophisticated than that. So a file format like PDF or DOCX etc. which can contain images is still just a file.?

Allowing image files (JPG, PNG etc.) in the Files section is just a way of saying you don't want the thumbnail images shown, just the filename. Clicking on the filename then downloads the image, just as a regular file would.

Regards

Derek

No, the restriction is for image file extensions - jpg, bmp, gif, etc.
