Reposting untransferred Yahoo posts to Groups.io?

Hello, new member here (left Yahoo six years ago but now escorting new Yahoo refugees)...? I hope this forum can assist with two questions...? ?these have probably been addressed here in just the last few days, but, apologies, I'm not up to searching 3,000 November posts for the answers...?

One, does anyone have any insight as to response time from Groups.io tech support?? We've had our next question as well as some less urgent business submitted as support tickets over there [ https://groupsio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ ] for more than two weeks now with still no reply at all as of yet.? GIO tech support responded quite promptly to our questions during the transfer of a Yahoo forum to Groups.io in late October, so we're a little disturbed by the ongoing silence now.? We note that the GIO tech support page indicates priority in reply is given to groups.io Premium Service subscribers, which we thought was what we paid for when we signed up for the data transfer.

Two, during the couple of weeks between the time we paid for the transfer of data from our old Yahoo forum to our new groups.io forum, messages at our Yahoo forum continued to pour in and be approved for posting.? Those later messages, obviously, were not harvested in the data transfer.? The question here is how best to collect those Yahoo posts and post them to our new GIO forum so that, like the posts transferred by groups.io,? they are posted at the new site showing the actual original sender's screenname and/or Yahoo ID and/or e-mail sending address, and not instead the screenname / Yahoo ID / e-mail of the group moderator reposting those messages.?

Any assistance or insight will be much appreciated.?

Re: Unable to invite from yahoo

Dakotta, there has been an outage in the interaction between Groups.io and Yahoo Groups. There is a post about it pinned at the top of the messages in GMF. (Topic view only.)
Here's the first in the thread.

I just tested it with Safari and with Firefox. Both work. I wasn't signed in to Groups.io with Firefox.
A glitch? If you give me a keyword, I can test it.

Why is it so hard to find groups? Whatever I type in, nothing comes up.
Further to Frances's comment about potential target groups being publicly visible the success of any given search is based on (a) the group owner setting up their Group Description so that it contains a good selection of keywords relevant to their group's purpose and (b) the person carrying out a search making an intelligent guess about what those keywords might be.

In the case of (a) not all group owners set up their group descriptions in such a way that will make searching for them either easy or successful and in the case of (b) it may require some inventiveness to find the right search terms!

Searching for a particular group name is always likely to be a bit hit and miss unless the relevant words are included in the description, which for understandable reasons they may well not be.

As a general rule the more search terms you use the more likely is some measure of success; the search mechanism returns all instances of each individual term occurring in group descriptions; it does not rely on finding the terms in combination with one another.

I don't know what the limit on the number of search terms is, or the total number of characters allowed. I have tested the search mechanism with ten terms totalling 66 characters (including spaces) and it found them all in one group description; not surprising because I put them all there as a means of testing it!

Also note that the search in the singular will not find plurals; type in "house" and it will not find "houses". It is possible to carry out wildcard searches by the use of *; type in house* and it will find houses, but the downside is that it will also find housewife, housemaid, household, housefly and doubtless others as well. Not so helpful...

Alternative nouns can also be useful; if looking some somthing relating to (say) dogs / cats / horses it is worth including canine / feline / equine and so on.

What sorts of groups are you looking for?

Chris

Re: Search For Groups

Are you trying to find your own groups? Probably not.

If you are talking about groups you wish to join - Find or Create a Group, you need to know that not all groups have opted to be in the list of publicly accessible groups.

I use the search box using just one or two keywords, hoping that the group will have meaningful words in their group homepage description. That is what appears in the description on?/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,0,0

There was a discussion about marketing your group. I have added a few keys words to the description on one of my homepage - using white type (in advanced toolbar). They help improve the retrieving of the group.

But the main thing is that it is up to groups to change that in their setting. In Admin, Settings, Privacy, Visibility.

I double-checked mine to see if it would be found. A good test!

Problem with Yahoo Group

Eric Johnson

I'm trying to get as far as possible given the halt in processing.
?
In our second group, we have been trying to make me an owner so the transfer could proceed some day. The result of trying this is that I have the Yahoo group showing in gray when I click "All my groups".? However, no changes can be made to the record as in attributing "ownership" to me. When I try to do anything I am told that I don't have permission to do what I ask. That includes reading messages.
?
Technically this is true but how is the group listed as one of mine and how do we remove it to start over? I'm certain someone has a wiki on this . . . hint, hint.

As Frances noted, groups.io should "remember" the last view you used and continue to use that.

Did you bookmark the page with the wrong sort order? If so, you might need to create a new bookmark.

Re: Merge Groups

Thanks for the information in post #2.... I feel like a heretic... friendly place...

Partial transfer

Eric Johnson

A question . . .

We had 2 groups that really were part of a whole. There was a "members" Yahoo group and a "Board" Yahoo group. We've successfully moved the members. However, partially due to my having to learn how sub-groups work and partially due to the President being away and unable to make me a co-owner, we missed this artificial about transfers. We felt we had plenty of time to move the Board which only has about 20 members and rather sporadic messaging. Now we have one group in Groups.io and one remains in Yahoo groups.

I would like suggestions concerning how we should proceed. I realize that Yahoo is totally messed up. We are very happy with Groups.io except for this glitch so going back or going elsewhere is down our list of "X" alternatives.

You can edit them, but the edits need to be approved when you're still in the NuM condition.

Re: How to Disable "Mute This Topic"

Yanto

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Frances,

Thanks for your clear explanation.
It's relieve if "mute this topic" only refer to our own email preferences, not group's preferences.
Appreciate your answer with required link. It's a valuable information for newbie like me in groups.io system.

Hi Budhi,
You can't change the footers.

The Mute this topic only refers to your own email preferences. Not the group's preferences.

And you can edit your previous mutes or follows.

Re: Members editing and deleting their OWN messages

I discovered the issue. My 'member' ID was set up as moderated until a set amount of messages were approved. Apparently when you are in moderated status you are unable to edit your own messages; I find that odd, but there you have it. Under my 'owner' ID I overrode the moderated status of my simple 'member' ID and since that time I am able to edit/delete my 'member' emails. Mystery solved.

Thanks for the various comments.

Re: Not getting all of my group postings

Edward,

Are they listed in the Email Delivery History tab of your Subscription in that group? YES

In which section are they listed?

If in the Most Recent Successful Delivery section that's the end of the story as far as Groups.io is concerned. Your email service accepted delivery, what they did with the message from there you'll have to discuss with them.

If in the Most Recent Unsuccessful Attempt section that's indicitave of greylisting. The affected message(s) should eventually either be delivered or be rejected ("bounced") depending on how Groups.io's retries interact with your email service's greylisting procedures.

I have had similar problems with Yahoo groups not delivering all my group's postings.

This indicates that your email service isn't very keen on delivering email list traffic to you. I recommend choosing a better service.

Many years ago (in the DSL days) I switched from Verizon to a cable service as my ISP. In part because of the price/speed benefit, but also in part because Verizon would swallow some of my Y!Group messages and I couldn't get any satisfaction from their technical support. That's my rant.

Re: Office 365 Issues

Larry,

Just look at the first Received Header, and compare its source to
whether it succeeded or failed. This essentially duplicates Lena's
efforts, right?
Sort-of.

Gmail inserts other fields in the message header that detail its results for the various authentication methods used with the incoming message. Things like whether SPF was valid, DKIM valid, DMARC disposition. It may also indicate if a sender failed a reverse lookup, or maybe Gmail would have rejected the message too, I don't really know (yet).

But either way, that's information too.
