Re: Table of contents in a wiki #wiki

Frances,

But I can't figure out how to get rid of the numbering. Here's what my
attempt looks like:
0.0.1 Join Groups.io
I believe that indicates that you have no paragraphs marked as Header 1 or Header 2. Select the Header level in the Formats drop down. When you open that drop-down a black bar on the left marks the current format of the paragraph you're in.

You must start at Header 1 for your outermost level, else the TOC gets confused.

There aren't any numbers in these headings.
Unfortunate but true.

That fact makes it much less obvious what's going on. The only way I know to identify the current paragraph's header level is to drop the Formats menu (or guess based on font size, if you haven't changed it from the default).

And I don't see anything in source - at least not looks like it would create numbering.
<p><em>[TOC:Contents:3]</em></p>
That's just a marker for the position of the TOC. The "3" is the number of levels you selected. For shorter pages I typically use 1, sometimes 2 for longer pages. Even the Transfer details page I only used 2.

The actual rendered TOC is created "behind the scenes" (in the presentation code, I think) - it doesn't even show in the Source code view.

In the body of the page you should see text marked like this:

<h1>top level header</h1>
<p>Ordinary Paragraph</p>

The number after "h" in those HTML tags is the level number (depth) not the sequence number of that header.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I've set up questions on the pending member's notice and it seems to be working well.?

Question: is there a max individual file size allowable? what is it?? Why would the system allow a 376MB file but not a 257MB file?
I'm not aware of any fixed limitation. I will say that groups.io isn't really designed for cloud storage or streaming audio/video. My suggestion is to upload the file to a Google Drive or some such and share it via a link.

Good luck,
Bruce

closing polls

In one of my groups we have a monthly poll where votes are hidden from members till the poll is closed.? Now the question is how can I close a poll without deleting it?

Maybe a separate topic for each photo?

I keep trying on yahoo, figuring if it glitched one way, perhaps it will glitch back the other way.? One did the other day, allowing me to invite and change groups.io to moderator, but within five minutes it reverted back, apparently before the changes could take place.? Frustrating.

Dennis, are you using an ID that does not end in @yahoo.com to moderate? You know, Yahoo issued an email (pretty cryptic) stating that only people with yahoo.com accounts could be administrators. (It never occurred to me that this was a precursor to the shutdown.) At that time, I created a Yahoo.com account and made it a moderator, too. I continued to use my old ID for everything, actually having two email addresses associated with the same group.

Now that the shutdown is occurring, I wanted to back my group up, so I got PG Offline. It could not download the group using my old ID. I had to use the Yahoo ID. Could you be having the same issue?

BTW, the email also stated that the accounts with non-Yahoo domains that Yahoo services (ymail, rocketmail, sbcglobal, bellsouth, ameritech, att, etc.) were included in the disallowed group; they could not be administrators.

OK noted, and thank you for the suggested work around,

Re: Special Notices not delivered to all members who selected Special #specialnotice

Shal, thanks for the suggestion.? I checked with one of the members and found at that they had in fact received the most recent special notice, despite the most recent delivery not indicating that.

e.g. one person uploads a photo, can only name one person and other individual members can name others, or location or date etc. and thus collaborate to make the albums more meaningful ?
This has been on the TODO list for almost 5 years, ? Obviously not a high priority. ;>)? At present, the best work around is to name the photos carefully, then discuss them in a Topic.? It's best to NOT use a direct link to a photo because the addressing can change when any are added or deleted.? There's not (yet) a permalink to each photo.

I'm wondering if this is something that can be done entirely on the groups.io side.
I wondered that myself...but it seems that the OP has already approached Mark with the problem and he did not offer that as an option (ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/24654).

Photo Descriptions & Permissions #photos

Good afternoon helpful Moderators,

We recently transferred from YahooGroups and all went very smoothly and anxieties were addressed generously by the Moderators of this group, thank you again.

1)
Photo descriptions
There are a number of members who "swear" that they remember descriptions on the photos when in YG and those descriptions not transferred over.
I have checked, laboriously one by one against the YG albums and it seems to me that those photos with descriptions did carry over with the same descriptions.

Re: Merge Groups

Huh? if the admin of a group wants to import posts to another group he is admin, it's not his right?

This is what I want to do, please don't extend it outside of groups.io, or where the members of the from and to groups do not approve.

This is simply merging 2 groups.io groups.

So, I'm getting nowhere here, who is the person/persons who I should really be talking to?

There is no such function. Transferring content between subgroups must be done manually.

As for clearing things out and repeating the Y!G transfer(s), at the moment no transfer requests are being accepted (ref:?).

Re: Reverse transfer?

You can keep them both at one location and make one or both subgroups of the larger group.

I would make each one a sub group and consider the main group being an announcement group.
Or better yet,
Have a different topic for the Main group that most members can enjoy and give it a catchy new name.
All subgroup members are members of the main group.

Re: Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group

So, just to be sure, the OP's problem, to not be able to invite?[email protected]?was a brower issue on a Mac, and was solved on a PC.

Just checking since I can still exercise the "invite" option on my old Yahoo groups.

Greg, see this message:

And?

A sticky on the GMF list of topics.?
