Rachel -- You'll find a "Delete Group" button at the bottom of each subgroup's Settings page. Be?absolutely sure?you're in the proper subgroup settings page, not your primary group, when you do this!

You will have to type "I understand" to confirm the deletion...no "cat walking across the keyboard problem" here.

You might well be right, but let me play Devil's Advocate; if your members won't read it when it is sent one way, what will make them read it if it is sent another way?

Or to put it another way: You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

Try going to Admin>Invite>Sent Invitations and deleting that invitation. Failing that, you can just ban him.

No.

If someone has forgotten his password, he can use the "email me a link" button to log in. At that point he can update his own password.

Admin/owner change of other member's paswword.

Hi,

Is it possible for the group admin/owner to change another member's password?

As far as I know, the only one that can change the member's password is the member him or herself. Is this correct?

Thanks for any answer.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Yahoo diaspora,

Re: people jumping in asking questions that have? perhaps already been answered:

Our group will be migrating from Yahoo to G.io, but we're still in the queue, waiting. I subscribed to the moderators' forum to see if I could understand what to look forward to that is difficult for me technologically, but have been overwhelmed with messages - about 125 a day, and since we're not fully transferred on G.io yet, I'm not "getting" a lot of what is going on. I thought I was doing myself a favor getting a head start, but the only "head" it's getting me is a headache. Thus, I, and perhaps others in my situation, will wait until our information is transferred from Yahoo, see what difficulties we're having, and will either check the index at that time to see if it has been covered and/or ask again that which may have been answered several hundred messages ago. If I do try to "repave the same road," I apologize in advance. Until then, I appreciate both the library of information being created here and the frenzy the Yahoo dismemberment is causing all of us.

Good luck to all - see you soon (I hope).

If you think you might ever want a group some day, just hang on to it.? You can always rename it to something else.? If you'd rather not, you can delete it.? A word of warning though.? If you think someone might want to use the same group name one day, change the name to some sort of gibberish before deleting it.? Whatever the group name is when it's deleted can't be used again for some unspecified time, so this would make it available.

Oh, and you might try getting to the YG a few times.? The way things have been lately, it might be a temporary glitch.

Owners and Moderators having "second memberships" as plain members is a common enough technique that is in widespread use. However, trying to use two tabs in the same browser does not / is unlikely to work because as has been pointed out in another thread cookies are shared between tabs in any given browser.

There is a very easy workaround for this, providing that your browser has a "private" mode available see messages #23508 and #23527 further down the above linked thread.

One small point to note is that if you have a shortcut to Groups.io on your desktop (or whatever) it will not work if a "private" browser page is used, or at least it doesn't work when using Firefox. Groups.io has to be found by typing groups.io in the search box and proceeding from there in the normal way.

It might not be a "perfect" solution but it does allow two different accounts to be open at the same time.

What if my Yahoo group was deleted?

I went to the Yahoo group from a link in a Daily Digest and was told the group doesn't exist. The owner had told me that since I didn't want to spend the money on a transfer and he believed no one else in the group was likely to take it over, he would just delete the group.

I would invite the members to here but now I don't have the members list. I have the people who posted in the various Daily Digests but even if the members join, I don't feel confident about handling the responsibilities that go with being the group owner. I just did what I did hoping it would buy us time until someone else was willing to come forward, but the owner decided not to wait for that.

So I have an io group with just me as a member and no one willing to take responsibility. ?

That doesn't work on many browsers, as has been reported here this morning.? You need separate instances of one browser or two browsers.
Or... an extension that allows you to browse multiple sessions in a single window. Two extensions that I have tested and have used for this exact purpose (i.e. to see the non-moderator view of pages), are:

Chrome/Vivaldi/Opera

Firefox

Re: Owner view vs Member view

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I am not quite sure what you mean. If you are a member only, you don¡¯t see the Admin section online. ?Your sidebar looks quite different if you are an owner or indeed, if you are a moderator with only certain privileges.

As an owner of other groups, I get all of the sections in the sidebar - including upgrade. As a moderator with GMF, I see only four Admin functions, just enough to do this job - members, invite, activity, and pending.

If you get an email from the group, it is for all to read.

Removed member keeps rejoining, even though group is restricted

Hello everyone

I had a member whose mailbox was hijacked and is now sending out spam. This member did receive an invitation to join the group (25 Feb) and accepted the invitation (28 May), but I removed the member on the same day. The member rejoined ("accepted invitation via email") on 12 November (and was removed by me again) and rejoined yet again today.

In my tests, an invitation to join a Groups.io group can't be used to rejoin after you've been removed. But somehow this user does it.

My group's membership is set to restricted, and fortunately the first two messages are moderated. But this member manages to join the group without having to be approved.

What's going on here?

Samuel

Re: Owner view vs Member view

While it is definitely a good idea to post that to the beta, in the meantime, you can join under another name if you have a second email account.? Just set it to Member and you're good to go.? Then just open two tabs - one as Moderator and the other as Member and you can flip back and forth without changing the settings.

That's what I do to help my members.

Sincerely,

Rli

Yes, I find this is a good idea.? After all, a big part of a moderator's
task is explaining to members what to do and how to do it.

An alternative option would be to have a link near the top of the page
saying "force member view" or "force non-member view" which, when
clicked, reloads the page as if you are a member or a non-member instead
of a moderator or owner.

As you may be aware, suggestions for improvements such as this one
should be posted to the beta list, and the beta list is temporarily
closed until the end of the year, but please don't forget to post this
idea to the beta list in the new year.

Samuel
