Fabien -- If the recipient's email client honors normal reply-to fields in the incoming message header, simply clicking "reply" should route the response properly (i.e.: back to the group or the sender, depending on group settings).

hello,
If someone wants to reply to a topic, do they have to do it through the web portal, or can they do it directly from email?

Aah, thanks.

- Do you know if the welcome message will form part of it, or will be sent separately?

I was also wondering if the members will be added directly or be given an "invitation" to join, since some of the older information that I have read seemed to indicate that that is what will happen. But I see from this example that members are added directly, and then given the option to unsubscribe.

Also, silly of me, but I have actually received such a message myself very recently when a group that I'm a member of, joined. The text of the message is:

Hello,

The owner of the OLDGROUPNAME Yahoo Group has moved the group to Groups.io, a new Groups service. You have been subscribed to the new group using your email address MYMAILADDRESS. The title of the new group is NEWGROUPNAME user forum, and messages can be sent to it at [email protected]. The group homepage is located [here].

Groups at Groups.io are similar to Yahoo Groups, but we have several new features and we encourage you to explore the Groups.io website. If you have never registered with Groups.io before, your account will not have a password set yet. To log in, you can use the 'Email me a link to login' button to have a link emailed to you that will let you log into the website.

You do not have to do anything to continue being a member of this group. If you do not wish to be a member of NEWGROUPNAME, [click here to unsubscribe] and you will be unsubscribed immediately.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].

Cheers,
The Groups.io Team

"Cheers"... cheers means "thanks" where I'm from. I realise it means "goodbye" in other parts of the world. :-)

Yes.
If so do all previous stored photos remain at 488 x 488 and all new one take the new size of 1024x1024 ???
Yes
As a corollary if I was to downsize a setting in future, would all bigger photos be downsized to the new setting ?

No.

Alan -- If you can download them to your PC, you could then upload them to your group's files area. At that point you could edit each of the affected messages to include a link to those files. But that's the best you can do. There is no attachment icon on the message edit toolbar, thus no way to "reattach the attachments."

The following is a YG help question, but perhaps you would indulge ?
- How can one see how much storage space one is using on YG ?
Go to your group and click on Files. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You will find something to the effect of "Using XX.X MB of maximum 200 MB"
Now click on Photos, followed by Albums. At the top of the page this time, you will find something to the effect of "Using YY.Y MB of maximum 100 GB. ZZZ photos uploaded so far."

Adding XX.X and YY.Y will get you a rough estimate.

Bruce
In my group, we had only 17 attachments associated with 14 messages. Instead of putting them in the files area, I crafted a message with all of them attached. I sent it to the group with a hashtag that had the no email setting. I then carefully edited the older messages in the archive to point to the proper attachments in the new message. It was somewhat laborious, but I think it will be worth it. I had to do a ton of trials in a test group to get it right first.

Image auto-scaling behavior #images #changing #settings

Changing Image Size in Settings - Recently? as a newbie I set up a new groups transferring from Yahoo, about 1000 images.
Being mindful of the 1000MB limit I set the maximum stored photo size to 488 x 488 and now find that with everything transferred and plenty of space available that I wished I had gone up a size and chosen 1024 x 1024 instead.

Can i change the group setting to 1024 x 1024 ? If so do all previous stored photos remain at 488 x 488 and all new one take the new size of 1024x1024 ??? As a corollary if I was to downsize a setting in future, would all bigger photos be downsized to the new setting ?

Question about Sent Invitations

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Maybe a silly question, but deleting someone from the list of Sent Invitations will not delete them from the group, correct?? I'm new to Groups.io and don't want to inadvertently delete members who actually want to belong to our group.

Thank you to all of the moderators here who have been keeping up with answering so many questions.

Can you share how you got it done with PG4?

Exactly.? Our owner went missing back in 2009.? All the settings were then locked int an auto-pilot mode.?? Our moderator for 11 years tried to ask Yahoo to turn the group over to him, but to no avail.? We believe the owner actually DIED.

Now the story gets even worse!? Our groups is the 2nd largest tractor membership on Yahoo.? JD only beats us out.? But there are 4 other related groups as well, created by our SAME owner!? Thus, we are now transferring all 5 groups over into 1 larger one.
?
Wild, eh?? PGOffline has been the useful tool getting all of this data to one place, reviewed, structured and then ready to upload into Groups.io.?
?
We are very pleased with the PG4 folks.? It's helped a great deal.? To do the regular Groups.io transfer would have been crazy for all the groups into one and the cost burden too.? Then the complications with not just the transfer, but the merging too.?
?
Other than our group over there, 2 of the others are on full auto-pilot because the mods left a long while back too.

SOOOOOOOO,? YES, it's good to have the ability to transfer ownership or allow a mod to step up and take over when the time for a change of guard happens.?

By including the full address for it on this group (readable by the public), you've also made it visible to any of the search engines that scan this site.? You may want to edit your post and remove that link.
As Bruce said, anyone that knows (or can guess) the group name can see the home page.? I'm not sure you want to leave your Guidelines and Wiki publicly visible either.

Re: Best way to follow a topic?

A member is reading the latest posts by clicking on the Messages tab and then on a topic. She is reading a thread in a topic.

She decides to subscribe to the topic.
In the email footer, there is a Follow link - if you have the Advanced Preferences activated.
It does bring you to a web-based link that you must click.

Perhaps she would prefer to do one of a few other options.
- She could subscribe to Daily Summary.?
- or if she wants no email at all, subscribe to Special Notices (I like to disable No Mail, but that's up to the group owner.) Then she goes to Groups.io (logged in) and clicks on Groups.io and looks at Feed.

Feed is amazing - it gives you just the subject of recent posts (nested by topic) and any upcoming events.
Try it yourself. No changes needed. Just go to Groups.io and click on Feed.

However the only other suggestion is to create subgroups. That are always on topic!

Are you saying she has to leave the message, climb out to Groups.io and then Topics and then find the topic?!

Tom -- Well yes, or at least climb out of the Message view, as you put it.

I'm surprised that the footer of the web view of a message doesn't have this option. It only has "Reply" and "Like" and "More"

The web experience within a group is only somewhat customizable, and is based solely on the settings for that group. What you propose would require the "footer" (for lack of a better term) of the web view of messages to be dynamically rendered based on an individual subscriber's Advanced Preferences.

To this point, that level of granularity in the web display has not been implemented. Maybe we'll see something like that when the groups.io app is eventually rolled out.

Bruce
