The format of that depends on what the person replying included.? Online, no previous topic information is included unless added by the person replying.? If everything is done via email, individual emails will contain whatever the email client includes.? The one version that removes quotes is the digest.? The summary is just that, a summary with no details.? More info at /static/help#subscription-options

message thread question

I've noticed that the message thread (with or without attachment) isn't included with a reply when single messages are delivered.

From a member's comment below, it appears that's also the case when a Daily Summary is delivered. So is the only way to see the entire thread is to click on view/reply online and scroll through all messages in the thread?

Member's message: "I can't see the original message with the attachment.? I have set it up to receive the daily summary but the original message is not on the daily summary. I am not sure what I am doing wrong."?

You can add a screen/display name if you use the second format listed in the Emails block, to wit:? "Screen Name <email @ address.com>"

Does this mean that the Moderation status becomes the group default, or can it be imported?
It's the group default.

Re: Transferring a yahoo group in stages? #transfer

Hi, I am wondering if and how your staged transfer process worked? ?I am considering similar issues (want to transfer YahooGroup archive of messages before it's too late..., but do not want to invite my YahooGroup members to Groups.io until later, since I just precipitously moved the membership to GoogleGroups). ?So was there a successful way to move the archive and the list of members, but not to welcome the members, not to activate the io group until a later time, perhaps in a month or two? ?And at that later time, would I be able to send the welcome easily?

I hope that all makes sense, and welcome any suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
? Lisa

Re: Best way to follow a topic?

but is there a way for me to get an email of any replies to topics I would like to follow? ?(I don't see a 'follow' button..)

Related, is there a way to look on the web interface at topics I am following?
Well, not quite. But there is a "follow" but doesn't work for group when your subscription is to receive all emails.

Follow This Topic: This is a link to a page which will Follow this topic so that you receive further messages (by email) in this topic. This will only be seen if you have selected Following Only and First Message Also in the Advanced Preferences section of your group Subscription. See the Help page for more information on Muting and Following hashtags.
?
Unfollow This Topic: ?This is a link to a page which will unfollow this topic so that you do not receive further messages (by email) in this topic. This will only be seen if you have selected Following Only in the Advanced Preferences section of your group Subscription. See the Help page for more information on Muting and Following hashtags.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers

If you do opt for Subscription Advanced Preferences, you can see online what you are following, etc.
See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Muted-and-Followed-Topics

I used to follow this group with Advanced Preferences until I was drafted in as moderator recently. I found it useful.

In the "all messages" subscription, you can mute topics - see your email footer for this, for example.

Basic Dark Mode for Groups.io

This style using the stylish program is excellent, adds a nice touch of color to groups.io...

Re: Help with transfer - HELP!!!!!!!!

The problem is that I have received no email saying??the transfer agent has joined my group, flaxseedoil2, and I should promote him to a moderator. ? I also cannot check on the progress of my transfer on the page that is supposed to have a button for checking that.?

3.1 Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]". If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at ?

3.2 Return to the bookmarked page (/yahootransfer) once again. Select the group you are transferring from the Existing Transfers at bottom right (click on its link). A new page will come up, with a status box at the top. If all is well, it should say: "We've received the invite to your group and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." If it doesn't say that, the invitation did not go through. Go back to Step 3.1 above and try again.?

Re: Help with transfer - HELP!!!!!!!!

Francis, You seem to have misunderstood my problem. I did all the steps Including sending an invitation from the group we own FlaxSeedOil2 to [email protected]?I did that, but I have not received an email saying to promote the transfer agent so my files, members, etc are transferred. Also, I cannot check on where my group is in the queue on the page you linked in your last message to me. My flaxseedoil2 is already set up on Groups.io but nothing has been transferred. I paid the yearly fee of $220 on Oct 29 and got an email saying my group was approved. I invited the transferred agent to join Flaxseedoil2. I am the owner of that group. The problem is that I have received no email saying??the transfer agent has joined my group, flaxseedoil2, and I should promote him to a moderator. ? I also cannot check on the progress of my transfer on the page that is supposed to have a button for checking that.?

You wrote: "So you started the transfer but you are stymied by having to invite the email address?[email protected]?to your Yahoo Group.
NO, I'm not "stymied by having to send an invite, I've already done that. The problem is that I have not received any email response from groups.io. ?Why is that? ?Sandra Olson?

auto-subscribe member to subgroup #subscription #subgroups

I think?the answer to this is "no", but in case I missed something...

Our group is one of the ones being made homeless by Yahoo, and we're in the transfer queue right now. Making the most of the opportunity we've been looking to see if there are things we can make use of in GIO that simply weren't there in Y! which should be a benefit to members (of course there are!).

The one that jumped out immediately is the subgroup. The membership is essentially a peer group, so we wouldn't use subgroups to segregate members as such, but rather to coarsely categorise content. Although having now established that you can't move topics between groups - a shame - it would only be a bare handful of subgroups, we'd probably use hashtags for the finer categorisation. All members would be entitled/encouraged to be in all subgroups with the possible exception of a moderators subgroup. So, the point of the question:

Can I have a new member automatically subscribed to a sub group (or groups) without me or another moderator having to direct add, or inviting the member? Not a deal breaker especially, but it would be nice to take one more manual step out of the admin process or the user's process. The subgroups of course would be set unrestricted so minimum hurdles to jump, but even so...

Thanks in advance!

Derek

Best way to follow a topic?

Apologies in advance for this basic question, but is there a way for me to get an email of any replies to topics I would like to follow? ?(I don't see a 'follow' button..)

Related, is there a way to look on the web interface at topics I am following?

Thank you!

Re: Move messages AFTER group transfer?

You could forward them, but they lose their ownership and threading.
You could download them and put them in Files in your group homepage on Groups.io.

You say "snapshot". It is more than that!
5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
?
Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.
?
Those with "no mail" status in YG migrating to a Groups.io group with "no mail" disabled will have Special Notice status instead.

Have you checked your transfer status?

Check the wiki for instructions ?- and see also about posting after transfer:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups

9. How do I stop people posting on Yahoo Groups after the transfer?
?
If you didn't uncheck the 'Send a message to your members when the transfer is complete' box they will be sent a welcome message (ditto if you have a group welcome message). That will be tracked for bouncing. Whether that actually triggers someone being removed depends on the type of bounce back received.
?
Assuming you have already sent the group a notice of intent to transfer, you only need follow up with those who didn't get the message. The easiest way is to put the entire group on moderation. Or in the YahooGroup management settings, you can set it so that nobody can post to the group.
?
After transfer you could post the group email address on YahooGroups saying that this group has moved.
?
You might suggest the members tidy up their address book. In Apple Mail, you can delete unwanted previous recipients (under Window).
?

Not directly.? You'd have to forward or copy each one as an email from you, so much of the 'envelope' would be lost.

Re: My group transferred BUT is missing first two years of messages (about 20,000)

Bill,

?
My group transferred last night, and all messages prior to 1/12/2007 are gone.?
?
If you haven't already, you might want to try Yahoo Groups' downloader:
?
I say that because Y!GMF's founder discovered that for one of his groups it contained old messages which he could no longer access through the Yahoo Groups interface.
?
That won't help you get the messages into your Groups.io group, but if it works for you at least you'd have them.

Since Gio took the snapshot of my Y! group, there have been messages posted there.? Once my Gio group transfer is completed, can I move those messages myself manually?
Tks,

Bill Kay

Well, I'm glad that the capability to bring messages over goes that far back.
My group is under 100,000 messages, and the 2005 / 2006 messages disappeared.
I've emailed [email protected]?
Maybe they can re-export, re-import ..... or at least try another re-import or partial re-import.

It's the blue pull-down menu at top left.
What I'm loving about GIO is that it's so rich in features -- and there are so many valuable ways I can play with the list. Finding those features, though, and this isn't a complaint, is sometimes a challenge. --Steve

They shouldn't, assuming you're transferring members.

If we disable New Users Moderated, after Transfer, will we have to approve each applicant's subscription?
No, any members transferred are fully approved members immediately, regardless of group settings.
