I think?the answer to this is "no", but in case I missed something...
Our group is one of the ones being made homeless by Yahoo, and we're in the transfer queue right now. Making the most of the opportunity we've been looking to see if there are things we can make use of in GIO that simply weren't there in Y! which should be a benefit to members (of course there are!).
The one that jumped out immediately is the subgroup. The membership is essentially a peer group, so we wouldn't use subgroups to segregate members as such, but rather to coarsely categorise content. Although having now established that you can't move topics between groups - a shame - it would only be a bare handful of subgroups, we'd probably use hashtags for the finer categorisation. All members would be entitled/encouraged to be in all subgroups with the possible exception of a moderators subgroup. So, the point of the question:
Can I have a new member automatically subscribed to a sub group (or groups) without me or another moderator having to direct add, or inviting the member? Not a deal breaker especially, but it would be nice to take one more manual step out of the admin process or the user's process. The subgroups of course would be set unrestricted so minimum hurdles to jump, but even so...
Thanks in advance!
