James -- Yes, the current behavior of digests is to collapse the top- and bottom-quoted parts. Otherwise the 12 post in a digest can get really long and choke some mail servers (not so much of a problem today as it once was).

Of course, this assumes that the person responding quoted any of the previous message at all.

Is there some setting etc that I can change so that the digest will also have the prior email?
No, but you can intersperse the quoted part with the responses, as I have done here. Such quotes do not collapse.

Q about digests

The digests are coming with only the portion of an email that is the new part of a response. For instance if I post a question to the group and someone responses to my question the digest only has their response and not email giving the question.

Howard -- Look at the subgroup's home page. Does a Feed link appear there, under "Group Information?"

If not, it's probably because your message archive is private. RSS feeds will not validate for private groups, as this would provide a "back door" for those with bad intentions to gain access into your otherwise-hidden messages.

P.S. It is not possible to make a private [sub]group public again.?

No one ever responded to this, and I see this is still not working properly in Groups.io.

Re: #bug #bouncedemails Updated Email Addresses Still Show As Bouncing #bug #bouncedemails

When I have direct information that a group member's email address has changed and that that member is bouncing, it seems to me that instead of trying to change the member's address, which does not seem to keep him from bouncing (I checked his bouncing history), it now makes more sense to me to just delete his old membership and then direct add him as a new member with his new email address. ?Does that sound reasonable? ?

Someone needs to keep trying to send this invitation until the groups.io transfer status changes to "We have received your invite and will accept it soon." If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??

Currently, yahoo will not allow me to send more invites as they have decided that moderators can't do that.? At the same time, they have refused to allow the owner of the group to sign in, so she can't help.

The transfer agent needs to have Moderator permissions in order to read all of the group content.

You must not only be able to invite the transfer agent, but also subsequently promote it to a Moderator itself once the invitation is accepted. If -- for whatever reason -- you are unable to perform BOTH functions, you won't be able to complete the Easy Group Transfer process.

Very few Yahoo Group Moderators are given the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" permission. This is necessary to promote the agent to Moderator.?

But as I have noted in other posts, with the four groups I own or moderate, in some of them the moderator can do anything and in some of them, even the owner is not allowed to do certain necessary tasks.? I'm not sure if yahoo is glitchy because of all the data flow or because their techies don't care any more.? But it is frustrating.

It certainly is.

I suggest you work with the existing Owner to somehow get his/her account up and running again. If you don't, it frankly sounds like you're never going to be able to take this to completion.

Sorry,
Bruce

Re: Welcome Message Confusion

Because the created Welcome message arrives late, the new member can (and often will) submit a post without seeing my created message & Guidelines. This causes problems because although they are not approved yet, they haven't seen important info about composing their post.?
?
This inevitably means that those members who post immediately after only receiving the basic welcome message now have to be instructed on how to edit their post (or I have to edit it) to conform to our group rules before it can be approved.?
?
From what I have read, the Member Notices > Welcome message - and I would assume, the Guidelines - are not supposed to be sent out to moderated members until after their membership is approved. Is that not the case?

Are these transferred members from YahooGroups?

Are they members you direct added (Premium or enterprise groups)?
Or are they members you invited?

If they sent in a subscribe email (rather than you direct adding or inviting them) to join your restricted group, you can set up a Pending Subscription notice that includes any information that you want them to know about.

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

I wanted to make sure I had the list of email addresses to use for the same standard monthly message as on Yahoo groups, if we used it.

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

There is no standard message that is sent out monthly. That is up to each group to set up.

Edit your Monthly Reminder notice in Member Notices.
Your group guidelines also goes on your home page left side - just below Home.

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

Thank you for that. I meant that the group owner might decide to keep the same policies from the Yahoo group, which might be more strict than those listed above. So if there is a standard message, those details might be added to that. Or we might send two monthly messages, one like the one above and one with our specific policies. I haven't heard back from the group owner, but when I was the only one willing to take over, the responsibility became mine. Now I believe the group owner will find someone else and that will be a big relief.

Welcome Message Confusion

I recently created a moderated group; we have about 35 members.?
?
When a member joins, they immediately receive a basic groups.io welcome message (that I apparently cannot edit). About 5-10 minutes after receiving this initial basic message, they receive the message I have created in Member Notices > Welcome, as well as a copy of the group Guidelines.
?
Because the created Welcome message arrives late, the new member can (and often will) submit a post without seeing my created message & Guidelines. This causes problems because although they are not approved yet, they haven't seen important info about composing their post.?

I GOOFED! Changed email address and my moderator status disappeared

I recently created a group called DanielPinner. Of course, since I created it, I was automatically the owner and moderator of the group. I set about inviting members to the group and rec'd 7 positive replies from people who joined.

I wanted to change my email address to something else, but that's when my problems started. My "moderator" status seems to have disappeared, and suddenly now I'm just a member! I no longer see the section for moderators on the left side.... So I don't have access anymore to the list of people I invited/messages that bounced/people who accepted my invitation.

While the code says that it is being queued for delivery and that is what should be happening, because it is an OUTLOOK domain that is giving the response, it is also possible (probable) that the message will not be delivered.

Googling this 2.6.0 code and Outlook shows that many others are seeing this problem. This has been going on for many years with Hotmail and Office365 mailservers. Here is an example with a possible resolution.

Re: How long for groups.io to become a member

This is the same problem I have been experiencing for last 12 days. Transfer page says they received the yahoo invite and will respond shortly - that was 12 days ago; but no actual response as to accepting invite has happened yet - they have not actually joined the yahoo group yet. Others on this list advised me to send the yahoo invite again. I did - and all that did was to update the transfer page with note that there was no need to send the invite again. I am also at a loss as to what to do next.

Best Regards,
Arthur Goodwin

Dennis -- Did you go to your Yahoo Group and send an invitation to [email protected]? After you select your Existing Transfer at /yahootransfer , what does the status box at the top of the resulting page say?

The transfer agent will not join the Yahoo group without an invitation, and sometimes Yahoo fails to send an invitation even when you tell it to.
