Two questions about new members joining
We¡¯ve just been transferred and have two questions regarding new members joining.
We have two different applications. The first occurs when they click join (all members must be approved; this is a closed, private all-moderated group). On Yahoo a box pops up asking why they want to join. We use it to screen and accept or reject members. We want that box. The second application contains several questions they must send in. We want to that to go to them automatically after we approve them as members. In addition we have about 6 welcome messages that have various purposes - guiding them around the forum, rules of the road, etc. We want those to also go out upon approval for membership - automatically. Can you tell me if these things are possible and if they are, how would I go about setting up each one? Thank you very much - Susan B |

However, it does seem to work if you just ignore where it says DT and the UTC offset. At least, mine says UTC-3 ADT and yet it is displaying my correct time now. I think it may be that the intention of the label was to identify the timezone and whether or not daylight savings? is used for that timezone. Either that or the labels were supposed to change to reflect when DST ended, but that didn't happen. I assume from your post that you are in Eastern timezone. Set your choice to Eastern Time. While it says something about EDT, you can check and see that your display time is actually correct. With the change to EDT in the spring, you won't have to change your preference. ? -- Gerald |
Re: Member Switchover Timing
Gilbert,
Thanks for your information. I created my groups at Groups.io with a different email address, but then added my Yahoo email that I used to create the Yahoo groups I am transferring. Since I read your advice, I removed the Yahoo owner email so it will get transferred back here with my group members. Nostalgia counts for something.? |
Only Daylight Time?
#timezone
When setting up my new account the timezones don't include DT and ST options. For example, Eastern (US) Time only lists EDT, but EDT ended several days ago. For repeating events or for events created on one side the DT/ST switch that occur on the other side, this can cause problem.
So I can use CDT, but then when we actually go back to DT, I'll have to change to EDT.? I've never seen a time zone list that doesn't take care of DT and ST. |
Re: Files in transfer are assigned to what members?
Ah gotcha.? She was the initial owner of the groups.io (started it), but I initiated the transfer, so that would make sense that they were assigned to her.? The members who uploaded those files are most likely not members anymore as we have a somewhat fluid membership.? ??
The transfer also seemed to indicate 150 files, but they aren't in the files section.? It looks like they are actually emails that are somehow saved as *.eml files within messages.? I assume those files are still readable in some way? Is there any way to edit the timestamp on messages that were transferred over?? There are two messages that are somehow time stamped in 1999 (which is 2 years before our Yahoo Group started), but reading the content tells me it should be sometime in 2004. |

We had a small number of files and photos transfer over (<200).? They mostly seem to be assigned to one of our moderators even though she didn't upload them and some even predate her joining the original Yahoo group. For any files or photos where the original posting member didn't get transferred, ownership should be assigned automatically to the person that handled the transfer (or possibly the group owner?).? Photos can be reassigned to another member with some work, but not files. Files in transfer are assigned to what members?
Hi everyone. |
Re: Growing a group

If your group is in the directory of publicly listed groups, check how much of your homepage description shows up in the directory. Make sure you have good keywords. Google retrieves the links to the group.

Re: how do add attachment to old messages

I just looked at very early messages in my travel group - it had been transferred from Yahoo several years ago. No toolbar. However there is an associated URL for each - the number in the top right. Could you rig something up by putting something in Files or Databases with a link to the right post? |

Re: How can I keep messages from hiding email address information after @
There is a setting: Admin->Settings->Settings Tab->Privacy Section->Hide Email Addresses in Archives
toggle quoted message
Show quoted text
which can be set to ¡°Do not mask email addresses in the archives.¡± or ¡°Mask all email addresses in the web archives.¡± When it is set to the ¡°Mask¡± setting, when viewing the messages in the archive the messages show up like your example. When it is set to ¡°Do not mask¡±, addresses show unmodified. However, the setting does not affect how the message is sent out in email messages. It only affects how things look in the Archives, ie. when you look at the email messages on the groups.io website (at /g/yourgroup/messages or ) I¡¯m not aware of a setting that enables/disables the displaying of email addresses in the actual emails sent to members from your group. Re: Yahoo Group Import Question
I recall Mark commenting how PGO is going to do it. Surely the process is not going to be very easy. Mark has invested in GIO heavily and he is not going to idly watch all the work go down the tube. Looks like after Dec 14, the future financial sustainability of GIO is going to be based on subscription. All the back end operation costs a lot of money and it cannot be sustained without sufficient income.

Awwww! I assumed the owners date would have been preserved, since we had to create the group.
Thanks for the info - had I known what to ask on October 18¡¡ Diane On Nov 5, 2019, at 11:17 AM, Gilbert Coville <gilbert-groups@...> wrote:[excess quote trimmed by moderator] |
