Alex,

Maybe you can track him down in their forum...

I see Wilson has been active their recently. The forum also provides Personal Messagers (PM).

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

Slowly but surely we will all get there. I am at the 744 groups ahead of me. I'm OK with that. At least it will happen!?

Re: The Hashtags feature is part of which plan?

Yes, thanks Bruce and Duane. David. *what*?? LOL It went right over me. I think I will just leave my settings as they are. I mean if people want to use them, knock yourself out. I just left it on the messages can be tagged with new hashtags.
Thank you!!

That isn't strictly necessary, or shouldn't be.? Just a "partial" of the address before the @ will find any match. (It will also work on addresses that have something personal after the @ but they are less common.)

I get the feeling that the original query was posed after a search on "Pending" members didn't produce any results; as Duane pointed out the search needs to be done on "Members".

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

Well, there doesn't need to be ONE correct one. The person will probably want to include them all.

I'll check on that. The person in charge of my Yahoo group is looking at getting someone else to do it and told me just drop it.

Lisa -- The archive is exported in mbox format. It is readable using any text editor, but not is very friendly. I believe you can open it in Thunderbird and a few other desktop email clients, but have not actually tried it.

2. ?If our ?io,groups members want to just use the service to send from and receive in their email program, is that possible, or do users have to use the web interface?
If all you want to do is communicate by email, it is not necessary to ever log into the groups.io web interface.

3. ?If we use the io.groups migration service year one, I understand the annual fee is $220. ?Then can we go back to free in subsequent years?
Yes, assuming that after that one-year period your group storage remains under the 1GB allocation available to Basic groups. Otherwise at that point you will find yourself unable to upload any further such content to the group.

Newly transferred. So far, groups.io seems excellent

Have you tried the exact email address in the Members search box?

I just got up and running on my group early this AM and want to find a particular member and not finding out how and where to look them up.

I go to members under Admin and only have one pending approval. Tried entering info on member address in search box with and without % at the end like Yahoo but that did not bring them up.

Tried looking under Directory and get boxes for each member with picture icon, name and button to email but that is totally useless with almost 1300 members to track someone down.

Re: To spend more $$$ we need more data on rate of que processing?

I had to move two groups and one has moved even though it took about 10 days. Done perfectly.
The second one is in queue and moving forward slowly.
The slow speed is obviously due to expedited move requests.
We have to understand that the additional fees is to provide expedited service and many who chose are quite happy.
Yahoo group email distribution is still working. December 14 is the drop dead date for losing archived messages, photos and other files.
Mark has promised to get all requests received by Dec 1 to accomplish the transfer.
And GIO is working hard to address the crunch.
Let us have some patience.

Susan:

Here's my take on hashtags. They are a way to categorize relevant posts and help elevate them to viewers. While?viewers could do a search of all the posts¡ªdepending on the word or phrase¡ªthey could end up pulling up a lot of irrelevant results.?

Another feature of hashtags is you can designate aliases and point them to the primary hashtag.?

This can be very useful with acronyms.? I don't know what focus your group has, but with mine (use of keywords and other embedded photo metadata for images) there are lots of acronyms.?

I've been designating hashtags, but haven't given the members permission to do this... yet. I'm considering, which is why I asked if this was limited to a plan, as I didn't want to get invested if I was going to have to drop this feature later.?

Does that help?

David

Susan -- Hashtags are not really necessary, but?there are some features that can only be fully implemented by means of hashtags.

Here are some of the uses I've found for them:
-- Make a topic expire and automatically be deleted from the message archive (or locked) after a certain time period
-- Force an override of the usual group reply-to setting on a topic so that all replies come directly to me instead of the group
-- Force an override of the group moderation setting so all replies go through moderation
-- Highlight messages that relate to groups.io administrative functions (i.e.: that aren't related to the normal flow of conversation)

They can be powerful, but there's also much opportunity for abuse...the most annoying being when subscribers rely solely on hashtags as a?replacement?for providing a relevant subject line for their posts. Therein lies madness, at least from where I stand.

For this reason I have my group set up to allow only predefined hashtags that provide desired functions, and do not allow subscribers to create them. Unfortunately, you cannot turn hashtags completely off -- the system hashtags will continue to appear on notifications for any enabled feature that generates them.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

I paid for our Premium upgrade last Friday, I think, and were about 1050.? Sunday we were 1157 (ish) and right now we are 1105.?
It's been going up and down - I guess new groups are paying the extra $200:/

You probably won't have any use for them then.? If you use the Calendar or Poll features, a few will be created by the system.? You can read about them at:

From my interactions, I'm guessing this is a one-person operation, so it's possible he might be traveling, etc. Or he might be innundated with questions, giving the changes going over at Yahoo (creating an increase in interest).?

What questions did you have? There has been a lot of talk on this forum, so most of your concerns may have already been addressed.?

I had one issue when first launching, and got a response within 24 hours.?

Given the 14 day trial period, and the following note reported here on this forum, I'd say download and kick the tires:

"Something you should also consider is that PGO will not hold your data hostage. When the trial expires you will still be able to read, sort & search your messages as usual. You will not be able to download any new messages but that doesn't sound like it's going to be an issue for your group. All your group members can download PGO, import your edited archive and then use PGO indefinitely for free."

Re: Yahoogroups claims I have no data???

I was logged into the only account I have - my? yahoo address, and had accepted their TOS. However, the address I have on the list is a different one, and I don't have access to it anymore. Could that be why?? What if I go change the address to the current one? Will I then be able to download or is the problem on their end?

Do you have evidence for that, or is it just a logical assumption. I
assumed that too, but I was given the "no data" answer.

I accepted their TOS early on, when first required. So that's not the
issue in my case.
