Re: Yahoo has now created a downloader #yahoo

I used a Yahoo method in an attempt to download an entire group of which I'm the owner.? I got what seem to be all the messages, but the files and photos seem to be only ones that I uploaded to Yahoo.? I also got what seem to be all the thousands of emails from a group of which I am a mere member.

Does anyone know if Yahoo has a method that would allow me to download a more complete set of the files and photos from the Yahoo group I own?

Re: Bouncing Members

Bob,

members until today. This evening I now have 97 bouncing members and
almost all of them have Yahoo.com addresses.
Interesting. But I wouldn't necessarily read too much into it.

And the latest bounces started at 5:36PM and it says ¡°Email to¡° is
bouncing via the system. However, no emails have been sent since
yesterday.
Bouncing is tracked for the email address across all groups. So the bouncing in those cases may have been triggered by messages in some other group.

Check the members' Email Delivery History to see what you can learn. It won't tell you much if the bounce was triggered by a different group (privacy), but the rejection could also be of a message from your group, long delayed by Yahoo Mail.

Re: migration question

Cathy?

If you used Groups.io's transfer, this is what should have transferred:
5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.
Those with "no mail" status in YG migrating to a Groups.io group with "no mail" disabled will have Special Notice status instead.

It is up to you, of course. Please do check whether it is group-wide or just your own personal posts, photos, etc.

Re: migration question

Cathy,

Did posts (photos and files) to the forum page not via email migrate
to Groups.io ...
That depends. Does "migrate" mean that you (or someone owning/modding that group) used the Easy Yahoo Groups Transfer mechanism? If so, they did, unless the person running the transfer deselected them in the transfer controls.

Unless by "not long ago" you mean it is process now, I'm curious why you need to ask. Is there some reason you can't tell by looking at the content in the group here?

or should I perform the download yahoo is offering to preserve our
history?
That, or PG Offline. For $25 it is cheap insurance:

Personally I've had zero luck with the offered download from Yahoo. My first two attempts both yielded a notice that there was zero content this for an account which has been active in multiple groups since 2003. An attempt under a different Yahoo Account is still pending.

Others have reported receiving a link to an archive containing all of their groups' content. So your mileage may vary.

I won't worry much about the Yahoo download, as I have what I want via PG Offline. Still, it is annoying not to see what others see.

Changing a group to become a sub-group of another group

Follow-up to my question. I believe I resolved this already, so please disregard. I was able to rename the one group to something else, then I could create a subgroup under my other main group with that name.?

?

All good for now, thanks.

migration question

catherine martell

Hello,
Colloquy migrated from Yahoo groups not long ago. Yahoo groups is going to delete at least some of our archive in December. Did posts (photos and files) to the forum page not via email migrate to Groups.io or should I perform the download yahoo is offering to preserve our history?

Cathy Martell

Re: PG Offline users #pgoffline

Ian,

Please bear in mind you still need to download your membership list
from Yahoo Groups manually.
That is incorrect.

PGO is one of only three means I'm aware of to obtain a complete members list for a Yahoo group with more than 1000 members.

The other two being a Chrome browser plug in, and of course, a transfer to Groups.io.

Bouncing Members

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Our transfer went fine a couple weeks ago. Have had some activity with posting messages from various members. Everything seems fairly normal. When the transfer was completed it, the message I got was ¡°Bounced Members (Skipped): 0¡±?

Once we started sending messages, I noticed about 6 or 7 members were bouncing. That has been the case pretty much every day for those 6 or 7 members ?until today. This evening I now have 97 bouncing members and almost all of them have??addresses.?

And the latest bounces started at 5:36PM and it says ¡°Email to ¡° is bouncing via the system. However, no emails have been sent since yesterday.?

I¡¯m a little puzzled. Anyone have some guidance?

Thanks,

Bob Miller

No.

You can't do this, either...or at least no one has reported doing it (and yes, this question has been asked several times, both here in GMF and in beta).

Groups.io provides a group export function but there is no corresponding import function. It is possible to transfer a Yahoo group into a subgroup...assuming the primary group is on the Premium Yearly plan...but if you want to move content that's already here between [sub]groups, you will have to do that manually.

Bruce

Re: Changing a group to become a sub-group of another group

You want to change a group to be a subgroup of another (main) group.
For what you want to do, you must contact support.

Existing Group as a Subgroup?
It is easy to create a subgroup. However, if you wish to transform an existing Groups.io group into a subgroup, it may be possible, but you must contact support.?
?
If you wish to transform a Yahoo or Google group into a Groups.io subgroup, create the subgroup and treat it as the destination of the transfer process, proceeding as you would for any other transfer.

Re: Applied member approved by system ?

groups ahead of ours

Hi,

When I completed what was required to transfer our group, K9-epiglobal@Y!, to [email protected]., the message stated there were 533 groups ahead of ours. My last update, said there were 460 or so ahead of us...made sense....given what was going on with Y! and the power outages in CA. A few minutes ago, it said there were 1133 groups ahead of us?! Huh?

Re: Applied member approved by system ?

Bill,

We have a closed group and, for the first time, I had a new member
apply for membership, and ... I found that the system had approved
him. ... There are two of us in that management loop, but I checked
with the other guy and he had not even been in the system.

Have you ever seen this happen before.
No.

I'd check the group's Activity log. It should show how the member was approved. Approval by email is supported (just Reply to the notification) so an accidental approval is possible even without visiting the group's pages.

Yahoo shut off crunch - Backing up messages

Many of us are patiently waiting for the transfer from YG to GIO. Many have used PG Online in the interim. There is great silver lining to PGO to protect all your data in YG. Wilson, the author posted this ---

Something you should also consider is that PGO will not hold your data hostage. When the trial expires you will still be able to read, sort & search your messages as usual. You will not be able to download any new messages but that doesn't sound like its going to be an issue for your group.

All your group members can download PGO, import your edited archive and then use PGO indefinitely for free.

Kudos to Wilson for being fair to all users.

Re: Photo Description content - Automated transfer from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io

Hi Shal

Thanks so much for your very helpful reply.

Now just the battle to get the members to pledge the remaining amount to pay for the groups.io US$220 transfer fee!

All the best

Ian

----

Ian,

During the Automated Transfer process from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io,
does the photo or file DESCRIPTION content from my Yahoo Groups group
get automatically carried across to my Groups.io group
Yes they do.

I like Groups.io - it continues to keep getting better. Hope you can
offer a better deal for small *no $* hobby groups like ours,
There are options to paying for the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer, but those won't copy all of the data for you.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups

If you can't spring for a transfer, you might consider PG Offline as a way to make sure your contents get archived before Yahoo Groups removes it from their servers. I think they've ended the Free Trial offer, but the license fee is reasonable as I recall.

Re: Login of new member #addmembers #archive

Thanks for your answer ,
For my own login request that I sent on oct 31, I just see in my email box received on nov 3 :
Here is a link to log into your Groups.io account:
/loginlink/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It will expire in 24 hours, on 11/01/2019 at 10:56pm PDT,
but you'll stay logged in for 30 days, unless and until you log out.

So I received this answer 3 days after my login request !!!!
Is the problem there ?

Yahoo has now created a downloader #yahoo

I received an email from yahoo and in it it said
"If you would like to keep any of the content you¡¯ve posted or stored in the past within your Yahoo Group, please download it by December 14 by accessing?."
Looks like it only allows a person to download their own posts and information, so we still need to do a complete group download.

Thanks. I didn't want to assume. Good to know that the permission to create them can be controlled. I was starting to explore but wasn't sure how heavily to invest in this feature.?
