Re: Does Groups.io keep a record of invitations? #invitation

dave w

You call them tabs- I only see buttons. Big difference.

OP- Go to Admin/? Invites, select the second button Sent Invitations, which displays the result of all- Sent- Accepted- Bounced/ Rejected etc.

Lets not over complicate an interface that has to be sued by thousands of admins, both technical and non-technical.

Links Transferred From Yahoo

Hello

My links transferred over from yahoo?and are placed in the Database section. Is this the best option? Playing with it. It?looks ok but takes some?getting used to.

I have seen some on here mention that?wiki is the best option for links. I cant seem to get that figured out. Does a step by step (with screen shots) exist for setting up links on Wiki?

Thanks all

Re: Two problems with emails being sent by our group

Harvey,

*From:*Nancy ... via Groups.Io <nancy...@...
As Duane said, this form is used when the sending service (me.com in this case) demands that email lists do this.

Occasionally, members report emails arriving out of order -- not
all the time, but occasionally. Also we've seen occasions where
emails took hours to arrive.
Some email services use Greylisting as an anti-spam measure. They really shouldn't apply that technique against an email list once they've seen messages from it before.

The problem with this technique is that it rejects the message the first time it is sent, and relies on Groups.io's server to re-try. That introduces an arbitrary delay in the receipt of that message.

You can also check the Email Delivery History tab of the affected member's page in the Members list to see if there are any clues there about message delivery to that member.

Re: Emails from my vBulletin Forum not appearing #bouncedemails #email

Thanks for all the replies.

I have been doing a lot of testing with various parameters. The only thing which gets through is the vBulletin diagnostics test email - that gets through every time.
?
I have setup the forum so that these emails are sent both to groups.io and one of my other email addresses. The messages never show up on groups but always appear in the inbox of my other account - so the forum is definitely sending the emails.
?
None of the missing emails are listed on the activity log, just the diagnostic emails that went through. I am not receiving any bounces from groups.io either.

All the emails being sent to the group use the correct email address registered with it.?
?
Nothing I did could get the system to accept the incoming emails the normal way. I then tried the integration emails and that worked first time.?
?
I looked at the email headers for the same incoming email in comparison with Yahoogroups and group.io and one thing stood out:
?
With the email sent to Yahoogroups, dkim passed as usual
?
Authentication-Results: mta4002.groups.mail.bf1.yahoo.com;
dkim=pass (ok) header.i=@... header.s=default;
?
When I looked at the header of the incoming email on groups.io, the dkim failed!!!
?
?Authentication-Results: mx.groups.io;
?dkim=fail reason="body hash did not verify"?
?
As the body hash was the same for both emails, could it be there is a problem with the way dkim is being checked at groups.io?
?
Is this perhaps the reason my normal emails are being sucked into a black hole?
?
Anyway, I will do some more checks and use email integration. It actually has an advantage as I can set different hash values for each section of my forum.
?

Re: Emails from my vBulletin Forum not appearing #bouncedemails #email

Peter,

Strangely, the emails are not arriving on groups.io from the forum.
As Duane said, check the group's Activity log to see if there's any indication of those messages being received and rejected. If there is no log entry at all I think that could only mean that the email was sent to the wrong address.

I have not received a bounced email, either.
That was the other thing I would have suggested checking, but I wasn't sure if vBulletin would give a means of viewing rejections.

Alternatives:

Check the "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" box in the Message Policies section of your group settings. But that would hold each of these messages your group's Pending folder.

Or, as Bob suggested, use an email integration - that's actually the designed means to accomplish what you're trying to do.

Yeah, I'd enjoy seeing something like that as well. Maybe
include other info, such as number of members, messages, files,
etc, but that info may not be available. Might be a good question

I know that at least 2250 groups have been transferred, but not
how many of those were recent.

I would be interested in knowing the numbers as well, Duane. I recall transferring a couple groups during early 2017 when things were falling apart at Y! We seemed to have a big crush of groups moving then, but that was nothing like this last few months.

Based on some of his comments, I believe Mark, the site owner, does a lot of his work with Chrome on a Mac.? I'd be very surprised if there were a serious problem with it (unless Chrome has made a recent change that broke something.)

If you mean that you already paid the $220, you only paid for the
transfer, not to expedite it by moving you ahead of those who didn't
pay the ADDITIONAL $200 expediting fee. If you paid the $220 PL:US the
additional $200, then you need to make sure you're getting the
expedited transfer. However, I think you were referring to having paid
the $220 transfer fee, not the expediting fee of an additional $200.
To do both costs you $420.

Erika -- Your transfer is proceeding, but is not being expedited.

You have probably seen many people here in GMF talk about how there are 800 or 900 groups ahead of them in the transfer queue. Waiting for every one them to be processed before groups.io gets around to importing your group could take a month or more.

If you want to jump to the head of the line, it will cost you another $200. That's what the button is for.

Bruce

You could save them in your email client and forward them one by one...but frankly, there is really no GOOD way.

If it were me, I'd encourage people to just go ahead, join the GIO group, and start posting there. The downsides of doing so (i.e.: losing their vanity "join date") do not strike me as very compelling.

Expediate transfer #transfer

I followed Bruce's step by step guide and started by paying $200 for Premium Service for a year.

I've now had notification from the transfer agent that my invitation to my Yahoogroup has been accepted, the agent has been set as moderator and I have given the transfer the go-ahead. The only button still available on the transfer screen is "expediate transfer for $200". If I click that, it asks if I'm sure that I want to pay.

But I have already paid and I have payment confirmation.

Is by transfer being expediated or not now?

Thanks.

Re: What do I do: Yahoo! #transfer only brought ~4,500 of ~14,500 messages #transfer

Paul -- The number found on your group home page (under "Group Information") is the number of topics, not messages.

Go to?/g/GROUPNAME/messages?(where GROUPNAME is the actual name of your group). The number at upper right will give you the total number of messages (viz: the attached screenshot). Please let us know if this number is more to your liking.

Bruce

Re: Two problems with emails being sent by our group

Those "completely out to lunch" episodes that have been so frequent on Yahoo since NEO never seem to happen on groups.io, thank you very much

Upon investigation, I've seldom found Groups.io to be the culprit but rather the holdup is typically down the line.

Not all emails necessarily take the same path. It depends on dynamic conditions? in the cloud.

They may route through different servers and each server may queue them dependent on load, etc.
Some email services, rr.com in particular is notorious for delaying messages and even sending "convenient" status messages to cover their butt when they throttle users.
AOL will also return a "server not responding when their own internal net link to the real internet overloads.

BUT... that list only showed 5 members: The member I just approved, the first member that signed up with the group before the transfer which was in February, 2018, myself and two moderators. So I followed the following sequence: 'Your Groups>(my group)>Admin>Members and the list shows the 978 members I expected to see, but not the new member I just approved.?
David -- I really doubt that this is a bug, or it would have been reported a long time ago.

You can change which members are displayed by pulling down the blue menu at upper left and selecting one of the other options (Members, Bouncing, Pending, Banned, etc).?

If you click on the link in a "needing approval" email it defaults to the Pending view.

Hope this helps,
