How Long Does a Transfer Take? Expedite? #transfer

TIA for your help. We have gone through the transfer and gotten to step 3. There are 609 ahead of us. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what kind of time frame that means? I know Groups is doing a fantastic job handling this huge influx and I am definitely not here to complain. I'm just looking for clarification - does 610 mean a week, a month? Longer? We are a non-profit and are trying to decide if we should pay the extra fee or not. Ty

Re: Migrating Yahoo Group Can't Invite [email protected] #transfer #yahoo #invitation

Yes - thanks Chris - that was exactly the problem. I realised about 20 seconds after I posted this!!

Thanks!

Re: Transferring recent messages which missed the automatic move window.

I did block posts to Yahoo, but only after it was clear that the transfer had taken place, which was about 4 days later.? So I did not want to block the Yahoo site as I didn't know in advance it would take as long as it did.? So what I am looking for is some way for me to somehow transfer the unmoved 13 messages.?

Perhaps it is not possible.

Re: Invite-to-membership time for Yahoo Group (in order to begin transfer)

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

As there is no existing transfer status I presume my invite either has gone astray or has not been made; my inability to post to two YGs (failure message from my provider saying they¡¯d continue trying) is not encouraging; I suspect that the invite may have just evaporated into the ether...
?
Thanks for the follow-up.

in the queue. [Step 3 of 4]." That number goes up about as often as it
goes down, due to people paying the $200 fee to expedite the transfer.
I'm considering doing that myself.

The "Expedite for $200" option was not available when I started the
transfers last week, but the button is now there for the subgroups as
well as the main group. Has anyone who is transferring subgroups along
with a main group successfully expedited the transfer(s) after the
process is under way? If so, can you tell if the subgroups got the
benefit of expediting the main group?

I can now answer my own question for the benefit of thers in the same situation. I paid the $200 to expedite the transfer of our main group and the transfer completed in just a few minutes. (The group was already in the last queue "awaiting import into Groups.io.)? The subgroups maintained their places in the queue, with 500 to 600 groups ahead of them in line. I submitted this question to [email protected] and Mark Fletcher responded, confirming that "The expedite fee only applies to a single transfer."

No, I think it stems from the difference between "full digest" and "plain digest", and it's not very obvious how to switch between them.
Apparently you have to go to "your subscriptions", tick the box for the group and then "select action"

Tomorrow I will see whether I succeeded...

The best course of action is unclear, as I can't recall anyone reporting this problem before.

You could try waiting until the transfers are done and then rename the groups. But that carries its own issues, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group? ?

And you can't just swap group names because names are frozen for a period of time before they can be reused...so you'd have to come up with new names.?

If you review the information on the referenced wiki page and the renaming option looks too problematical, I believe your only remaining option is to cancel the two affected transfers and start over from square one. Go back to the status page and look for a red button to that effect.

Good luck,
Bruce

Go to the Members list (Admin > Members), then select each members record, change their Posting Privileges to Override: Moderated, and click Save at the bottom.? If they're all on the same page in the Members list, use the checkbox next to their line, scroll to the bottom to the Actions box, select Change Moderation, select Override: Moderated form the list, and click Change at the bottom of the popup window.? It might be easier to use the second method, but it needs to be repeated for each page in the Members list. (Selections don't carry over when you change pages.)

You'll need to join the group with the email address you want to use (which will create a new GIO account if it doesn't have one.)? If you don't want the existing address on that group at all:? Change the new email address to Owner.? Make sure everything works.? Delete your current subscription.

Re: Old YH Group Mis-Mapped to Wrong Groups.IO New Group #transfer #howto

I think it is possible to cancel (or delete) a transfer before it
takes place. I don't know the details of the process, but I've seen
other messages from people talking about stopping their transfer and
then starting again. So you could cancel the transfer with the
incorrect settings and then start another transfer with the correct
information. There may be other ways to deal with this issue, but that
is one option that you might consider.

Yes.? The reason for the warning is that once the messages are made private, the can't be reverted to public.

Not sure what you mean by "Current owners have realized that they have made a huge mistake?"? If you are talking about Verizon?? They don't believe that they are making a mistake, they are protecting their company from litigation. Think of all the content that is sitting on Verizon's servers that they want gone before someone hits them with a fine in France or even here.? Yahoo was unregulated wild west free, and it had LOTS of content that would be subject to the CDA or the law in France.

Is it possible to archive multiple old Yahoo Groups into one group with each old YG as a Subgroup?

Hello,

I am a member of the Libertarian Party Historical Preservation Committee. Several Libertarian Party-related groups on Yahoo Groups are in danger of being erased forever. When I saw? Groups.io was transferring Yahoo Groups, I was excited.?

My question is, can we transfer multiple Yahoo Groups as subgroups (within one premium Groups.io) for purposes of archiving? We also want to be able to easily backup the messages. Some of these groups are inactive, but they are valuable for the organization's history.

I am less concerned with the files, which can easily be downloaded and preserved manually. My main concern is the messages.

Thanks for any help!

I have little doubt that emails are turning up at support@?? faster than anyone can read them, and until they have been read it is impossible for support to assess how "important" any given email might be. I would expect that Groups.io personnel would welcome the chance to get a good night's sleep in the middle of all this frantic activity to get Yahoo groups migrated.

I think we all have to cut support more than a little slack in the hope that everyone's needs (or perceived needs) are accommodated without Mark's or anyone else's health being adversely affected.

I in no way speak for either yahoo or io but it¡¯s been my impression for a couple of years now that Yahoo was doing everything it could to encourage folks to take their groups elsewhere.? If I¡¯d known about this opportunity, I¡¯d have made the switch long before it cost anything, let alone the $220 I paid.
?
Note that I don¡¯t begrudge .io the money.? It¡¯s just that had I known of it before, I could have been operating for a couple of years, instead of biting my fingernails waiting? for transfer? dot to accept my invitation...
?
Back to the story, I expect that Yahoo is very pleased at the exodus; in any event, they are ceasing services in a month or so, and today¡¯s the last date anyone can upload anything. That said, posts to two different YGs I made a couple of days ago have have not made it to those YGs...
