Re: message from Owner but with personal name

As to your earlier point I was still trying to understand the GIO history on why this hasn¡¯t been addressed in the 18 months since Chris raised it when this happened, .the only answer I can provide is that some suggestions catch Mark's eye fairly easily; others don't. In reality there seem to be a lot of perfectly valid suggestions that fall by the wayside. If and when the dust settles I'll try to raise it again on beta.Well, for some functions you will probably have to wait forever owed to the huge volume of inquiries. So as far my groups are concerned, I found a temporary solution by creating a new member with owner adress (email and alias). So, if I want an owner message without my personal name showing up, I log in with this new member?s address. My moderators were provided with the new address and password as well, so they can use it if it is indicated. Victoria |

Trouble with my group messages transfer
I setup and expedited a transfer of all our messages in our current Yahoo Group (no attachments, no photos, no members) over to Groups.io. I got an email saying ¡°messages¡± were transferred but when I went to the Group to which we specified everything be moved, there was zero old postings in there. Anyone else have this issue? What did I do wrong in my setup of either group or the transfer instructions that would prevent a single old Yahoo Group message from being ported over?

I have somewhere I can put it to the test but it won't be "now" coz I need my sleep. :)One night's sleep later... Perhaps you had tried it! I have done some tests elsewhere and these are the results: If the Special checkbox is ticked then the hashtag will appear in the list of hashtags available to all members but if one of them uses it the post will not be sent and they will receive a warning sign that the hashtag is for use by moderators only. However, if the Special checkbox and the Moderated checkbox are both ticked then all members can select it and use it in a post. Obviously the message in question is then presented to Moderators for moderation irrespective of the member's moderation status, i.e. even if they normally not moderated on this occasion they will be. If the moderator is happy that the message be sent as a Special Notice and approves the message then it will indeed be sent as a Special Notice.? It is worth noting that it is the Topic that is moderated, not just the initial post (i.e. the Special Notice) and that there is no unmissable warning to the moderator that the post will be sent as a special notice; whoever moderates the message may have to be on the look - out for messages sneaking through with Special Notice hashtags appended! Hope that helps... Chris |

For anyone following this thread, my issue was that my new laptop didn't have me in the memory on Yahoo yet, so asked me for my email. Access to the Yahoo groups as a manager requires using your yahoo mail login, which is whatever user name and password you'd chosen. Now that I'm back at my computer, Chrome remembered my details, and automatically filled the spaces, which logged me in. So, my next trick will be to discover how to mark the issue closed! Re: Locking/hiding group
y@es,
Is there some way of hiding a new Group from the public until afterNo. You can use the Visibility option to keep it out of the directory, but its home page would still be visible to anyone with the URL. You can make the messages private (members only), but not if you intend them to be public later. Re: October 28th
Dave,
If I read Yahoo's statement correctly, from next Monday nobody will beI wonder if that is the case. The help page uses the word "upload", but email postings are not usually referred to as "uploads". So I think there's a slim possibility that the Conversations section will continue to be updated by new postings, but that those postings can only be made by email. This means that for those groups currently in the transfer processIf indeed they stop updating Conversations on monday, then yes. Of course what actually happens on Monday with Yahoo is anybody'sExactly. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Fw: Data transfer - Yahoo to groups.io
Susan,
We want to start up with your service.Be aware that GMF is a user-to-user help group. There are no Groups.io employees reading this group. Without the owner/moderator of our Yahoo group we are unable to addYou are correct. As a moderator you would need the "Invite and add members" privilege to invite the transfer agent to your group. Also, you need the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" privilege to promote the transfer agent to moderator. But if the person who passed away was the only person with either the owner or moderator role, then I think you're stuck as far as using the Easy Group Transfer function is concerned. I'll concur with flonafrank's recommendation of PG Offline. I've used it to capture archives of the Messages, Files, Photos, and Links in the Yahoo Groups I own. Even the ones that I've already transferred to Groups.io (why not, disk space is cheap and messages don't take that much room). Once you have an archive of the content, even as a member, that preserves your options for the future. For example, it is possible for you to share a PG Offline archive among your board or even your members. They would need to download and run a copy of the program in order to read the archive, but they can do that using the Free trial, even once it has expired. Re: Yahoogroup challenge in migration
Skip,
Yahoo does not recognize (despite my ability to post to each of theIn Yahoo (unlike Groups.io) your subscription to a group might not be associated with any account, or may be associated with an account unrelated to that email address. Despite my ability to post to the three lists I have there (one ownedIf you are receiving messages from the one you own, open a recent message and examine its header (the full header). If it is a Gmail interface use the Show Original menu command; in other interfaces this function is sometimes called View Source. Scroll down in the header looking for a field that begins with: X-Yahoo-Profile: The parameter on that line is the Yahoo Profile associated with that subscription, and is what you need to enter into Yahoo's Sign In page. Never mind that it prompts you for an Email Address, that's a change that is newer than Yahoo Group's code. Enter exactly the profile found in the header. Alas, that field isn't present in messages sent to the group -owner address, you need a message posted to the group. and my ability to SEE those groups, I cannot log into Yahoo.By "see" I assume you mean that you can access each group's home page, but without logging in can't access the members-only content or owner controls. If, despite the above, you can't sign in to the named profile don't despair. As long as you can receive emails from the group there's a way to transfer your subscription to a new Yahoo account. Ask again if you need details on that. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

I think the reason it causes consternation is because short of the notice that pops up, there is confusion as to whether or not your invitations have all disappeared, Perhap an immediate email explaining the process and an estimated delay time would be an easy way to assuage moderator and owner doubts as to whether their invitations have disappeared permanently.Sending invitations is just one of many aspects of Yahoo Groups that has been unreliable for some time. If an invitation fails to go through, there is no way for groups.io to know that you've tried to send one, or simply changed your mind and decided not to use the Easy[?] Group Transfer process at all. It is up to you, the group owner, to actually check the status page and confirm that the invitation has been received. If so, it will say so in no uncertain terms in the boxed message at the top of the page. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948?for instructions on how to check status. Regards, Bruce |
