I would think that by merely wanting to join the group they would have
a child with a disability. If they didn't and wanted to still join the
group, could you trust them to answer honestly?

Just a thought. It's your group. There may be some legal reason you're
asking the question, so if you need to ask the question, then pursue
that.

But if it doesn't serve any useful purpose to keep people out based on
their honesty (or lack thereof) in their answer to that question, you
might be making it harder on yourself to moderate the group. I'm not
in your shoes, of course, so there may be other reasons for the
question also.

Following the same type of reasoning, we stopped requiring approval
for new members based only on what we could see--their email
addresses. We do moderate their first post, and if it doesn't seem
"right" in some way, we put them on moderation and wait and see if
they are not spammers or problem members. We can't tell by their email
what kind of person they are.

Doing that has saved a lot of work when we started a new group since
there has been an overwhelming number of people joining them with the
Yahoo thing that came up recently.

Transfers are queued up when you first set it up and processed in that order until you get to Step 5.?

At that point they are re-ordered based on when the transfer go-ahead is given and uploaded to groups.io in that order (unless you pay $200 for priority service).

When you click on the green "Set Up New Transfer" button at bottom left of the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), a new page will come up where you can enter the source and destination group names.?

There is also a series of checkboxes for the various areas of the group to transfer (files, photos, members, messages, etc). Simply uncheck the ones you don't want before clicking the "Start New Transfer Process" button.

If you've already started a transfer, return to the Yahoo groups transfer page (/yahootransfer), select the transfer you've already started from the "Existing Transfers" list (pull down the menu and click on its name). Actual transfer status for any ongoing transfer can be found in the status box at the top of the page.

Yes some groups seem to be getting through but I feel that our group has been ripped off!? As we are over in Australia there seems to be a problem with GroupsIO doing what it says it should.

Feeling totally peeved off with the whole thing.

Has anyone in Australia in the last week been able to get their group transferred as I would like to give someone a phone call to check what I have done is correct.

Asking potential participants an automatic question prior to adding to group?

Dr. Denver Fox

Asking potential participants an automatic question prior to adding to group?

Our group requires that all participants be parents of a child with a disability.? We also have a Facebook where we can ask them to answer a question - o.e., "Are you the parent of a child with a disability?" to which they answer Yes or No.

However, I can find no comparable question - or even required statement option in groups.io.? When we advertise our group.io list to the community, we have? been stating, "Please tell us if you are the parent of a child with a disability."? Yet, when they attempt to subscribe to groups.io, it seems they can't do that.

This means we must then recontact each potential participant, ask them that question, and wait for a response.? Taking time and energy.

Is there any way around this, or have I missed something?

Re: Incompatible Payment Status

Hello Art,
I had a similar problem when attempting to pay Groups.io to Upgrade three IO basic on 10/21 before the 0900 PDT price increase on 10/22.

I was able to pay for groups one and two of the three at $110 each but when I attempted to upgrade the third I got the 'card declined' message regardless of what card I used. My banks said both cards were in good order.

After posting here and getting feedback from other members I again contacted [email protected]
and Mark Fletcher replied in part:

--- Begin Quoted Excerpt ---

'I've added you and your credit card ---- to an allowed list. I don't know why Stripe was blocking you.'

--- End Quoted Excerpt ---

Upon receiving Marks message about the stripe.com allowed list/unblock I was immediately able to pay Groups.io to transfer my third group albeit at $220 instead of the $110 I could/should have been able to pay with my valid credit card(s) if for not the Groups.io wonky payment processor stripe.com .

Mind you this was one of the same cards successfully used to pay for one of my other groups and was subsequently? inexplicably declined. After Mark worked his magic the card was good as gold.

Stripe.com is likely who is blocking transactions such as mine and possibly yours due to their own obfuscated algorithm. You can read more about it here:

Stripe.com has no apparent way for us to contact them, only 'their' customers like Groups.io can do that.

I suspect faceless stripe.com algorithm took umbrage that I was trying to pay groups.io more than once the same amount with the same card in a short period of time and locked my cards on their own without contacting my banks.

In my case, neither bank saw any block to a charge from Groups.io (or stripe.com) whatsoever, only the charges from Groups.io for group one on my first card and the charge from Groups.io for group two on my second card.

They saw no rejection of any kind on either card when I was 'declined' when attempting to pay for my third group in the day/hours before the 10/22 0900 PDT price increase.

Therefore I believe Stripe.com locked the card I used to pay for my first group when I tried to use it to pay for my second. When I tried to use the second card to pay for the second group to pay for the third it too was locked out.

I tried to submit payment for my third group several times overnight 10/21 in to 10/22 using both cards right up until 0900 PDT 10/22 when the price for the third group automatically doubled from $110 to $220.

I wrote Mark thanking him for 'unblocking' my card and stated that I was unhappy having to pay $220 when I was well within the window to pay $110 had it not been for my trying to pay for too many Group.io Premium upgrades using stripe.com
?
As I already had two groups in the migration pipeline I asked Mark to use the 'extra' $110 of the $220 I paid on my third group due to the stripe.com debacle to help support his efforts to save our groups or buy some food for the kittys at his local animal shelter ^..^

I remain concerned that I now have all three groups in the migration channel two with a supposed $110 renewal and the third with a purported $220 renewal.

However beyond my initial 'thank you' and follow-up e-mail commentary to Mark via [email protected] I think its best to I wait until the dust from the Yahoo Verizon mess settles before contacting him again.

Perhaps one day Groups.io will offer us an alternative payment method to stripe.com. I realize that Mark doesn't?? participate on the GMF group and only hope this message helps others understand their own IO payment issues.

Please remember what Yahoo/Verizon has put us through when you are offered any Verizon brand product.

Thanks for reading,

Charlie

Called CB fraud dept (as this is a common problem with CB and web purchases).

Re: Files allowed in group Files section

I'd like to know also since I was unable to upload an HTML file that
was a spreadsheet and out of many files, it was the only one rejected.
Do they not allow HTML file uploads?

I just gave up on it after renaming it, uploading it, then renaming it
on GIO and it wouldn't load. I think GIO still thought it was a PDF
file (what I renamed the HTML file to) even though I had renamed it on
GIO.
