I created a FREE? Groups.io? and asked some of my Yahoo Group members to try it out.? ?Now we want to execute the transfer, so I need to upgrade to Premium.? ?
HOW DO I DO THAT?? ?I would have expected a button somewhere that says upgrade. OR DO I NEED TO DELETE THE GROUP I CREATED AND STARTED ANOTHER ONE AS PREMIUM? |

Re: Notice of Pricing Change
Duane,
How do you understand this part: 3. All new basic (non-premium) groups are required to be premium groups if they have, or acquire, more than 500 members or more than 3 subgroups. (Basic groups in existence before October 22 at 9AM remain unlimited for now; however, next year we will be looking at readjusting our pricing structure and moving away from a flat rate fee and towards a more equitable per-member cost. We will keep you posted about all of this as we work through the process.)Does this mean that free groups are going to be eliminated? Or does it mean that IF you are required to be a premium group (> 500 members / 3 subgroups), then the fee is going to an adjusted per-member rate rather than a flat fee for all group sizes and types? Thanks, Su |
Group transfer
#yahoo
Another question on group transfers. I am the owner of a group that transferred from Yahoo to Google groups a couple of years ago but kept the Yahoo for the archives. The membership is no longer the same. So I don't want to transfer over the members but I do want to bring over the archives to save them.
We're also not yet ready to move the current lists from G-groups over to Groups.io and I don't want to create a lot of confusion with the automatic emails that members will receive if I do add them here. I will be adding a core group of members now but most will be added later. What happens to the ownership of the archived messages if I request a transfer WITHOUT transfer of the members? Will they still show the original posters, even if those originals don't "own" the posts any more? And does it matter? I did just upgrade the group to Premium after seeing Bruce's post about that this afternoon. Thanks for that! Thanks, Su |

Re: How to create a new member sign up questionnaire
One thing I really liked in Yahoo was the simple form that let people tell me why they want to join. This was built into the join request. Ibwould like to see tgat here. I do not need a questionnaire. I have 4 genealogy groups. I want to know how the prospective member is related to whatever ancestors we are researching.? My group description asks them they need to give their name and their connection to the family before being approved. At Yahoo that was easy. Because there is a box for tge applicant to add info. I rarely had to do a follow up email!

You are not the only one completely frustrated with lack of progress on a transfer.

I am trying to do a second transfer for the Yahoo photos only. I have followed all the steps in the instructions including making "transfer.io" a moderator in Yahoo. I have deleted the notice to a previous completed transfer. When I try my latest transfer NOTHING! No advice of any type is received. Notice of Pricing Change
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhy are they literally springing this overnight fee change on people. They surely knew before this afternoon. I am helping a group with an absentee owner and have to ask Yahoo to make one of us a moderator so we can issue an invite! There is NO time to get that done! We are going to lose our group over this, I¡¯m afraid. Several people offered to donate toward the $110 but we haven¡¯t done anything toward collecting the donations because we wanted to give the owner a chance to respond. If I pay the $110 myself just to get it done, I will lose that money if we can¡¯t send an invite to the transfer agent.?By Dec. 14 all this craziness of streams of applicants will go away. Yet, the high transfer fee apparently will stay on - I guess to discourage new applicants, especially small groups, from applying. And then, they are going to do what some other sites do - make you pay per member to continue (or so they imply). That is going to sink the other group, where I am one of the owners, ?with 4000 members we just paid $110 to transfer. There are only 2 people in charge - and neither of us can afford to pay for members. Nor are we able to turn this into a pay to play group. We just don¡¯t have the time, energy or know-how to run this like a business. We are volunteers, we spend hours and hours helping members. We also work and have families with caregiving needs. We are stretched thin as it is, without even considering all these payment possibilities to add to the load. Yahoo at least made it possible for us to exist.? This is going to price ?beyond the means of people who don¡¯t have a lot of money if fees keep on being added as described below. We have about 1300 members in the absentee owner group and no way to know if many of the old members are still reading. From the responses I got from old members in the last few days, I would say yes. So I would be very hesitant to delete memberships if I was able to. Yahoo, with all its problems and glitches, allowed us to exist. Doesn¡¯t anyone care about us? I think this was a snap decision with little thought of the ramifications for the very real people, especially health groups, that it will affect. I hope Mark will reconsider when he has time to really think about the effect on people. Susan B ?(this is not the group I have been talking about in previous messages). We are flattered by this recognition, and have been overwhelmed with traffic and group transfer requests as a result. We have spent the days since Yahoo's announcement diligently adding new server capacity and starting to work through an unprecedented number of transfer requests. Fortunately, has always been built to scale and already has a user base in excess of 1 million users today. In order to accommodate this major growth phase while maintaining our excellent service levels and industry-leading functionality, we will need to adjust our pricing as follows. As of 9AM Pacific Time, October 22:
As you know, Yahoo has given us incredibly short deadlines. New content cannot be uploaded to Yahoo Groups after October 28 and all user generated content will be deleted from Yahoo Groups on December 14. To ensure that we have enough time to export all data off of Yahoo, we have set a deadline of midnight, December 1 Pacific Time for all new transfer requests to be received. Assuming that Yahoo doesn¡¯t have any server issues, we believe that we¡¯ll be able to export all data out of Yahoo before they delete all the data. However, in order to maintain a high level of service to our existing customers, we cannot import groups into our service as fast as we can export them out of Yahoo. There may be some delay before we can import all groups. If you wish to have your transfer prioritized, the group transfer page allows you to pay an additional one-time fee of $200 (this will go live at 9AM Pacific Time, October 22). We welcome the opportunity to elevate the groups email experience for Yahoo users. We are committed to making the migration process as seamless as possible. Thank you for choosing . Thanks, Mark |
Members Waiting for Transfer-Long Wait?
1. I plan to transfer ma group from Yahoo mainly to get the message board transferred.
2. My members are waiting to be transferred also. If some are allowed to join before the transfer, will the transfer skip them? I want their identiy transfered with the messages they sent and their files, but we are stymied as a group, since we are not doing much at Yahoo until the transfer. 3. If it is a long wait after we request a transfer, they will be very impatient, I do not want to lose members over this fiasco with Yahoo Groups shutting down. 4. I read in one of these forums that the members need to be transferred at the same time as their messages files and photos, or everything transferred will be attributed to the group owner. Still, if I can invite a few of the active members they could help me upload files that were in Attachments at Yahoo. But they should still be identified with their uploads and messages. Can you help me sort out this dilemma? Janis |
Re: HOW TO CHECK TRANSFER STATUS (was: transfer problem)
I have paid the fees, invited transfer to my list, and received a message that popped up on my list here on io groups that my list is ready to go but transfer has not joined my list yet so I cannot make him a moderator. It has been 4-5 days now. Susan You sent the invite. Did the status on the screen change to 'we've received the invite, when respond to it and become a member, make it a moderator' or words to that effect. Due to the workload, and this is a manual step for groups.io, I've seen it go from 1-12 hours to over a day lately. If you don't see the "we received the invite", which I think is automated like I saw it within an hour or so, then suspect a typo on the invite. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |
Re: PREMIUM GROUP PRICE TO INCREASE TOMORROW!!
If you can make them subgroups of a single main coregroup then no, you only pay once for the core group. Otherwise yes the $$$ is per core group
?
However you absolutely need to set up that structure in advance of the price change deadline of you have more than 3 subgroups otherwise you will have to continue paying once the initial year has expired.
