One thing I really liked in Yahoo was the simple form that let people tell me why they want to join. This was built into the join request. Ibwould like to see tgat here. I do not need a questionnaire. I have 4 genealogy groups. I want to know how the prospective member is related to whatever ancestors we are researching.? My group description asks them they need to give their name and their connection to the family before being approved. At Yahoo that was easy. Because there is a box for tge applicant to add info. I rarely had to do a follow up email!

I am trying to do a second transfer for the Yahoo photos only. I have followed all the steps in the instructions including making "transfer.io" a moderator in Yahoo. I have deleted the notice to a previous completed transfer. When I try my latest transfer NOTHING! No advice of any type is received. I am helping a group with an absentee owner and have to ask Yahoo to make one of us a moderator so we can issue an invite! There is NO time to get that done! We are going to lose our group over this, I¡¯m afraid. Several people offered to donate toward the $110 but we haven¡¯t done anything toward collecting the donations because we wanted to give the owner a chance to respond. If I pay the $110 myself just to get it done, I will lose that money if we can¡¯t send an invite to the transfer agent.?By Dec. 14 all this craziness of streams of applicants will go away. Yet, the high transfer fee apparently will stay on - I guess to discourage new applicants, especially small groups, from applying. And then, they are going to do what some other sites do - make you pay per member to continue (or so they imply). That is going to sink the other group, where I am one of the owners, ?with 4000 members we just paid $110 to transfer. There are only 2 people in charge - and neither of us can afford to pay for members. Nor are we able to turn this into a pay to play group. We just don¡¯t have the time, energy or know-how to run this like a business. We are volunteers, we spend hours and hours helping members. We also work and have families with caregiving needs. We are stretched thin as it is, without even considering all these payment possibilities to add to the load. Yahoo at least made it possible for us to exist.? This is going to price ?beyond the means of people who don¡¯t have a lot of money if fees keep on being added as described below. We have about 1300 members in the absentee owner group and no way to know if many of the old members are still reading. From the responses I got from old members in the last few days, I would say yes. So I would be very hesitant to delete memberships if I was able to. Yahoo, with all its problems and glitches, allowed us to exist. Doesn¡¯t anyone care about us? I think this was a snap decision with little thought of the ramifications for the very real people, especially health groups, that it will affect. There may be some delay before we can import all groups. Members Waiting for Transfer-Long Wait?
1. I plan to transfer ma group from Yahoo mainly to get the message board transferred.
2. My members are waiting to be transferred also. If some are allowed to join before the transfer, will the transfer skip them? I want their identiy transfered with the messages they sent and their files, but we are stymied as a group, since we are not doing much at Yahoo until the transfer. 3. If it is a long wait after we request a transfer, they will be very impatient, I do not want to lose members over this fiasco with Yahoo Groups shutting down. 4. I read in one of these forums that the members need to be transferred at the same time as their messages files and photos, or everything transferred will be attributed to the group owner. Still, if I can invite a few of the active members they could help me upload files that were in Attachments at Yahoo. But they should still be identified with their uploads and messages. Can you help me sort out this dilemma? Janis |

We've been looking at groups.io and thinking hard about transferring our Yahoo group to Google groups.? We really don't need all the stuff at groups.io and there doesn't seem to be a fee to go to Google groups.? Are we understanding things correctly? Michael
