Debbie -- As you have discovered, you cannot search the groups list for keywords and use the tabs at left to further filter the resulting hits. The two functions are mutually exclusive.

This would be a good suggestion for improvement. The official "suggestion box" for groups.io is the beta group (). I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon, though.

How can I sort the results of a search of a certain interest? I'd like to sort with newest first. When clicking on newest first after getting my search results, it defaults back to the whole list of groups.

The only thing is the Groupsio transfer member was install about 9 months ago into our group and has the moderator rights.

Chris -- I think it's unrealistic to expect the transfer queue to hold your invitation for that long of a time period. Depending on what the status of the transfer currently is, you may have to delete that subscription to your Yahoo group and send a new invitation.

What else can I do as I feel our model railway club has been suckered in!

In this message (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19896) I gave you instructions on how to check your status and asked you to report back on what it says. Cutting and and pasting the words into a message will work, a screenshot would be even better.

Until you follow up on that recommendation, I will remain unable to help you.

On the group in question if you look at Topics view (web UI obviously) at the top of the tabs on the left hand side there is a Home tab. To its immediate right (within the tab) there should be a white on blue "label" that tells you if you are an owner or a moderator.

What is there on your group? If it says Owner then you have billing permission by default; if it says Mod then you are indeed a moderator but may not have billing permissions; several permissions are individually settable per moderator.

That's unfortunate, for sure.

I can't delete the merged group and re-request a new set of transfers because it says the name won't be available for "a while". Do I ask GIO to delete all the data in that group and initiate those two transfers again?
You could always ask, but it might be quicker to delete the content yourself. Unfortunately, there is no function that deletes all content and leaves the group in place.

Or if you have deep pockets, open a third group on Premium Yearly and save this one for some other purpose.

Do I see if they still have to separate files that can be uploaded to each respective group?
Again, you can ask, but under the circumstances I doubt you will get a response.?

Do I put in a new request for the one to go to the correct new group (which is still empty)?
If that group is already set up and on the Premium Yearly plan, then yes...I would go ahead and get that started, and clean up the mess in the other one later.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: HOW TO CHECK TRANSFER STATUS (was: transfer problem)

I initiated 4 group transfers last night after I saw that the price would be changing today (it would be so helpful if there was a non-profit rate beyond the enterprise account, which I still don¡¯t understand the difference).? I did not get a message that the invite was received nor did I receive receipts for the 4 charges.? I have done this before so I am fairly certain I did this correctly. That said, if the easy group transfer page shows that I do have 4 groups pending, how can I confirm the invites were received from yahoogroups since there is never anything at yahoogroups stating that the invitations were sent/received?

And, sorry to ask again but I cannot find the email that answered this, may I just move messages and not the members?

Thanks,
Margery

You have to be a group Owner, or a Moderator with the "Billing" privilege.

?I was supposed to be a co-owner/co-administrator but don't see the informatoin you describe and I can't figure out how to do the upgrade by 9AM pacific.
If you have the above privileges it will show on the left-side menu bar as Admin>Upgrade. Then click the "View/Change Plan" button on the resulting page.

There is a big red box at the very top of the transfer page (/yahootransfer) explaining this.

Re: HOW TO CHECK TRANSFER STATUS (was: transfer problem)

Linda J and other,

I think one of the problems people may be having is with the terms. In step
2, you start the transfer process. This tells groups.io that you are wanting
to do a transfer. Then you do the invite from Yahoo Groups. Then they join
the group on Yahoo. You promote them to moderator. The next step is 'Begin'
the transfer itself.

It is the terms, it sounds like the concept of start or begin are used twice
in the sequence. The first time you are 'starting the transfer process' but
the second time, step 6, you 'starting the transfer'. Subtle difference, but
I think many users are hanging up on the steps.

Transfer accidentally merged two groups into one #transfer

I have two groups on YG (many more, but two involved here). During the transfer request, apparently the destination was not changed. I'm fine admitting it may have been my mistake.

I caught this on the first transfer (from the one group to the wrong new one) and immediately replied to GIO support that there was a problem and requested that they not transfer the second one (and asked if they can move the first to the correct group). Well that message never got read before they transferred the second one and merged it.

Long question short... where do I go from here?

I can't delete the merged group and re-request a new set of transfers because it says the name won't be available for "a while". Do I ask GIO to delete all the data in that group and initiate those two transfers again? Do I see if they still have to separate files that can be uploaded to each respective group?

Do I put in a new request for the one to go to the correct new group (which is still empty)?

Right now I don't want to do anything without guidance, but I also don't want to lose the data because I waited too long.

What do I do?

pay now, transfer later?

I read here tonight in a message from Duane that I can pay for the upgrade to premium for a basic group and initiate the request for transfer at another time. Is there a deadline for requesting the transfer? Am I understanding this correctly? This is for a Yahoo group with an absentee owner (not for the group I was talking about in a message I just sent a few minutes ago). I have to beg Yahoo to make me a moderator in the absentee owner group before I can ask here for the transfer to happen. I have no idea what it will take to reach Yahoo by phone or if they will grant my request. So I may lose my money. But I at least want to try because there are old messages in there that are extremely valuable to the members and are important to move here if at all possible.

I will pay the premium before we hit today¡¯s deadline for the higher price if someone can respond in time.

Thank you
Susan B

Is it too late for us to make a subgroup?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The transfer agent has shown up in our group as a member. When I set the group up on , I did not include any subgroups. But I should have. We have a ¡°sister¡± yahoo group that we created years ago, when Yahoo only gave a group 100mb of space. It holds only files and photos we could not fit in our main group.

I didn¡¯t know what to do about it so I created a basic free forum for it here, with the idea that I would manually download about 30 files and about 150 photos and upload them to the basic free forum.?

Since then, I believe I have read here in GMF that I could have made the files and photos sister group a sub-group under our main group. I think it would be much better for us to have everything in one place (group). Is it too late to do that now that the transfer agent has shown up as a member in the main group? I have not made the agent a moderator yet and I haven¡¯t clicked any buttons to tell it to go ahead with the transfer.

Thank you
Susan B

To negate any problem arising from this happening one of our Yahoo Moderators has joined his personal website mailbox to the Yahoo Group so that it will receive all emails, it will also cover in case Yahoo stop archiving messages after the 28th Oct

Chris -- Did you ever click on the "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button?

To check status, go back to the transfer page?/yahootransfer and select (click on) the group name from the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right. What does it say at the top of the resulting page??

And if you haven't clicked the button yet, this is where you do it.

Re: A few questions about the yahoo change

Mine too, but as of a few minutes ago, transfer is still not a member. My transfer status was accepted and they are ready to proceed but I cannot make transfer a moderator if he is not a member. <grin>
Hoping for better results tomorrow.

Susan,

The first time I tried to invite to join my YG I had the same issue. Long story short, I believe the problem was a typo on my part. I may well have sent the first invite to groups.i.o. (note the extra period). I suspected, and Don strongly suggested, that if the transfer status bar on the page didn't acknowledge receipt of my invitation then they probably didn't get it. So, I sent a second invitation, taking extra care with the address, and the transfer status bar on the .io page very quickly changed to a confirmation that my invitation had been received.?
