Re: Yahoo Transfers: can we exclude all members from being rolled over and let that happen manually?

Ken,

The options seem to be:
1) Keep two accounts in Group.io
2) Delete one or the other account in Group.io
3) Merge the account with the old address into the the account with the new address.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts
(bottom section)

I see the logic of preserving all the Yahoo member IDs to track the
threads/rights to the files.
The merge option does that as well.

Re: Yahoo Transfers: can we exclude all members from being rolled over and let that happen manually?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

That all makes sense. Thanks for answering the question so quickly. I guess the problem we¡¯ll have is that since we¡¯ve manually created new user accounts using different emails from the Yahoo group, we will have duplication of members with both their Yahoo membership and their new membership. I imagine we have to let the members individually decide what to do about that. The options seem to be:
1) Keep two accounts in
2) Delete one or the other account in

I see the logic of preserving all the Yahoo member IDs to track the threads/rights to the files.

Thanks!

You can, but it's not recommended if you have files and/or photos.? Without the member information, ownership of all items goes to the group owner.? There IS a way to assign ownership of photos after the fact, but not files.? All of that type of information (and a lot more) is included in?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home

The subgroups are the reason for the subdomain format.

You can easily change "main" to a name of your choosing. That's right at the top of your group's Settings page.

But you can't eliminate the part to the right of the @ without eliminating the subgroups. It is that part that ties the primary group and the subgroups together.

Re: Detailed Instructions on How to Conduct a Yahoo Transfer

Hi Bruce,

Thank you so much, Bruce, that is awesome instructions.
I will be patient now :)

Folks -- I am going to revamp and repost this old message, because the Yahoo transfer page just doesn't have the level of detail that a lot of folks appear to need.

My apologies if you have seen much of this before.

Regards,
Bruce

Here is the process. It is not automated and will take several days. Do not do anything out of order.

  1. Go here:?/
  2. At the bottom of the page, you'll find a link that says "Easy Group Transfer." Click it.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the subsequent page and click on the big blue button labelled "Yahoo Group Instructions."
  4. You should be at?/yahootransfer. Read the instructions carefully, including all the Notes. Bookmark this page, too. You will come back here several times.
  5. Create your groups.io group and configure it according to your needs. Help with group settings can be found here:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation [NOTE: Each new group must be reviewed to confirm that it meets the Groups.io Terms of Service. This alone could take up to a day.]?
  6. To use the Easy Group Transfer, you must upgrade the group to the Premium Yearly plan.?You can downgrade to the Basic plan later (i.e.: a year from now), if you want.
To do so, select Admin>Upgrade from the left-side menu bar and click on the blue "View/Change Plan" button. Select "Premium Yearly" (one-time cost of $110) and make your non-refundable payment.?
(You have now completed Step 1 of the instructions)

  7. Return to the bookmarked page (/yahootransfer). Click on the big green button at the bottom that says "Set Up New Transfer."
  8. Enter the name of your Yahoo group and the name of your groups.io group in their respective boxes. Do NOT enter any domain information (i.e.:?leave off[email protected] or @yahoogroups.co.uk), just the group names.
  9. Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page.?
(You have now completed Step 2 of the instructions)

  10. Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]." If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??
  11. Return to the bookmarked page?(/yahootransfer) once again. Select the group you are transferring from the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right (pull down the menu and click on the group name). A new page will come up, with?a status box at the top. If all is well, it should say something like: "We have received your invitation and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invite." If it doesn't say that, the invitation did not go through. Go back to Step 10 above and try again.?
(You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions)

  12. BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).?
  13. BE EVEN MORE PATIENT.?Do not send additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up.
  14. You will eventually receive an email stating that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted.?
(You have now completed Step 4 of the instructions)

  15. Return to your YAHOO GROUP and log in. Find the "[email protected]" member record and promote it to a Moderator. Instructions for this can be found at?.
  16. Return to the groups.io page that you bookmarked in #4 above one more time. Pull down the menu at bottom right and select the group you're ready to transfer. On the resulting page, click the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button at bottom right.?
(You have now completed Step 5 of the instructions)

  17. BE PATIENT AGAIN. The ability to actually do the transfer depends on how well Yahoo's servers are operating. We all know what that means, right?
  18. You may notice some activity in your new groups.io group, which probably reflects partial completion of the process. Do not panic. This is what you wanted to happen!
  19. When the transfer is done, you will receive an email from groups.io summarizing what it was able to transfer. It will also list whatever things it was?NOT?able to transfer. Until this email is received, you aren't done yet.
  20. Rejoice.
Most of us have "been there" with this process before and it all sounds easy in hindsight. Ironically, the same thing that's causing most people to abandon Y!G (server downtime) is exactly the same thing most likely to get in the way of completing the transfer process.?The best time to initiate a transfer is when Yahoo is performing well.?If you procrastinate until things are crashing and burning, delays, incomplete transfers, and other such frustrations can be expected.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Calendar
Click on "+Add Event"
(fill in "Event Name")
Make selections for the first occurrence of the Event in the "Date and Time" section
In the "Repeats" section:
Check the "Event Repeats" box
Select "Monthly" in the "Repeats" dropdown menu (below the "Event Repeats" box)
Select "2" in the "Repeat Every" dropdown menu
Choose either: "Repeat by day of the week" or "Repeat by day of the month"
(Make "Starts On" and "Ends" selections)
The "Repeat Summary" will say either:
Every 2 months on the <1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th> <name of Day of Week>
Every 2 months on day <number of day of month>
Important, finish setting up the event:
Fill in "Event Information" section
Set up Reminder notices in the "Reminders" section

MOST IMPORTANT at the bottom of page:
Click on "+Add Event", or "+Add Event & Invite Group" to send out an immediate announcement.

Also an event for the last Tuesday of the month (some months have 4 some have 5)
Groups.io currently doesn't recognize that there are 29 or 30 dates every year that are a 'fifth <day of the week>

I brought that up 2018.06.25

It was also brought up that some events' date are calculated as being x days before or after another date.
e.g. Federal Election Day in the United States is the Tuesday following the first Monday in November in even years
(1st Monday of November plus 6 days, repeats every 24 months)
(Some States also hold elections on that date every year, or every other but on odd years.)
2018.08.06

Unfortunately Groups.io hasn't fixed these oversights yet.
Maybe next year, after the great YahooGroups migration is over.... ;-}

I may be mistaken, but I believe you can use it for a week or two as a trial before you have to register it. If you can convert it to a different format, that may be enough to do what you need without cost.

If you are to move only member email addresses, it can be done by downloading to Excel file and the copying the address column and uploading it. No need for any programs.

Re: Help with transfer of an "orphaned" Yahoo group #pgoffline

Hi Jim,

Thanks! You have summed up my problem 100% accurately. I had failed to mention that I had invited [email protected] to become a member of the Yahoo group in question. Mark accepted the invitation, but now I am "stuck" because I cannot reach PA3DUV. He does not answer my e-mails, nor has he reacted to Yahoo's warnings.

The best I can hope for is to capture the old messages, files and photos an place the in the Files and Photos sections of the new groups.io icom2kl group, but the members will not be transferred. There is a program "PGOffline" which will do this, but I have to buy the full version.

I just downloaded using PG4. Took a look at the database. I would like to know if anyone was successful in uploading the messages to GIO. To me $110 well worth the deal to get it done turnkey.
