Larry -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Re: [YGOG] Instructions on how to transfer memberlist< maybe this will help> Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2019 23:28:44 -0700 From: Larry McDavid <lmcdavid@...> To: yahoo_group_of_groups@... I have not yet done this myself but I believe I understand how to do it. You did the correct thing by using the Yahoo Groups Export members in CVS. Note that only Owners and Moderators can do this. Now, take that saved file and import it into Excel. The file will have a csv file extension in the file name. Use the Excel Open function and first change the File Type to All Files. Find the membership.csv file where you saved it, select that file name and Open it in Excel. That will open a new worksheet and enter all the columns and rows you exported from Yahoo. For clarity, widen the columns so you can see all the complete email addresses. That will get you a worksheet with multiple columns, one for each data field and a row for each member. Select (highlight) the *data* in the email address column and Copy it to the clipboard. Don't copy the column header if there is one. Open Notepad, or some other text-only editor, and paste in the copied column. You might need to manually format it so that each email address is on just one line. Save that Notepad file. This will ensure there are no formatting characters in the saved file, which will be a .txt file. Highlight the entire document now consisting of only email addresses and Save it to the clipboard. I believe you can paste that into the Invite box of your Group at groups.io. I'm not sure of the maximum number of invites you can have per day at groups.io so it may be necessary to break up the saved Notepad file into smaller separate files to meet the groups.io limitation. I have successfully done all this except actually pasting the copied Notepad data into the groups.io invite form. Gosh, I hope this is all correct! I believe it is... How do I totally disable the use of hashtags? You can't totally disable them.? There are some used by the system for the Calendar (and other things).? As long as you don't create any hashtags, none can be used.? One item that may cause problems for people is if they happen to use the octothorpe in a subject line, such as "Test #23".? You can get around that by leaving a space "Test # 23". As another option, you could create all the system tags and set their properties to Moderated.? That way they should end up in the pending queue and you could remove the hashtag before it's posted.? Re: DYGM AutoIt scripts (was: Yahoo transfer #transfer)
I just realised that I did not mention these three points:
1. Yahoogroups will munge e-mail addresses to e.g. yourname@..., so you won't be able to see the domains, even if you're the group owner. 2. The process breaks threading (and for some reason tells e.g. Thunderbird that some messages are part of a thread when they're not). 3. AFAIK attachments don't get included. |

I am on a committee n the process of investigating transferring a couple of nonprofit groups over to groups.io from Y!G.? I'm doing prelim set-up and testing but am not super tech-savvy.? Before I set up a groups.io account, I thought I read somewhere in the list of available premium membership features, that there was a way to make or receive donations.? At least that's what I thought it was saying, however now that I have an account I can't find that particular list of features.? ?It's not a feature that Y!G has - or at least not in the free version that we've been using, but I thought that would be a definite plus for upgrading to premium.? Please advise.? Thank you.

You could transfer the parent group from one YG!, then transfer the other YG!s into subgroups under the same paid plan.??? The charge is for each parent group and isn't applied to any subgroups.? There are many things to consider when using subgroups. As has been mentioned before, you could use one of the available methods to download the messages yourself, then create a PDF from that to load into the Files area.? Not a great option, but costs nothing.? The biggest concern would be how much space the file(s) would take toward the storage limit. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAssuming you want to transfer over from YG, everything you had there except attachments. The success of the transfer depends on how stable YG is, and right now it seems Y is unstable at times. I transferred my group January 2018, and I had my new group up and running in about three days. ? Don |
Re: $110 transfer question about attachments.
Attachments don't get transferred.
Groups.io can transfer message archives (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining ownership of each message and other group content. Source:? /yahootransfer Subgroups - no dashboard that I know of.
