Weird Behavior when Viewing Members Info - email flashes on the screen, then is replace with mine
I know this sounds odd, but here's' what's happening.? I go to Admin - Members to view all members.? I click on one member (any of them), their email flashes on the screen briefly, then is replaced by mine.?? If I click save, it tries to save my email address, and I get a message that it's already in use. I was just getting ready to get all our members subscribed, but I'd like to wait until I have a resolution to this.? Anyone else experienced this? Cindy |

Owner Contact Email
#groupowner
Hello,
Two emails have been sent to the address to directly contact the group owner (me) but I never received either of them at my personal email address (gmail).? They do show up in the Activity area.? However only the sender's email and subject line are there, so I can't read them there.? Please don't tell me only group members can send emails to this owner address, because I am hoping that non-members who have questions about the group can contact me that way.? Help please, thanks Jessica |

Generally speaking, I try to avoid changing group settings to address issues being experienced by a single subscriber. Are you certain he's using Full Featured Digest rather than Plain Digest?Plain Digests are disabled for our group. He sent me an example, and I also checked his subscription record. Because the Full Featured Digest has a third link with each message, "View/Reply Online", which would allow him to form a Private ("Reply to Sender") reply via your group's pages.Private messages cannot be sent via the web site unless I enable it. In any event, he doesn't want to have to open a browser on those occasions that he wants to send a private message. He just wants any kind of access to the sender's email address, and under normal circumstances the From: link should?be providing that. No remedy required. TBird works perfectly in this regard.I suspected as much. This subscriber is a college professor. It seems his provider (a .edu domain) is using some aggressive link management. It also inserts a red banner stating that "this came from an external source so be careful about clicking links" or something to that effect. I suspect something is comparing the From: and Reply-To: fields in the header and stripping the former links if they don't match.? He's also subsequently reported that one of the links to an emailed group attachment was not clickable...so that had to have been stripped, too.? There's nothing I can do to address the latter problem, but to circumvent his "sender email address access" issues, I've relented...and enabled the Reply to Sender option for the entire group. Time will tell if I regret that decision...if it even works. Regards, Bruce |

Bruce,

But it also has no message content (just topic subject lines), so one might think he'd be complaining about more than just links being "stripped". Even if he's receiving a Plain Digest, TBird will linkify the From address in each message of the Digest, or he could copy/paste it. TBird also linkifies the "View This Message" link at the bottom of each message in the Plain Digest, so he could click that and reply that way. I don't think there are any TBird options that would interfere with his use of links in either Plain or Full Featured digests. Some links stripped from Full Digest
I have always been able to click on the name in the From: address of each message in an html digest to send a private reply (this despite the fact that the group is set to "reply to group").?A subscriber recently approached me with evidence that this particular link is being stripped from his own emails, although the footer links are intact. He has no way to send private replies to anyone, except to abandon digest mode and switch to individual emails. This person is using Thunderbird, but it's possible that an intermediate mail server is doing it. He is sending from a .edu domain. Can any TBird power users out there provide a setting or other remedy? I know I can change the group settings to put the desired option in the footer, but I'd prefer to address the problem at the source.? Thanks, Bruce |
Re: Pending members not being admitted into forum
Amy,
1. I don't understand why certain members have to be ¡°approved" toAs Frances said, if they didn't accept the invitation and instead requested to join your group, then they will need approval. Same if they requested to join using a different email address than the one you invited. In Groups.io every subscribed email address has a separate account and is treated as if a different person. 2. Though I am approving the potential member right away, theThis sounds like a confusion of email addresses on their part. That is, they tried to join using a different email address than the one you approved. 3. When I attempt to "approve" them again, it doesn't matter. Nor willRejecting the pending member and starting over is probably piling confusion on confusion. You need to determine what is actually happening with each individual email address. The Sent Invitations tab of the Invite page will tell you which addresses you've sent invitations to, and of those which have accepted the invitation. The Pending Approval view of the Members page will tell you which addresses have requested membership on their own (not replying to an Invitation), but have not yet been approved or rejected. The Members view of the Members page will tell you which addresses have become members, by either route (invite or request). Pay attention to the badges next to the email addresses, especially NC which flags those who've not yet confirmed their email address. That is distinct from a pending or bouncing member, but has the same effect of preventing them from receiving emails from the group. You can use the search box on the Activity page to find the history of any given email address. Leave Actions set to All actions, and Date set to Any, then click Search. Nowhere can I find a list of members who are "approved" or "pending"Those are two separate lists, both on the Members page. There's a blue button above the list that selects whether you are viewing Members (approved or accepted an invitation), Pending Approvals, Bouncing, or Banned. Don't be confused by the Pending page - that is a list of messages that await moderator approval. It has nothing to do with whether the sending address' membership is pending or approved. What do I need to set on that account so that I can view and answer list messages from my main account? It sounds like you are subscribed to the subgroup using a different email address (your "personal account") than the one you use to moderate (your "main account"). From the perspective of?receiving?messages, one email address = one account. There is no account setting that will permit you to reroute messages from one email address to another. The simplest way to deal with this is to cancel your existing subscription to the subgroup and re-subscribe using the email address associated with your "main account." This can be done online, or via the "Group Email Addresses" found on the subgroup home page (https://MAINGROUPNAME.groups.io/g/SUBGROUPNAME). For the moment, I'll assume you're already familiar with this...if you need further instruction let us know. The downside of the unsub/resub approach is you will lose "ownership" of your content (files, photos, message) in the subgroup. If it's important to retain that, merging the two accounts is the only remaining option. The merging process is straightforward but a little arduous; just take it one step at a time. Instructions can be found in the GMF wiki page at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts Hope this helps, Bruce |

Re: sound recordings of mtgs
Lloyd,
are there specific file formats that are not allowed? Not that I know of. We tried to upload a recording from an iphoneof a business meeting toThe file upload process has been known to choke on individual files that are too large, or a collection of files that are too large. This is a relatively small limit (perhaps 10 to 100 MB) even when ample space remains in the group's storage limit. Audio and video files can be quite large, depending on the encoding used and duration. Re: Pending members not being admitted into forum
Amy Ivan
Thanks so much for the tips so far. On my invitation page all I ever see is if the invite is "sent" or "accepted". On my members page only the date the person "applied" to be in the forum. We hold classes each month and at the end of that time the "classroom" is cleaned out so that's why people have to receive a new invitation each month. The only reason I know if a particular member is pending is when I get an e-mail from groups.io telling me as much (that's when I was approving them) or seeing it under "activity". But once I did approve these people, I thought they were fine. Except they really aren't approved. The only time I know there is a problem is when they are e-mailing me and telling me they are still pending. Nowhere can I find a list of members who are "approved" or "pending" next to their name/invite. Does that make sense?
