Re: searching messages

Win,

Could you please report this?
Bruce did, but I'd encourage you to report the details of your own experience to [email protected] so that Mark doesn't think it only affects members using the YYYY-MM-DD format.

It's probably worth reporting your Browser and OS as well, just in case those are somehow a factor.

Thanks Shal,

This works for what I want to do.. my format is the Aussie way ... day, month, year... but I just used the calendar and found the date range and it worked fine.

I have a Photoshop group, and have made folders on my hard drive with just the date of a project, but nothing showing the URL of the project, nor the name... now I¡¯ll be able to update everything.

My back up program will throw? a fit because of all the alterations, but eventually I'll get organised.

Thanks for the help.

Re: searching messages

Doug,

Please bear in mind that a large portion of the world - perhaps even
the majority - writes the date the other way around: ie DD-MM-YYYY ...
Sorry, but YYYY-MM-DD is an international standard, ISO 8601. It is also the logical order, in that it sorts correctly in a plain text sort.

That much of the world does something else is a historical fact, but new designs should allow, if not encourage, using the ISO standard format. And Groups.io does allow it (and I choose to use it).

you may care to investigate this before making any upgrades..
If you mean upgrades to Groups.io, I don't work there. So far as is known, no Groups.io employees are members of GMF.

Have a look at the Date Display choices available on the Preferences page of your Account: you can choose DD.MM.YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD or MM/DD/YYYY. Use anything other than MM/DD/YYYY at the risk of finding bugs, apparently.

Re: How many emails for group invites?

Dan,

How many email addresses can I send an invite to if our group is still
at the free level?
There is no stated limit.

However, if you invite more than 20 in a 24-hour period then your invitations will be held for review by Groups.io (an anti-spam measure).

Approval is normally relatively prompt (hours to days) but may vary with weekends, holidays and vacations. When approved your entire list goes out, so if you have more than 20 to invite, you may as well do them in a single use of the Invite page so that you only wait for approval once.

Hi Dan, if memory serves me correctly, it is hundred and 20 and then anything after that has to be approved by the System administrator

Is there any way to search the messages for a specific date?

Yes.
Click on the filter icon (funnel shape) to the right of the search button. Then click the Any Time button and select Custom Range...

Dang. I see the bugs are back.

If in your Account Preferences you've selected a Date Display other than MM/DD/YYYY then the entry of a custom date range will be ... finicky. I haven't exactly worked out what the deal is, whether it matters if you edit the text or use the calendar drop-down, for example, but I often as not get no results when I have my preferred Date Display of YYYY-MM-DD.

I reported this to support once long ago, and I thought it got fixed. Maybe I didn't test well enough, or maybe it has reverted.

Yes.

Click the Search button at top. Once the dialog box comes up, click the blue Search button in the dialog box (without entering any search string). As might be expected, this search will return every message in the group.?

Now click on the Tools button. Pull down the blue Any Time menu and select Custom Range. Enter your date window and click on Go.

Whoa. That didn't work after all. The other time intervals seem to work but Custom Range always returns nothing. Is anyone else seeing different behavior?

If the group owner hasn't disabled it, message editing can be done via the Edit Message function in the More menu.? The original is available by clicking on the blue Edited button at the upper right of the post.? That takes you to a list of the edits where you can few any version, as well as compare any two of them.? When members edit a message, the new one is immediately posted (or sent to pending), then emailed to those receiving individual messages.? If it's done between digests, only the latest version is included in those.? An owner (or permitted moderator) can edit a message, then save without sending it out.

Re: Group Member Message Editing

Ern,

You know what would be handy?? The ability for a Group member to edit his/her posted message.?

That exists.

Some groups disable the feature though. The Disable Editing Posts checkbox can be found in the Message Policies section of the group's Settings page. Even if that is checked, moderators can edit member posts if the moderator has the Edit Archives permission. Owners can always edit message posts.

Several social media hosts permit editing, however, the reader has to dig to see the history of changes.? All changes should be visible.

Both statements are true here, in the groups web pages (Messages section). Messages that have been edited are marked with an Edited badge. Clicking that badge gives a list of the revisions that have been made, you can click on a revision to see that one, or checkmark two revisions to see a comparison of what changed.

By email, the situation is different. If a member edits his/her message the updated version is sent to the list, with a notice at the top that says it has been edited. This is why some groups turn the feature off for members - they find the edited messages more distracting than an "oops" message.

If a mod or owner edits a message the mod/owner will have the choice of save and send, or saving the changes without sending the update. But even if the owner/mod chooses not to send the update to the group, it will be sent to the individual member whose message was edited.

Group Member Message Editing

I cannot find this topic in the archives.

You know what would be handy?? The ability for a Group member to edit his/her posted message.? The edited portion should show up either in the header or footer of the original message.? Often times members post either a new topic or reply to a posted message, and they do an "oops".? "I shouldn't have said it that way."

It would be important that the original message is displayed, but the "addendum" should be included, example: [Addendum:? I should have included an additional contact number for clarification.? Please include xxx-xxx-xxxx]

Several social media hosts permit editing, however, the reader has to dig to see the history of changes.? All changes should be visible.

Yes, for an automatic, full transfer, you must pay for a year of premium.? You could always spend (a lot of) time moving everything manually, but unless each person moves their own files, photos, etc, all of them will be "owned" by the person that does it.? Also see:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

If you pay for a month of premium, you could add all the members using Direct add. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Direct-Add-From-Yahoo

Newbie Here -- a [transfer] Question

Dan Robinson

I am seeking to transfer a Yahoo group over to Groups.io??? I have already created the group at the free level, but see now
that a transfer requires at least a year at the premium level, which I am not sure members of the Yahoo group will be willing to
do.

Can someone clarify for me whether it is an absolute requirement now by Groups.io that premium status exist in order to
have Groups do a transfer?

Thanks

Thanks All for your replies and comments to my hashtag editing query.

It appears that for the time being the most practical thing is to continue to remove hashtags from posts manually, one at a time.
