¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The point is not the visiting of the web page.
?
All of my groups are email based groups BUT?I send out the homepage link in Ads letters that?go?out for perspective members to read about the group and possible join. The ad in the ads letter is a teaser and says For More Information Go to the Homepage.
?
In groups I own, I often refer my members to go to the homepage to view what can be shared in the group.
?
They don't care about the most Active Topics, Upcoming Events, Hashtags
They need to be able to view the entire BLURB on the homepage.

I'll bet it's far fewer than those of us who actually use the web interface with some frequency would suspect.

Most of the e-mail participants I know have never, ever visited the web pages for the groups of which they're members.? I very seldom visit the Home pages of the groups of which I'm a member.? Many of the +help addresses do not include much of any group description information in that reply, and it should be just as important there as it is on a group's home page.

I think we all should report it.
I asked Shal if he was going to talk to Mark or should I and didn't get an answer.
That is why I haven't written to Beta yet or even support but will now.?

Re: What Happened to HOME PAGES OF GROUP???????????

Leeni

Well maybe in the circles you?travel in, not having the description of what the home page is about may seem okay to you.?But in the circles that I travel in and the groups that I own, a description of what the group is about needs to be there.
?
For instance, yes you can tell what this group is about by it's name
Say I want to join a group that shares Paint Shop Pro? and we find one and all it says now is
We share anything?psp?related.
You don't know if it is a lurking group because many PSP groups are
You don't know if it isn't a lurking group how many times per week you have to share
You don't know if it is a PSP Challenge group and you need to participate in at least one Challenge per week
You don't know if only the owners share
Now because of all of that you don't join the group because there is too much uncertainty.
The who explanation of a group needs to be shown.
?
Now you can't say that perspective members can read the active topics to find out what is being shared in?a group because if you made your messages Private all that doesn't show. Members do need to know the specifics before joining a group.

You can figure out by the names of a very great many groups what they're basically about.? Even with the paragraph or two description, those are hardly comprehensive, and there are many "join to try" folks who then unsubscribe.? 'Twas ever thus.

My group description includes some steps required to join one of my groups, but now none of that is visible to be read. This is bad.

Same thing. Someone didn't think this through.

And... the list of most recent threads are labelled "Active Topics", which implies that these are the most active topics. And the most recent threads are not very "active", so this creates the impression that my group is just about dead (if the "active" threads are mostly very short threads).

And... there is now a list of "Top hashtags", too. My group doesn't use hashtags, so the only hashtag is "#test", and now the group homepage proclaims that "#test" is the group's top hashtag. Can you imagine what that says about my group?

Oh, and yes, the description is truncated, and there is no way to read the entire description.

Also the position of the hashtags' "View all" link is far away from the hashtags and directly beneath the dates of the most recent posts, so if anyone were to click "View all", they'd get not "all messages" but a page with one hashtag saying "test", and a link to four test messages.

This change was really, really not thought through.

Samuel

I just went to my Homepage of my group and where it used to have the
Banner on top followed by the description of the group.
?
Now the description of the group is truncated with a View All link to click if you want to see the home page and then under it you see active topics,?Upcoming Events?etc and then you see the group's?information and then history.
?
It seems the NEWS FEED is now being shown on the Home Page of the groups.
That is NOT GOOD.
The Home page should just be the home page.
?
Is this a bug or is this how it is going to be from now on?

Arghh; what it has done to the group I moderate is truly horrible.

And furthermore I see no purpose in listing the top hashtags, particularly those that are for Moderator Use Only.

I don't recall anyone requesting that any of these "improvements" be made.

Okay, so the way the homepage looks now isn't a bug. It was intentional.
?
So the bug lies in that the description of the group cannot be read.
I would agree that it is a problem. Perspective members need to know what the group is all about before applying to join.
?
So what is the next step?
Are you going to write to Mark about it or should I?

Leeni,

I just went to my Homepage of my group ...

[voice="Dr. Who"] That's new.

It seems the NEWS FEED is now being shown on the Home Page of the groups. ...
Is this a bug or is this how it is going to be from now on?

It has some of the same styling as the /feed page, but there's also the regular home page sections that are not on the feed page. So I would say that it is not a bug.

One thing that does strike me as a bug is the truncation of the Description text - that is definitely a problem.

Re: What Happened to HOME PAGES OF GROUP???????????

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I was mistaken. The view all page just brings you to?all of the messages.
There isn't any way now for a perspective member to read what your group is about.
The rules etc as it isn't showing now. All that shows is 2 lines of the group's description.
?
The?news feed seemed to now be combined with the home pages of the group.
?
If your group is set to private archives, all a non member?will see is the Banner for the group and a 2 line description. No explanation of what the group is about. They DO NOT see the news feed. They will only see the news feed if your group was set to public archives.

I just discovered that when you click the View All expecting to see the entire Home Page of the group it automatically brings you to the messages??and not to the home page of the group so a perspective member can read what the group is about.
