Re: A in blue box after email delivery choice

Marcia,

What does the A after the choice of delivery methods - on groups.io
Member List. mean and how did it get there???
It means that the member has set a maximum attachment size for delivery to his/her email address. You'll find that setting under Advanced Preferences in your Subscription page.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Brian,

?

The few times I¡¯ve experienced a problem that could have turned into a flame war, several members would chime in to tell the offender that their comment was out of line (in as nice a way as they can), and I would have to support these members in their sentiment. If I really had too, I would talk to the offender on the side asking them to refrain for the good of the group. Maybe a lot of my luck as been the maturity of the members, and that none of them has anything to prove to each other. As owner and moderator, if I really felt there was no other way to solve the problem, I would ban the offender for the good of the group. Managing a group online to me is no different than managing a group in person as in a business, where the goal in getting anything done is keeping everyone happy as much as possible.

Yes on the Member's list, and yes she was on the list before sending the emails. Thank you so much for your time! I'll contact support.

Correct.

I'm assuming those entries said "Pending member ... attempted to send
message" rather than indicating some other reason for their rejection.

> And, I verified the email address is the one that I accepted.
> I'm not really sure what to do now?

Do you mean that you verified that exact email address is in your
group's Members list? And it has been since before those attempts were
made (as verified by its Applied/Joined date)?

If it is and has been then I'd report those facts (including the email
address of the member) to [email protected] - the inconsistency implies
either a system glitch or that we're misunderstanding the symptoms.

Don,

? ? ? ? ? ?Then you are exceptionally lucky.? ?I have been involved in a very great many online discussion groups over the years, and have now been moderating several for a while now, and I have seen most of them have issues where stern moderator warnings (both private and public) and the occasional banning have been required.

? ? ? ? ? ?There are also simply people who get on each other's nerves for reasons that no one besides themselves can really fathom.? I'd far rather they have the option to "individually ban" (via ignoring) the content posted by each other than having to deal with the repeated hissy fits that virtually always occur if they cannot.

? ? ? ? ? ? I have also found that heavy-handed moderation tends to squeeze the life out of a group very quickly.? ?Adults can, do, and should be able to have disagreements, even heated ones.? ?It is entirely possible to have a vehement disagreement with out being unbearably disagreeable.? It's those who can't seem to rein themselves in and who fire up flame wars after repeat warnings that get the boot.

I think keeping the peace in a group is up to the owner and/or moderator of that group first, and an ignore option is not needed if the owner and/or moderator are doing their job. I have only had to keep the peace two times in 10+ years, and it was done without having to kick anyone out of the group.

For those who would like to see an "Ignore User" option, I'd advise joining the Beta group, searching for ignore or block user, and bumping one of the topics where that request has previously been made.? Priorities get set, at least partially, based upon user demand/request.

I have never understood why that option was not a part of Groups.io.? ?Owners and moderators should not be able to use it (as we need to be watching everyone and all traffic they generate, in fact, I'd block any ignore list the moment anyone was elevated to moderator, with notification, and never allow owners to create one in the first place) but having the ability to ignore certain users would be a blessing for many regular members.

Hi, I had some time to go through the activity log and found her 3 attempts to send mail. So, I guess that means she's sending to the right place. And, I verified the email address is the one that I accepted. I'm not really sure what to do now? She's still not able to send.

Okay, so much for that. While we're waiting for Duane's test, a more basic question...

When you say the 1-hour #cal-reminder is not being sent, do you mean by email? Is it also missing from the online message archive?

I've set up a test event (on a test group) using the parameters you've given.? I won't know until Saturday morning (CDT) how it turns out though.? I suspect there may be a bug, but this should tell us for sure.

Gloria, if you wish to change your email address you use for Groups.io, you can.

Your email address is your account ID. Here's help from the GMF wiki:

Re: VIA [when messages received in email]

Marcio,

The other way I can understand this "via " thing is that it's a way of preventing spam or undesired private emails from others.

It is not done for that purpose.

I gather it when I look at the addresses. They appear to be "masked", yet it's quite easy to edit and "unmask" them.
?
That form of alteration, user=[email protected] is a work-around for Yahoo Mail's use of DMARC to request that other services reject any message from their users which did not arrive directly from a Yahoo Mail server. The change makes the From domain of the message, so that the message is no longer subject to Yahoo Mail's DMARC policy. Groups.io intentionally made it easy for you to manually "unmask" the address.

You see a more drastic modification of members' From addresses in Yahoo Groups. They too substitute their domain () for the member's service, but they do it to all messages, not just those sent from users of benighted email services.

Shal,
Those email services consider it a security feature to alert their users when messages have arrived through a mailing list rather than directly from the sending member.

Re: VIA [when messages received in email]

Gloria,

I am an owner of a group that uses Incredimail.? I'm?not sure that has anything to do with my question but it could.?

It does not.

Some people's posts when they come thru email, say? Mouse via groups.IO? Can you tell me why

It depends on the email service / application used by the member reading the message, but some will show "via " for all messages that pass through Groups.io (or any other email list), and others will show it only for messages from members using certain email services (such as Yahoo Mail or AOL) that put DMARC restrictions on their user's messages.

and more importantly, how it can be fixed?

It cannot be. Those email services consider it a security feature to alert their users when messages have arrived through a mailing list rather than directly from the sending member.
