Sorry if this has been answered before but I've just spent half an hour searching and while I found LOTs of interesting information I didn't find what I needed...
Anyway, I have a newsletter for my group I created in Apple Pages. ?I then exported it as a size reduced pdf file. ?I'd like the pdf file to display in the message body so they don't have to click a link to see it. Below are the ways I've tried to include info. They might just be a visual salad, sorry. ?Anyway, what's the best way to have a nicely formatted newsletter in groups.io? Gina First is use the link button (but it just includes a link, like below. Not what I want): Second is use the Picture button (but it only includes page 1 of the pdf file like below): Third is use the attachment button (then it shows up at the end of the email....) Copy and paste the pages file (but it just becomes a stacked mess..0 |

Marcio,
Yes. Refer to GMF's Guidelines: ... Listing your groups in your signature is perfectly acceptable, but just make sure there's also on-topic content in your post. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

But when I hit send (as you will note down below) it always shows up double spaced which is clumsy and I have to edit it each time to be single spaced. [ sigh ] I've tried different settings in my subscription for the IO group that displays my sig/tagline but it always reverts to being double spaced! How to format this sig/tagline to be single spaced, please? Of course I can always do a manual copy & paste, but that gets old fast. Suggestions welcome. Re: Posting With the Owner's Email

开云体育Linda,Change your Display Name for that group to whatever you want folks to see.So, I would have to change my display name on that group to List Owner? I'm kind of confused because I thought that selecting the owner's email, well, it would show as the owner and it would only show my name if I select to send as myself (that is, with my own email address). Then again I don't know what the system use as the name on the welcome/goodbye/etc emails, so it makes sense, I guess. Anyway, thanks :) Cheers, AKA Starboy Sent from a galaxy far, far away. |

Posting With the Owner's Email
marcio
开云体育Hi,Yesterday I made a poll and today I've closed it, so I wanted to make the members aware of the results. I've created a new topic with the "from owner" option selected. The email is shown correctly, [email protected]. However, in the "from" field I can still see my name along with the owner address. Is there any way of hidding my name and leaving just the group's name or something like that when posting with the owner's email? Thanks a lot, as always. ?
Cheers,

开云体育Paul,I have heard that there are some ways to do that , such as with keywords that browsers like Google, etc., will look for when someone does sa search for groups like ours, but I do not know how to go about getting a browser like Google to find those words and make a hit on our group so people will see that we are available. You've already answered your question :)
depending on your group's name, Google will show it up more
easily.
For example, I have a very specific group and just searching for "group name groups.io" shows my group just on the first result. So that's my suggestion. Choose a name that won't leave space for other results, or at least lots of them, and Google should list your group as you are wanting to. By the way, So far I have removed the ad about my group from my sig because I don't know whether I can post it here along with my messages. Can I? Re: Promoting One's Groups.io Group

Bonnie,
Yahoo groups had a lot of groups set up for the purpose of promotingYes. That would not violate the ToS, so it would be up to the group owner(s) whether that would be allowed, or even be the purpose of the group. Searching for "advertise groups" turned up some attempts, but none of them seem viable at a glance: /g/AdsAdsAds /g/Advertise /g/jojosadsplace /g/newsletter-adz /g/PurpleAds Many of them have private archives, which seems... counterproductive. Yahoo groups had a lot of groups set up for the purpose of promoting groups. People would join the group to receive or post ads about other groups.
Is something like that permissible on IO? Bonnie On Thu, 09 May 2019 16:15:23 -0700, "Epicatt2" <stanhopi@...> wrote:

Donald,
I've been using a tagline on my emails with the name and URL of the group and have seen a few interested visits. As to Facebook, I steer clear of it as much as possible due to its aggressive penchant for harvesting personal information which has happened to me on a couple of occasions –and I'm not a FB user and only an accidental visitor! What I'd very much prefer to learn is how to get a high 'hit position' on a search site like Google, which some groups which are very similarly named to my group seem to have been able to do. Cheers! I am about to do that with a new group on groups.io since the original group on Yahoo is closing down as of today, but there may be interest out there if we can find it and reel it in. Since it's about the health of cats and their veterinary care, and many people have cats, it just might be something that mentioning on Facebook can spread the word. I've already contacted the original group's only remaining moderator about this and am waiting for her reply before just forging ahead and starting the new group, even though the group itself is already made and waiting for something to do with it. Yahoo has/had the benefit of what I think was a better way of advertising groups with their directory. I've not found the directory on GIO to bring in many people to new groups. My sig line on my emails brings in a few amateur radio operators to my Icom group, but I'm not going to add a line for each group I own. Promoting One's Groups.io Group
#howto
Dear GMF Members,
We moved our group from Y!Gs to Groups.io about a year ago as a premier group. It worked out fine and Groups.io is stable and easy to use, so that is not the problem. It seems that some members maybe were resistant to moving (after all) or didn't want to learn how to use a new group, even though we asssured them that it would be nearly the same experience as it was on Y!G. Anyway, our new posting activity has fallen off severely and we need to promote our group somehow and attract new members. I have heard that there are some ways to do that , such as with keywords that browsers like Google, etc., will look for when someone does sa search for groups like ours, but I do not know how to go about getting a browser like Google to find those words and make a hit on our group so people will see that we are available. I searched quite a bit online but did not find anyting that explained how to acomplish this group-recognition-feat, so now I'm turning to GMF for some guidance and/or instruction. Any suggestions or explanations would be welcome. Fingers X-ed! Paul M. CostaRicaLiving /g/CostaRicaLiving == NOTE: This is a repost to correct typos in the original. -pm == |

First, is there a way for editing the poll without sending it to the group, like we can do with a normal topic?Every time you edit an existing poll, a new notification is sent. This occurs even if you don't change the question or any of the allowed responses. It's a little annoying, for sure. Second, if when the "don't show who responded" is checked even a mod can't see the members, how would I do if I want to see the members but don't want other members to see themselves? Is it not possible then?I would check the second box: "Only moderators and poll creators can view results and responders, regardless of whether the poll is open or closed." If you want to allow subscribers to view the final results without viewing who responded, I don't know how to do that. Perhaps someone else can help. Then, it doesn't matter if I check/uncheck the box regarding seeing members? With this box checked/unchecked, either way I will be able to see who voted?Oh I see, you're talking about the "Do not show who responded to the poll" checkbox (last box in the list)? You're correct...if that box is checked, even the poll creator/moderators cannot see who responded, but they can see what the votes were, even before the poll is closed. I never check that box; but if you edit your poll, uncheck it, and save, you should now be able to see them...even if the poll is still open. This of course assumes that anybody has actually voted correctly. Good luck, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
