Re: forms
#files
David,
Hi, Can I create infill able forms for members to return usingThe only form-like tool in Groups.io is the Database. You can create a table, and set the table properties so that members can view the table but not edit the table properties, and can add rows but edit only their own rows. You can set how many columns the table has, and what type of information goes in each column. When someone adds or edits a row they see a simple "form" page with fields to fill in for each column's data. A possible downside to this scheme, depending on your application, is that members will be able to see each others' rows. There does not appear to be a setting that will let them view only their own rows. Groups.io site updates
#changelog
Hi all,
This week's change log: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. The next #changelog will be on May 3rd.Because Mark is on vacation until April 29th. NEW: New Monthly Reminder member notice. These are sent on the 1st ofThis may solve an inconvenience for groups that have reminders which they don't want to be part of the formal Guidelines page. CHANGE: You cannot like messages in locked topics.Discussion in beta indicates that this one has gone back and forth a few times. The prevailing thought is that adding Likes on a locked topic is a kind of changing history. Or that it somehow leads to ongoing discussion of the topic (within new topics or off-list wasn't made clear). Given that no one is notified of Likes (presently) I'm not sure how this came to be a concern. Comments about these are welcome: INTERNAL: Work on adding the ability to charge for subscriptions. Please call out any you find significant. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Banning
Donna,
In my case, I don't think the offender will try that but, even if sheWhile sometimes better than nothing, note that using an IP address to identify someone has limitations. On the false positive side, often an entire household, office, library, dorm, or other location will use a single IP address at its internet router. In some cases entire cities can be behind a single IP address. On the false negative side a person may be able to be assigned a new IP address as simply as turning their cable/fiber modem/router power off and on again. Or they can temporarily use their phone as a WiFi hotspot. Or they can go to another location. Or they can use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to route through a different IP address. All of those, the false positive and negative, are probably unlikely for most would-be group members. But someone persistent enough may try those if they find that simply getting a new email address didn't work. Laurie -- This happens whenever you send more than 20 invitations within a 24-hour period. See??for an explanation of why this limit exists. Yahoo groups has a similar requirement, designed to thwart those who would set up a group and use it for spamming purposes. The remaining invitations in your most recent batch will usually go out within a few hours. However, because groups.io support is on vacation until 4/29 so it could take a little longer than usual (ref:?). Go to Admin>Invite and click on "Sent Invitations" to check status (or wait for the promised email notification). Once your latest batch does get approved, I suggest you send *all* your remaining invitations at once. You can do this by uploading a plain text file,?containing all of the addresses, one address per line (and nothing else). In doing so, you will probably experience a second delay...but two delays are better than multiple ones. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Re: Suspicious file attachment in pending messages section
#spam
An alternative would be to go to a commercial office center with computer work stations available. Such as FedEx Office. Sign on to one of their computers -- thirty cents a minute at FedEx in New York -- and try and open the email. The commercial places have very robust malware detection and AV programs. If the attachment looks hinky when scanned the computer will warn you and won't let you open it.
I agree with some of the others, however, when I occasionally get an email that looks suspicious I delete it on sight. I even go to the Recently Deleted folder and delete it from there. Especially if it arrives in a group pending file, I don't hesitate, it's history. tommy0421 |

Invitees on hold until "approved"
I'm receiving this message while trying to invite our club members to our group: You have reached the limit for number of invites that can be sent out without approval. Once your new invites have been approved, they will be sent out. You will receive a notification when this happens. Trying to convert our membership from another Forum board to Groups.io and it appears this is going to be problematic.? How long do I have to wait until I can resume sending invites?? ? ? == Original Message ==
Hi, I start a test group on 9 march 2019 (with another mail), and some time later (26 march) i receive e-mail seemingly from this email account with only a jpg image including a ransom request. There is no direct link with the group, but an other member say to me he got the same thing (the day he was added to the group). ===== f1mqj - Take the subject line and just plug it into the search window on your web browser and you'll probably get dozens of hits. These are most all very vague, toothless threats. They likely list an old password that the recipient used at one time in the threat. If you can go into "Properties" without opening the message, you might find it interesting to check the email source. My email handler gives me a menu to do this by right clicking on the message instead of left-clicking. Check on the source and scroll down to see where it originally came from. The original source of one I got came from "Received: from net182-35-245-109.mbb.telenor.rs ([109.245.35.182])" You'll note the nation code at the end of the address is RU - Russia. The first from address above this is my own address which has been spoofed to get around my spam filter. These are just people trying to get money by phishing. They're probably buying old information sold by people who have hacked into old data somewhere. (Remember all those addresses and personal data stolen from Yahoo a couple years ago?) I find it interesting that most of these don't even tell you how to get bitcoins in the first place, showing an incredible ignorance of their target subjects. The best thing to do is delete them without opening them. I hope this helps. Dano |
