Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
LeeAnne,
It seems incomplete. I don't see an X-Received field that shows the actual receipt from the source. That was probably below the X-YMailISG: field which ended your copy. In any case, what is there, and what was in the activity log you sent me off list indicate that the spam actually came from that member's AOL account, and that the member is not moderated (the word "Accepted" in the log means that approval was not required): So the mystery is that it seems turning off Messages-Who can post is apparently ineffective somehow for this one member (the other messages, before and after, we'll have to presume were bounced because the Who can post is off). My suggestion would be to check the member's Posting Privileges. Is it possible the member is set to "Override - messages are not moderated"? It would seem like an absurd bug, but perhaps that's overriding the access control. If my inference that the member's AOL account is compromised is correct, you should probably make sure she's moderated at groups.io too, just in case.
Not sure where it went. I guess groups.io's pending message editor stripped it. Shal |

Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
Donald, > Can calendars be shut off when we leave a group idle on Yahoo to > direct people to a group elsewhere, like on groups.io? Yes, but past experience is that turning off access to the calendar doesn't stop it from sending reminders. One actually must delete or modify the events. Shal

Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
HI Shal, Here is a copy of the "view source" from the message, sorry for the extra space but I can't figure out how to get rid of it.? oh yeah and another strange thing is we have never (and still don't in groups.io) allowed attachments in our group's messages.? I can't figure out how this person managed to post a message! Our files have been closed to member upload for years and we have never used our events calendar. As far as I can tell there are no events in it.? 199844Beverly Jurinek sent a messageExpand Messages

Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
LeeAnne,
Do you think this is some new way to spam???Duh, I forgot to suggest another source of evidence: the group's Activity Log. Are there any incriminating entries in there from around the date/time of the spam posting, under "Mail", "Web", or "Email Commands"? Probably not "Membership" or "Moderator Activity", but you might look anyway. Shal |

Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
Hi LeeAnne,
I'm pretty sure this wasn't done with the calendar. That is modIt is now. Has it always been? If it were an event it may have been set before the calendar was closed to members. I already moderated that member in Yahoo.Hmm... Maybe I'm wrong about the Moderate override suppressing event reminders - maybe that had to have been set before the event was created. This is a copy as it was fwded to the Groups.io group owners:The evidence might be clearer if received as individual mail, not digest. Then you could examine the message's header. Or, since it did post to the group, you could use View Source there to have a look. That really ought to tell the story. The sender Beverly Jurinek is a member but not a mod in the yahoo orHaving "Who can post" set to "Off" one would think would be effective either way. That's interesting, and points in the direction of the message not being posted by email. The other oddity(?) is that her membership ID isThat seems consistent with the shot from the messages list and the digest. "Beverly Jurinek sent a message" would appear to be the Subject line, "topbevsdog" is shown where the ID would be used. Do you think this is some new way to spam???I'm still betting on it being an old way (Calendar). Or Files, with an upload notice; except that would appear to be mod-only too. Shal |

Hi Shal I'm pretty sure this wasn't done with the calendar. ?That is mod only. ?I already moderated that member in Yahoo. ? The message is in the yahoo groups' messages: Here are our Yahoo settings: This is a copy as it was fwded to the Groups.io group owners: The sender Beverly Jurinek is a member but not a mod in the yahoo or groups.io group. ?The other oddity(?) is that her membership ID is topsbevsdog not Beverly Jurinek. There is no membership ID of Beverly Juinek. ?Gah, I get so confused. ?It takes so little time to forget how a group works! Do you think this is some new way to spam??? -- ?Archivist |

Re: Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
LeeAnne,
We want our old Yahoo files and messages available for anyone to readA couple thoughts: How did you "close" the messages? By changing the "Messages-Who can post" setting in the Access Control page your group's Control Panel? That should be more effective than putting the group on moderation. One old spammer trick is to set events with reminders in the group's Calendar. Those can continue posting even when the member has been removed or banned. But setting the member's Posting Privilege to the "Override - posts are moderated" setting usually quenches them. Another trick is to send to the members directly (having collected a list of active members via their postings). If the spam messages do not appear in the group's archive this is what I'd suspect. Spam coming from Closed Yahoo group
Hi All, Okay this isn't about groups.io but since many of us have migrated from there, I have a question that is driving our mods mad. We want our old Yahoo files and messages available for anyone to read but do not want anyone posting there so we close the messages. However it seems there is some back door that is allowing spammers to get messages through. ? Does anyone have a clue why or how this can happen? ? -- ?Archivist |

I found a Universal .css file that has the classes you can use to format your wiki pages. It is now available in files as bootstrap.min.css, for those of you who know css. You cannot edit the css source but you van use what's listed.

Getting started with the swap
Julia Powell
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDear Group Managers ? I am about to switch my group over. I want to send a message out to members of the current group on Yahoo today or tomorrow to warn them what¡¯s happening before I switch on Thursday or Tuesday next week. Is there a cheat sheet that I as a moderator should go through to make sure I do this with a minimal fuss and disruption as possible? I have seen the Yahoo instructions in Easy Group Transfer. ? Thanks ? Julia ?

Re: Photo Album Sorting
We've been using the date numbering system for photo folders for many years. Works really well. With so many activities and members who participate in our embroidery challenges, it's handy to have them put photos of their projects into a collective folder for each project named with year.month.date - project name. All these project folders automatically sort by date with the oldest first. Adding 00 to the front of any folder brings it to the top of the list. We do this for all current projects. And it's really handy to have project folders that are named with a date. If you are looking through the messages and find a project that interests you, just look for the photo folder from around that time period for samples of the project. Members can also create folders titled with their names and these automatically sort after the dated project folders and are ordered alphabetically. Thus, there is no need for us to have sorting features unless it would be to add one for most recent activity. Our members have never had any problems with this system and are quite capable and willing to share their photos with the group.? Scrolling through the photos is so quick here in Groups io - love it!? Barb Suess |

Jim,
how is a request (for album sorting) made? How does it get ontoThe request is made by posting on beta@ addressed to Mark; preferably as its own topic with appropriate hashtags. I'd suggest #photos #suggestion The Trello list is maintained by Mark, only he can add or edit items there. Shal |

Re: Photo Album Sorting
I too agree that being able to sort Albums would be wonderful and is right up at the top of my wish list along with being able to moderate photos. However (and I was even using this on Yahoo, since my people seemed incapable or unwilling to make any effort to help themselves, it had gotten so bad) - and, I too moved a group that had a lot of photo albums (though we did a lot of cleaning house before we packed up and moved :>P ) - I preface the? current album names with two leading zeros and the year. For example:? 00 2017 Album Name Then, come year-end/new year, I strip off the zeros, so we can use that in the new year. It really didn't take that long to maintain (the group is over 700 members and photos are a key part of interaction for us). This kept the current year stuff at the top, and then when it changes over there is still a alpha-numeric sort (which is how Groups.io lists them). It's not the best but it works, and is better than nothing. Ginny On Sat, Apr 8, 2017 at 12:42 pm, Jim Coffee wrote: On the Yahoo platform it was possible to sort the albums by "Most Recent".? ? |
