OK; I will put something together, but not until after I have done a test or two on the group I co - own promoting my "other membership" to moderator with limited privileges with and without Set Moderator Privileges being one of them. It might provide a more complete picture of the situation as it currently exists.

I am going to be out for most of this evening (UK time!) so it is unlikely to be before tomorrow.

Yes, I think it would be worth suggesting - a place for moderators to see what privileges they have - rather than have to just try to see if it can be done.

MEMBER KEEPS GETTING KICKED OUT OF GROUP

Lavon

We have had the same lady at least 7 times get a notice that she has been removed.? How can I as an owner help her with this problem ?? She is the only one that keeps getting these messages.? I've told her to check her spam folder often to make sure everything is ok.? She is the only one in our group that this happens too.? Message below is what she is getting,
This is to notify you that [redacted] has been unsubscribed from your group [redacted] because a message to them was marked as spam. Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally. They've been given a link that lets them quickly resubscribe, in case this was an error.

Brian; thanks for that, and to Duane for his Now I can see the list.

I don't think I need to post a screen shot because... when I look at myself on the group for which I am a co - owner, there is a section for "Role", which (unsurprisingly) says I am an Owner.

However, in shalstest that entry simply isn't there, and neither can I see it in (for example) Brian's equivalent entry.

So perhaps as Duane suggested it is the Set Moderator Privileges checkbox that controls it.

Now I am not going to rush and suggest that Shal changes the details of my ,oderapotr privileges, but if nothing else this suggests? that telling people to "go and look" might be a futile exercise, becuase if the box isn't checked they aren't going to find anything.

Is this something that ought to be raised on beta; there is nowhere a moderator can go to find a definitive list of what they can and cannot do if that box is not checked.

Re: Finding Moderator Permissions (was: Tweaking the message footers for one's group . . .)

Shal had some of us that didn't/don't have the 'Set Moderator Privileges' checked, as in Chris' case.? I think he may have done that intentionally, though it could have been accidental, so someone didn't kick him out of his own group. ;>)? I mentioned it to him and he changed mine to enable it.? Now I can see the list.

Chris,

? ? ? ? ? ? ?When I go to Admin, Members, and open your profile (or mine - since we're both supposed to have "Grand Poobah" permissions) part of what I see is the following (you can't fit the entire screen, it's too long):

If you're not seeing this then you need to post a screen shot of what you are seeing when you open your own profile, as that's the list of permissions you could have (I don't have all of 'em checked, either, but have the ability to check the unchecked ones were I to choose to do so).

Re: Integration with Google Calendar #calendar

I've been in contact with Mark about the errors I reported and provided additional info for him to work on.? I have identified two distinct issues:

  • The ICS file used to sync a calendar contains some Unix based newline characters '\n' in certain places and Outlook 2016 generates an error message for each one when it processes the file. If I replace these with space characters, Outlook loads the file without a problem.
  • The events I thought were missing from a subgroup calendar are in fact present, they are just not showing on the correct day if they are 'all day' events.

This is now back with Mark and I'll update further when I have some news.

FWIW it doesn't matter how many times I try that I cannot find a specific list of those permissions that I do and do not have anywhere on shalstest.

Are you certain that the list you mentioned appears as described? Again FWIW by looking elsewhere I find that I do have the necessary permission to edit the message footer.

Hence the reason for my earlier comment, "Even though the details of may differ in different groups."? This is a group that focuses on screen reader technology used principally by individuals who are blind, and Skype Talking is a now long defunct app that was meant to make "old Skype" much more accessible.

I expect that the variety that characterizes the owner controlled part of message footers is very large across the groups on Groups.io.

Brian,
At the risk of being wrong, as I am a complete newbie and am here more to learn than teach, I believe you can change the group footer going to Settings.
Here, I was able to find Settings just going to the "Admin" section.
Now, as I said, I can be completely wrong on this. Just thought I'd throw my two cents trying to help :)

Brian,

So I'm asking here:? Can we (group owners or moderators) tweak the individual message footer template for our group and, if so, how and where?

You can't edit or remove the default footer items, but you can add a section to the footer. See the Message Footer text box in the Message Formatting section of the group's Settings page.

Re: Tweaking the message footers for one's group . . .

Brian,

I am guessing that access to those settings is either "Owner Only" or must be explicitly granted from the Owner to a given moderator,

Correct. As a moderator you would need to have the Modify Group Settings permission.

For comparison, have a look in shalstest, where you have that permission. Also, if you click on your row from the Members list in shalstest you can see the list of permissions the owner might give you.

Shal,

? ? ? ? ?I am guessing that access to those settings is either "Owner Only" or must be explicitly granted from the Owner to a given moderator, as I cannot find even the group's settings page as a starting point (not under Admin, not from the group home page, nowhere).

? ? ? ? ?I'll ask the group owner about this.? I know there would be no objection and he told me that we'd probably end up having to tweak permissions if we found that I were to be missing any.? Either that, or he can do it.

Re: Does a member who has been "removed" get a notification? #membership #membernotices

Brian Vogel

On the Main Help Page, under the section entitled,?Specific notices and their usage?is the following:
Removed Member

Sent automatically when a member is removed from the group. The notice marked "active" is the one sent; if no notice is active, none is sent.

Tweaking the message footers for one's group . . .

Brian Vogel

I recently received a request from one of my group members saying, "I do have a minor request. Can you please take Skype Talking out of the?
list footer? It's long dead."

Even though the details of may differ in different groups, I cannot seem to find anything obvious in the Admin panel, nor the help page, with regard to what individual group owners may tweak with regard to the individual message footers.? ?It could be they can do nothing, and this request needs to go through support.

So I'm asking here:? Can we (group owners or moderators) tweak the individual message footer template for our group and, if so, how and where?

Re: Foto Phustration

I also looked at a few Wiki pages that have broken photos.? The ones that work have:
data:image/png;base64, (long string of data) in the page source code so it looks like it's embedded in the page.? Looking at the view source within the wiki editor they are all blobs.

The ones that are broken are off-site URLs and have an id="clipImage" attribute.

It appears that what/how it's stored depends on the method used by the person that added the pictures.? Embedding looks like it works best.

The good ones have a URL of:
/g/GROUP_NAME/wikiimage/2631

and

(NO GROUP NAME!!!??!!)

and

Has anyone seen these different type locations b4, or can help decipher this?
