Hi,

We would like to skip approvals for mails from new folks. How can we
avoid this ?

Bruce,

? ? ? ? ? ? Thanks much.? Never knew about that.

? ? ? ? ? ? One important thing for anyone who's used to the usual behavior of Merge to know is that you do not, after you've selected your messages, go to another message and choose "Merge into."? The dialog that comes after hitting Merge up allows you to choose one of the messages in the collection to be the one into which all others will be merged, so you have to be sure to select the one you wish to be the "lead topic" when you're doing your multi-select.

Bill -- This is beginning to sound a lot like a feature request.

If that is your intent, you need to join the beta group () and post it there.

To merge two or more topics, go to /g/GROUPNAME/topics-test. Check the boxes next to the topics to merge and click the Merge button. A more burdensome way to do the same thing may be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Merge-Threads?

If a single message has wandered into the wrong topic, you will first have to split it out. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Split-Threads??

I use merge to do this routinely, though I have never attempted a "mass merge" and just pick up and merge the stray messages as they come along and it works perfectly.

It would be nice if there were a multi-select mechanism where a group of messages selected could be marked as being merged, then you would go to the topic where they belong and do a "Merge into."? Right now, at least to my knowledge multi-select for this purpose does not exist.

Collecting messages into one topic

My group has a few members that always start a new topic when replying to an existing topic.
I would like to collect those messages that belong in the main topic to that main topic.
Hope that is clear.
I don't find a way to do that.
Tried Merge Topics, but it went nowhere.

Thanks,
Richard

Hello Bruce, thank you for your reply, however -

i've pressed the enter key and this is the sort of thing I mentioned without holding down the shift key

Yikes!? Definitely a bug.? I did some testing on a few of my groups (as a member) and found this to be true.? On most, only the Guidelines were in the list, but on a couple it included other, non-active Notices.? That drop down box shouldn't exist at all for non-moderators.

Re: Contact via the directory - access to notices query

Hi Bruce,

I'm a subscriber to this group and I just sent you a private message with customised version the GMF guidelines.

I found your entry in the directory, clicked the Email option to open up the message editing page and selected the guidelines from the Notices dropdown.

I wondered if that was a bug.? I'll raise it with support as you believe it is.

Andy

Sending a Member Notice via the Directory should only be possible with an account having Moderator or Owner privileges. If you have evidence that regular Subscribers can do so, that would be a bug. Please let us know what hoops you managed to jump through to make this option available.

Contact via the directory - access to notices query

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the rationale behind this - perhaps someone could explain...

When sending an email directly to someone via the Directory, you can select a predefined notice as the message subject and text. On this group for example, there seems to be just one Member Notice defined and that is the group guidelines. So, anyone could send customised versions.of that to someone else (I accept that on this group that would probably be picked up by the moderators first).? On groups without moderation however...

If groups owners have gone to the trouble of defining Member Notices for specific events, what is the purpose of allowing anyone to send a private customised version?

Andy

I find that if I hold down the shift key, I get a capital letter. Your mileage may vary. :-)

Re: Yahoo transfer #transfer

Ken,

So I could understand the change as a way to recoup that working
time.
I think this is the correct surmise. The transfer activity already involved at least one manual step (a CAPTCHA to solve). I don't know there were others, or additional time taken by the latest work-around, but Mark has clearly put a lot of time into the transfer capability. I don't begrudge him trying to recoup some of that effort.

There's a hint in this direction from the earlier change that required a year's upfront Premium purchase to copy more than 100,000 messages from the Yahoo Group. And I suspect that the transfer feature also is a source of additional support requests generally.

Now I don't have any idea if he would come out and explain the issues
and reasons, but it would help sensible people understand.
Nor do I. You could always ask on beta, or through support.

Re: MSG restoration #messages

Phil,

I have a copy of the orig msg but rather than reposting and have it
duplicate distro in our next digest, I was curious if there was a more
elegant method.
You can create a hashtag with the "No Email" box checked. Then repost the message with that hashtag in its subject. The posting will go into the group's Messages section without being emailed to the members.

Not quite as handy as a true undelete, but perhaps workable.

Re: Photos - Is it possible to Move Albums to other Albums

Photo albums can only be one layer deep, so no way to have one within another.? There are times when I think that might be useful, but I haven't followed up on making the suggestion in the beta group.

I've never seen that, so had to go do some searching.? Seems there are MS programs and a few others that can be set to do so.? It would drive me nuts because I'm so used to capitalizing only what I want. ;>)

It certainly did, Bruce. ?Thank you.

I¡¯ve got them on my PC hard drive - all I have to do now is to title them and credit the snapper.

On another matter, if I may? ?When composing a message, following a return, the initial letter of the new paragraph does not capitalise. ?Can this be overcome? ?If so, how?

There is a wiki entry here in GMF on uploading files in bulk:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Bulk-File-Upload?. Uploading photos works in essentially the same way...you must first create all the albums and then bulk-upload the corresponding photos into each one.

Whoever does the upload will have "ownership" of them. The group owner can change ownership of any existing photo or file by editing it to reassign ownership to any existing member. This involves selecting the name from a pick-list of all members, so hopefully there won't be too many to choose from. You can also add captions and descriptions and such at that time.

The process is pretty burdensome; but with only 200 photos it's also do-able.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
