Since there is no tracking done on this site, there should be no way for the other services to do additional tracking.? The only information they can 'see' here would be the login procedure.? Depending on a person's settings for the alternate, there may or may not be additional information added to their visible account on that site. Please help me find instructions on how to make it a restricted group?Using the menu options on the left go to Admin > Settings.?? Scroll down to the Spam Control section and you will see the restricted membership option checkbox at the top of the list. If you are thinking of getting (or have) a premium plan then this gives you additional options for adding members to your group. Member access to databases in subgroup
I have a subgroup that has several databases.? In settings I have it set up so that a member can view, but not create.?
When a member clicks on the Databases tab on the left, the list of databases comes up, but they can't click on the name to view the contents. Is there something else that I need to set so that they can see the contents? Thanks Beth |

I did one of them, as best I could, and it's proven to be a tedious/frustrating process. It's entirely possible that "someday" may never come. Signing in with Google or Facebook - data security and group promotion
Hello
I am going to promote the group as "private, no adverts, no data mining, no tracking or friend requests". Most existing users hate Facebook, most potential users love it. If people sign in via Facebook or Google, do these companies start tracking them? Are these companies able to see the data on Groups.io? Automatic sign in might attract new users, but what disadvantages does it have? My account seems to sign itself in quite happily with neither of these being signed in, so I do not really understand what this functionality is. I am going to try to promote the group saying that Groups.io is better at planning and coordination, and has more useful features (rather than just less garbage). Does anyone have any tips or ideas for me? Thanks John Clube |
Re: Power Point Slideshow
Maureen,
Is there a way to post a slideshow such as Power Point on Groups.io?There isn't a native slideshow viewer, one that operates within the context of Groups.io's web pages. Opening a photo in an Album and then using the left and right arrows (at the edge of the photos, not on the keyboard) to move through the album is a little bit like a manual slideshow. That might be an interesting suggestion for beta: add slideshow controls to the viewing options for an album - allowing automatic presentation of the album's content. You could store a PowerPoint file in the group's Files section. But as far as I know there aren't any browsers which will open that file format in-browser (unlike PDF and most image types), so the members would have to download the file and run PowerPoint (or a 3rd-party viewer) to view it. Re: Polls
Yes you can create polls.?
Here are the options: Additional Options Allow multiple choices.
Only moderators and poll creators can view results and responders, regardless of whether the poll is open or closed.
Only display results when the poll has closed. Moderators and poll creators can always view results.
Do not show who responded to the poll.

Re: Owner message approval email notification
debihansen,
I have all the email owner notifications checked. The only restrictionOne possibility is that they're going to your Spam/Junk folder. You're looking for a message like this: Subject: Message Approval Needed - [email] posted to [yourgroup]where [email] is the posting member's email address and [yourgroup] is your group's message posting address. Hi, Shal. But found that when I tried to indent the middle line by selection, itTry using Shift+Enter to break the lines. I got a chance this rainy morning to play with it a bit and discovered two things: 1) it doesn't seem possible to edit the group description after the group is created 2) in order to get what I wanted done, one needs to: * type the line to be indented * indent it * hit shift-enter * type the next line * dedent it In particular, the shift-enter doesn't automatically take one out of the indent. I happen to edit on several MediaWiki style wikis and one thing that most of them have is a visual editor (like the description box) and also a text editor where one enters the markup (in the case of groups.io, HTML) directly and that might be a general purpose solution to various sorts of editing issues.? One can start with the visual editor, get most of it right and do a small fix or two in the plain text editor. Best, Glenn |

It certainly is generous of Mark to create an app that would generate an mbox file and to import it into a group. I hope that will still work for those with Yahoo groups. If he is still willing to import archives that would be a boon for those transferring mailman groups and those with their own mbox files from their mail readers. That is a good reason to use either Claws or Thunderbird to ensure you have your own copy of all your group's messages aver the years. There may be other mail reads that use the mbox files but these two are reliable. Actually if you export and back up your Gmail archives from Google those may also be mbox files. There is no password for the group, only for each member's account.? If that person is till a member of the group, you can delete their account.? You could also Ban that email address if you choose to.

If you're sure you have the first notification checked, "Email when there are messages needing approval.", on your subscription, then you will need to contact support to see what's going on.

Owner message approval email notification
Hi, New owner here. I have searched for an answer to not avail. I have all the email owner notifications checked. The only restriction I have is approval of the first message - but that is the only email notification I am not getting. I get new members and replies to messages, but not the one I want to get so I can readily approve it. Is there a solution?

FYI, last September, Mark has helped me import messages (in mbox format), which were exported from a groups.io group, to a new subgroup. I guess the same could be done for messages exported from a Yahoo group.
