Problems if I later decide to follow a topic
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI do not know if I ask this question in the right group, since I
ask this question as a member of a group and not as an owner, but
since Mark advised me to ask the question here, I forward my
message to this group. -------- Doorgestuurd bericht --------
Dear, In the groups I am a member of, I have set that I receive only the first message from each new topic, unless I follow the topic. Now I have created a filter in NameCheap Private Email, with the condition mailinglist contains groups.io, and as an action move to folder mailing lists. This works well, but if I follow a topic and I receive the messages that have been sent before, they will go to my inbox and not to the mailing list folder. I also noticed today that when I reply from Thunderbird to a message that was already sent, This message does not go to the list but to the sender. So it seems that with the messages sent before I followed the topic and which were later sent to me, it is not recognized that they come from a mailing list. Do you know what the problem is and can this be solved? Thanks in advance Sincerely, Artin Dekker |

Re: Default password?
Michael,
Groups.io two levels of users:You can make that distinction on the basis of a person's habitual usage, but in terms of how Groups.io works there's no difference. Or perhaps you could say that the distinction is whether the user is currently logged in and using the web site, rather than whether they may have done so at some point in the past. Having Logged in doesn't by itself change anything about the user's account (or his/her memberships/subscriptions). It merely provides them an opportunity to set a password, some preferences, and profile information. To say users can access the website without a password by using aNo, they are not. One cannot use a login-link in the same ways that one can use a password and vice-versa. Calling them the same thing is far more misleading and leads to confusions such as the GMF member who recently asked why pasting a login link into the Password field of the login page didn't work. Links are links, passwords are passwords. They are syntactically and semantically different things. There is no difference in what access they enable, ...That much is true. Both are keys to logging in - authenticating yourself to Groups.io, so that your browser session can be associated with your account and subscriptions. ... only the duration of access. Not even that. The duration of access is a property of being logged in, not how you logged in. As Duane explained, it used to be that a login lasted 30-days. That was the expiration time given to the browser cookie that associates your browser session with your account. Not too long ago Mark changed this so that visiting the site renews the cookie; so now the "duration" is 30-days from last visit. ¡®Login links¡¯ should always include the explanation that they areLogin links are much more temporary than that. They expire 60 minutes after issuance. You have that long to receive and use the link. Passwords, on the other hand, do not expire. There's nothing anyone on this list can do about this, the ball is entirely in Mark's court and the previous suggestions of writing to the support email address is the only viable route forward. Re: #membership

Rob,
I was about to do that but read that when you delete a subgroup, theI don't think that's true of subgroups, only primary groups. That is, in the form: "[email protected]"; or the alias form "[email protected]" (which is also the form used by groups which have no subgroups) only the "primary-name" is required to be unique system-wide and is reserved on deletion. Then I read someone say that if you rename a subgroup before youAgain, I think this only applies to primary group names. When you rename a group the prior name is not held in reserve. I've never used Slack so I can't help with the rest of your question. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

I have been getting that same OAUTH error message when I try to sync with Slack.? I have a clue as to what is wrong though, and was wondering if someone could confirm my theory.??
I was testing this on a new group that had no messages and at first I got that same message, then the sync seemed to be approved by Slack? ?On looking at it though, I realized I had synced the correct Slack group with the wrong Groups.io group (I have three).? ?I deleted that and then went to the correct Groups.io group - which has a subgroup - but no matter what I can't get it to reauthorize.? ?I know that when you add a subgroup it changes the url for the group so was thinking that might be the problem.? ?The first group I tested it with had no subgroups.? So easy fix right - the group has no members so just delete the subgroup and try again? ?I was about to do that but read that when you delete a subgroup, the name of that subgroup becomes unavailable for later use.? ?Then I read someone say that if you rename a subgroup before you delete it, this won't happen - but that was never verified.? Before I go deeper down the rabbit hole could someone let me know if I am on the right track.? First, is the Slack integration generally working for people here?, second is my theory about the authentication problem being related to subgroups plausible? and third, if so, will that renaming trick work before I delete the subgroup?? ?It is a common name and I would hate to lose it.? Thank you |

When setting up GMF I was inspired to use a bright (and color) photo of elephants I'd taken at the San Diego wild animal safari park - as a kind of nod to the default image and to stand in contrast to it. So naturally (apparently we both thought) elephants for the icon as well. I picked out and cropped my best shot of the juvenile elephant from that same trip to the park. Re: All posts are requiring moderation
#moderation
Nelson,
I have set my group to only require moderating posts from members whoThere isn't a setting that works as you describe. The "Moderated" checkbox causes all messages to be moderated (except from members who have an override in their subscription). The "New Users Moderated" checkbox causes members, when they join, to be given the "Override: new user moderated" in their subscription; causing their messages to be moderated even when the group's "Moderated" box is not checked. After you approve a set number of that member's messages his/her subscription is changed to "Use Group Moderation Setting". ... but now it seems that all posts are requiring moderation. That probably means you checked the "Moderated" box in the group settings. Is there a problem in the system? Not that I'm aware of. Sounds like you misunderstood what the controls do.
