I am having the same issue. I get a "Gmail return" for all posts to our io.groups forum, including my own posts.??

I haven't changed any settings, either to my own account or as a moderator. I checked to see that this was the case.
I hope Mark will re-attack this issue as it's a problem for anyone with high volumes of email. Thanks.

I know the following comment can be seen as an exercise in pedantry but I don't like it; if anyone wants to log in then more or less by definition they must use a password. IMHO the sentence above would be better if it read

1: Using this Group at any time without a password.

There is currently no way to include the thread number or message number in the subject line.

You can place your group name (or any other text you like) in the subject line. See Admin>Settings>Message Formatting>Subject Tag.

In Digest modes, a digest number is placed in the subject line, and it increments with each Digest you receive. However, this number is not group-wide; and it restarts at 1 each time to change your subscription preferences to a Digest.

Individual messages have the message number in the footer. It will say "View/Reply Online (#xxxxx)." In html emails, hovering your mouse over the View/Reply link will display the message number in the URL. Hovering over "Mute Topic" will similarly show the topic number. Plain text emails will have these URLs spelled out so you can read it.

I hope something in there helps.

Thread number in subject.

Gabriele Battaglia

Hello all and thanks for your time reading this.

There were a feature in Googlegroups which I loved a lot and I wonderf if is it possible to have it also on our Groups.io services.

This feature allows you to automatically insert the Thread number within the subject line together the Group name. For instance, the Group I'm administrating is called C4B (Chess for Blind) and I would like to have in the subject, something like:

[C4B-320] SubjectTextGoesHere.....

The "320" number could increase by 1 every new topic posted, or, at least, every message posted.

Do you think is it possible?

I know that information appear within the segnature, footpage, but after a long thread it's hard to visualize. It would be better, at least to me, to have it within the subject line.

Thanks and have a great day all of you guys.

Re: Logging In and Setting a password

Bob,

Wow Shal, none of my group would have the patience to work with that.
They are mostly anywhere from 50 to the low 90s and want simplicity.
Yeah, well that's why I've often said that it is better to skip on telling people to set a password. But I understand the rebuttal that people are used to working with sites that have passwords and that a password is "simpler" for non-geeks to use than the email link.

A matter of perspective I suppose.

Also, I felt a need to document and explain somewhere what a login is all about, and how it works. Possibly that's TMI for a page that bills itself as a Quick-Start Guide. I could see an argument that such detail
should go back in the Advice section.

1. Logging in to this group any time without a password.
I like it.

If you'll permit me to copy and edit yours and I'll make that an entry in Quick Start. Or if you'd be willing to do it better still.

What do you think of my use of screen shots - do you think they help clarify the instructions or do they make the instructions seem longer and more complicated?

The first thing you should do is to Bookmark that page in your
Internet Browser so you don't have to go through all of the above crap
again
This line leaves me wondering "what page"? Bookmarking the Login page doesn't seem to short-cut anything. Bookmarking your group's home page or anything else wouldn't seem to help if they've let their login expire.

Go to groups.io on your device using your browser on ANY internet enabled device.

  1. Use this link in your browser ?/login
  2. On that page click on the button that says ?"Email me a link to log in" ?
Monitor your email because a special link will be set to the email address you signed up to this group with.
  3. When you get the email on your device, Click on the link or copy and paste it into your Internet browser
You should ?be taken to a web page where you can see a link to this group.
  4. Note: this process provides you with "free" login to this group for 30 days.? You can repeat it as many times as you wish.

The first thing you should do is to Bookmark that page in your Internet Browser so you don't have to go through all of the above crap again

Logging In and Setting a password

I took a substantial whack at the Logging in part of the page, and moved the link to it into the Quick-Start Guide section, since it seems more like introductory material now.

I'd like to shorten the title, but I think I'll wait and see if there's any action toward permalinks before I do.

Re: Default password?

Michael,

Help links that are temporary are sort of a 'moving target' - that
makes them problematic to include in a Member Notices message, which
can be automatically sent to new users who are most likely to need the
information.

The links should be permanent for the same subject(s) that still needs
addressing, only the explanation should be updated. Misnamed Wikis
should contain a link (or links) to its/their replacement.
I agree in principle. In practice this page needed splitting. So I've put up a replacement for the original page, linking to the two new ones.

Permanent links would be more helpful for users, ...
I've wished before that Wiki pages (and other content) have permalinks, equivalent to the message numbers (link icon on the right side when you view a message on-site). Just as with messages, a simple serial number that is never re-used would be perfect. I've now reiterated that old request:

Re: Taking Polls

I took a bash at creating a wiki page about polls. Moderators, can you decide on placement in the main menu? I put it in Web Features. (Of course the search box in the wiki will find it, but I like things to be logical - it's the librarian in me!)

Re: Gmail warning #email #gmail

Martin,

Gmail gives me an option to say it "looks safe" but the next message
gets treated the same. I wonder whether this one will?
They all will.

As Duane said, this problem cropped up a few weeks ago with Gmail and Groups.io made a change to work around it.

I'm guessing that the work-around isn't working for you because Groups.io doesn't recognize your email domain as actually being serviced by Gmail (that's an expected problem with custom domains).

I'd suggest sending a note to [email protected] asking that your domain be added to the Gmail work-around. I don't know if they're keeping a list of additional domains, but that seems like the only solution to me.

Re: Transfer Yahoo Group #transfer

Richard,

When I click on "Existing Transfers" it says GPDA@...
(needs you attention). I'm not sure what this means.
It generally means that the transfer agent is waiting for you to do something or answer a question.

If you click on that entry in the list it should open a status page, which will have a text box at the top that hopefully explains the issue.

If that's not informative look also for an email message from [email protected] in your Inbox, or Spam, or wherever your email service may have delivered it. That message will probably tell you what the issue is.

I had that happen in one of my groups, and the issue was that the photo storage in my Yahoo Group exceeded the 1 GB total allowed for my (Basic) Groups.io group. The transfer agent asked if I wanted to apply a re-sizing upper bound to the images to bring their total under the limit, or if I wanted to upgrade to Premium, or what. I replied to the agent to apply a resizing to the photos and that resolved the issue.

That's just an example, your group's issue may be something else.

If the status page doesn't explain what's needed, and you can't find a message from the transfer agent try sending a message to [email protected] to explain the situation and ask them to re-send the information you need.

folder mailing lists. This works well, but if I follow a topic and I
receive the messages that have been sent before, they will go to my

Interesting. It implies that the "catch-up" messages are not marked with the Mailing-List header field.

As a work-around check the To field: normal group postings are sent out as To the group posting address, if the catch-up messages are also you could use that for your filter instead.

I also noticed today that when I reply from Thunderbird to a message
that was already sent, This message does not go to the list but to the
sender.
Hm... This implies the catch-up messages are also not marked with the Reply-To field, which normally reflects the group's Reply To setting.

I guess your work-around would be to manually replace the sender's address with the group posting address in your reply.

So it seems that with the messages sent before I followed the topic
and which were later sent to me, it is not recognized that they come
from a mailing list. Do you know what the problem is ...
I believe you've identified the problem (they are not given the usual outbound list header fields).

... and can this be solved?
Apart from the work-arounds, putting the "proper" fields in the header of those messages would be something for either support, or for the beta group (Groups.io's official "suggestion box").

I don't normally use the Following Only subscription option so I've not run into this. It is possible that the lack of these header fields was previously discussed in beta, maybe you can search for that topic there to see if there's a reason for it, or if adding them is something that should be suggested.
