Re: Direct Adding to a subgroup
Thanks Bruce, WelcomeSent automatically to members who join an unrestricted group, or whose membership in a restricted group has been approved. A Welcome notice is always sent to new members. If the group has not created and activated a custom notice, we activate and send a default. Direct AddMessage sent when a moderator direct-adds someone to a premium or enterprise group. The active notice, if any, is used as the initial text and can be edited for one-time use during the Direct Add process. A Direct Add notice is always sent; if the group has not created and activated a custom notice, we activate and use a default. |

Lance, Also, this is not unique to this one email.? This has happened to other "original" emails where the replies are not making it to "some" members.? It is to be determined if the same members from each group are consistently "not getting" and "getting" emails, respectively. One likelihood is that some of your members are using email services which are redirecting some messages to the member's Spam folder (or to Trash), rather than to their Inbox. I don't know of any reason that would be more likely to occur with a reply than with an original posting, but spam filters are sometimes fickle things. It is also possible for a member to choose Following Only plus First Message Also in the Advanced Preferences section of their Subscription page. This would cause the behavior of receiving original posts but not replies. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: from "email via Groups.io"

Lance, Screenshots added.? Original email was sent to all members of group.? A reply to any of those four messages should have gone to the group. Did the reply arrive at the group's Messages list, or Pending approval list?
Do you need instructions on how to tell if it did? Replies only made it to "some" members. "Some" is not a particularly informative number. Whether a given member receives a copy of a reply sent to the group depends on that member's subscription settings, which may be other than Individual, All messages. So I have to assume that by "some" you mean that at least one person who you believe ought to have received the reply didn't. If it was only one such person can you characterize that person? Was it the person who sent the reply, the person who sent the original post? Someone else? Or, if by "some" you mean that exactly one person received the reply that would indicate a different kind of problem: that the person doing the reply sent the reply to that individual rather than the group. That individual would most likely be the sender of the original message. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Direct Adding to a subgroup
Thanks Bruce,
Yep, in the correct subgroup, direct add notice, Active Message is checked. Have updated, closed Chrome window, came back in, and it is still set up the way I expected. I have even deleted it and set up a new one with no luck. I'm missing something stupid I'm sure. But - the question then becomes - for a subgroup when is the welcome message sent vs. when is the direct add message sent? I have tried both with no success. I thought I understood, but maybe not. Thanks Beth? |

Direct Adding to a subgroup
One of my moderators has created a subgroup, set various settings, and used the direct add feature to add members.? The new members did not receive a welcome letter which makes sense after I thought about it. We did not have a direct add notice set up so the members were not notified about their addition.? I have added a direct add notice and then direct added a member; still no email welcoming them to the group.? I can tell by the activity log; examples below:
Direct added to main: ?added??with message "We have added you to the CPgroup in groups.io......... Direct added to subgroup: ?added??via web Any ideas what we could have set incorrectly to not send a message of some sort? Thanks Beth |

Yes, I did check the delivery history - the address is/was not in a bouncing status. But, the message did show up a day later than the message to my other email address, so you were on target with your other idea! Thanks so much for your response! ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLance,Our group has been fine for the last 9 months without issue. This turn just recently was noticed and seems to be associated with the recent Gmail issue. We need more information to understand your issue. What portion of the group does and does not receive the message? And does the message appear in your group's Messages section? The change made recently to avoid the Gmail warning affects only messages posted by a Gmail-using member when the message is sent back to that member. Other members should see no change. There should be no effect on the replies, whether by email or by the group's messages section. If you have an example of a message "gone wrong" please use the Show details function (down arrow after the To name) in Gmail's interface to show the from and reply-to fields: Either screen shot it or copy it exactly and report what you see here. You can omit the person's email address for privacy. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

It is quite disconcerting when a portion of the group receives messages and others do not?? |

This setting affects the "reply-to" field in outgoing message headers. If it is set to Sender, what you describe is normal behavior. If you want replies to go to the entire group, make sure it is set to Group. It's also possible that some of your subscriber's email clients do not properly parse message headers, and will address replies to the "From:" address instead of using "Reply-To." How to fix this depends on the client, but in my experience when this problem occurs with "via groups.io" addressing the client fails with an "invalid address" error and the message does not go out at all. I hope something in there helps. Bruce? -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Adding a File to a newly created group
WVSA Admin
Hi,
I am new to groups.io. I just created 2 groups for my nonprofit, but am having problems uploading files. When I go to the "Files" tab on the left, both the "New Folder" and "Upload File" tabs are not highlighted where I can click on them. Where do I go to give myself (and additional people) these permissions? Thank you, Robin |
owner not receiving notifications
Hello all. Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I just cannot keep up with the volume of messages.
Today I was on the website of one of my groups and noted that yesterday a member left the group. The notification was in the group activity section, but I never received an email notification to one of my email addresses - I have multiple email addresses listed as owners, and one of them did get the notification. I checked the settings, and both email addresses, the one that got the notification, and the one that did not, have exactly the same boxes checked, including notifications in the event someone leaves the group. I have also checked the spam folder and the message did not end up there. I am still receiving group messages to the email address in question. So, is this just a one time (I hope!) glitch that I should just monitor and only worry about if it becomes an always event, or is there something I can do now to be proactive? Thanks for any advice and/or help! Patti |

Also, it appears that a similar issue is occurring when a person (who usually has the from name as?"email" via Groups.io) replies to a "regularly formatted email" - their reply is not broadcast to the group.
