Thanks Bruce,
I read that section in help, and it explains what each is:
Welcome
Sent automatically to members who join an unrestricted group, or whose membership in a restricted group has been approved. A Welcome notice is always sent to new members. If the group has not created and activated a custom notice, we activate and send a default.
Direct Add
Message sent when a moderator direct-adds someone to a premium or enterprise group. The active notice, if any, is used as the initial text and can be edited for one-time use during the Direct Add process. A Direct Add notice is always sent; if the group has not created and activated a custom notice, we activate and use a default.
but why would you want both messages? You can't invite someone to a subgroup that I know of so making one or the other active seems like enough.??
And - if I can't use the activity log to prove that a message was sent then I can't prove that the new members received a welcome message which was my original issue.? The moderator set up a subgroup, had a welcome letter active, and the new members did not receive an email according to the moderator. Somehow I created and deleted enough notices to kick it to the point of working, but I don't know what to tell her for when she creates another group.
