Styling for the RSVP responses content allows very little room for display of response content, such that the content is truncated with an ellipsis (the full content is there in the HTML source). There is no way to drill down into an individual response to view all its content.
I am unable to replicate this problem (that was posted back in early October). Can you send a screenshot? Have you subsequently figured out a work-around??What happens if you click on the ellipsis? Note that an ellipsis in message display is clickable and will expand to show hidden content (usually a quote).?

I have not personally used this functionality of the calendar. If you don't get any further responses here you might have more luck posting in.?

Same problem.? And yes, it is NOT an elegant solution to have to save the page as HTML to read the messages!

Re: Question [about learning how to run a group]

Kaiala,

I was wondering if there is such a thing as a PDF file of something that a newbie, especially with IO, can get to read to get a heads up of what to do, when to do it to work at opening and maintaining a good group that functions well.

As Duane said, GMF's wiki is intended to be a good place to start; most of its content came about from questions other people have asked. Don't worry too much about topics you don't need or understand, they may not fit your situation or the nature of your group(s).

There are two aspects to running a group well. One we can call the "mechanics" of the job - knowing how to use the site's features and controls to do the things you need to do. The other is managing the members - dealing with questions, conflicts, and other issues that come up.

The first thing to recognize is that there are many different types of groups. Many groups are "discussion" groups (like this one), where all members are invited to start new topics and reply to other member's topics. Other groups are more like classified ads, where members are invited to post new topics, but replies go off-list (directly to the sender of the post). I've only scratched the surface, but the take-away is that you may need to tell us a little about the nature of the group(s) as context for your questions.

I'd suggest starting with the Wiki on this group, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/home.? Then if you have specific questions, we're all here to help.

Question [about learning how to run a group]

Hello
I just recently assumed responsibility for a few groups for someone until they return after some health issues are taken care of.
Also I am thinking about starting a couple groups of my own.
I was wondering if there is such a thing as a PDF file of something that a newbie, especially with IO, can get to read to get a heads up of what to do, when to do it to work at opening and maintaining a good group that functions well.
Any and all information would certainly be appreciated.
I am 67 and would like to do this as painlessly as possible. LOL.
?
Thank you
Kaiala

Re: [email protected] not working for me

I have no idea what has happened but after sending an email to the support desk (no reply by the way) I received an email overnight stating that the transfer has gone through. So head scratching time, however it now appears that everything is ok.
So the question I ask now is what page is shown after you press the green button to continue the transfer?
Thanks one and all.

Re: Gmail Spam Warning on Groups IO messages

Tom,

Funny, but I just got a digest from this group and it was labeled as a scam in Thunderbird.

I see that warning on list messages from time to time, I don't recall if I've seen it with anything from Groups.io though.

What does Thunderbird use to make this determination? Anyone know?

It probably has to do with the nature of the links, either in the Digest structure or in one or more of the contained messages. See for more information.

Re: Mail not Going through

Thanks for that information but I don't use the message page for posting messages.
?
We treat the group as an email based group only and posts are generated from mine and the members email client.
?
I use my email only because I?share lots of graphics and attachments and what I was actually sending?in this time was Assorted Graphics to share with my group from my Incredimail Style box while I was sorting it.
?
But that is good to know for maybe another time.

I just resent it changing the subject line and it went through okay.
Ilene -- You could also have posted the message online using the "New Topic" button. If you do that, groups.io knows that you intended to start a new thread, even though it might have the same subject line.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Avoiding-threading-topics---threading-algorithm?for more information on how groups.io threads messages.

Ilene,?

You can lock topics or set them to moderate (in an unmoderated group). I did that once by mistake. Go to your group homepage, click on Messages. Click on the little down arrow by the date for the message. This is where you can change the status for the topic.?

Okay I think I know what might have happened.
I have another message that is using the same subject line.
I will try sending it with another subject line and see what happens.

Could that be the reason? Ilene

Calendar Cancellations Not Sending Updates #calendar #issue

I feel I've suddenly?turned into "That Guy" with all the questions I've been posting. :-{

A little over a week ago I moved ~50 weekly meetings for my community over to groups.io from my arch nemesis G-Cal.
There has been a huge gotcha regarding meeting cancellations however.? When meetings are deleted (cancelled) from a subgroup calendar it is indeed removed for the calendar, however no notifications are being sent that the meeting has been cancelled.

I've tried checking `Send Invite To Group` and `Send Notice To Group When Event Happens` when processing a cancellation, but no one is receiving anything.

Any ideas? Known issue? User-is-stupid error? Suggested work-around(s)??

Re: Chat Persistence and Search-ability? #chats #question

So here is my usecase: I'm looking at groups.io chat as a possible solution for a global community of opensource developers, many of which are behind national firewalls and cannot get access to other IM systems.?

  • Chat sessions would be long running - a minimum of a 6 month release cycle.
  • Thousands to tens-of-thousands of exchanges for most subgroups over the course of the year.?
  • Only subgroup moderators would be able to create new chat sessions.
  • They must be publicly searchable.
  • They would be need to be retained as searchable even if locked and no longer active.
  • Chat sessions would only be deleted if they were created in error.
For?the native search function within the browser to work as @Duane mentioned, it would imply the entire contents of every chat is read in whenever chat window is opened. Am I misinterpreting that?? If true it seems like it could cause some performance issues.?

Partial mitigation may be to start a new chat session with every release and locking the old one, but not sure if that would be sufficient to ease the perceived issue.
Thoughts anyone?
