Re: bouncing

Not that simple Mike. If a carrier, like Cox, is bouncing or blocking messages from groups.io then the person needing the ¡®link¡¯ won¡¯t get it.? This IS very frustrating.? Right now I have 274 bouncing members out of about 2,100 subscribers or over 10%---the majority are COX customers because Cox feels groups.io is ¡®spamming¡¯ them. I sent two hours on the phone with Cox Tier 2 Date people today and it is taking them a LONG time to escalate this issue.? I have had SOME success by unsubscribing then resubscribing some of the bouncing members, but it doesn¡¯t work on all of them and it takes a LOT of my time.? Seems like there would be some type of communication between groups.io and the bigger carriers like Cox so we wouldn¡¯t suffer through this, but obviously it must not be that simple.

I know there have been some messages here on bouncing. I just had 4 members who are bouncing.
I just wanted to know if something is going on that is making them bounce like this. It is hard to explain to this older members how to unbounce themselves.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Anita?

Re: file uploading #files

Under Admin > Settings, scroll down to the Features section near the bottom.? In the Files area, change the Permissions drop down to "Subscribers can view and upload", then scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Update Group".

file uploading #files

Hello,

We just switched to groups.io from Yahoo. The files transferred fantastically! I looked in the help section and didn't find any info on uploading files. Why can owners upload easily and members cannot? Do we need to make all 20 members owners to be able to upload and move files?

Thank you,

Laura

help -- lost 2FA key

I am the sole owner/admin of a groups.io group (radioastronomy-hams as ewing@...).? I set up two-factor authentication on my account, which was working fine for some time.? But then, my cell phone self-destructed and I could not find a way to recover my Google Authenticator keys.? Of course, foolishly, I had not created backup codes.

So now my account and my group are stranded.? I am the owner, and I have the password, but I can't log in to that account.? How can I re-establish my connection to my account?? (Or claim the ownership of the group using an alternate email address?)

Very sorry!

Re: Mass delete members

Under Admin > Members, there's a Bulk Remove button at the top. That will take you to a page where you can upload a file of the email addresses that you want to remove.? It will need to be a plain text file with one address per line.

Mass delete members

i need to delete a couple hundred members from my group, currently in a spreadsheet of email addresses. Is there an easy way to do this or must I do each one individually?

#calendar #subscription Google Calendar Not Receiving Updates To A Subscribed Calendar #calendar #subscription

After subscribing to a groups.io calendar from g-cal, I was dancing a little jig of joy as it addresses a number of challenges I'm having with my community.
That was dance was cut short when I discovered that?I am not seeing any changes to any groups.io calendar being reflected in g-cal after the initial subscription.
Meanwhile, subscriptions were working fine in Confluence and the native calendar app on my Mac., both of which were updating as expected.

After poking around a bit it seems that Google Calendar may only sync with a subscription every 12 to 24 hours. The only way to force a refresh is to unsubscribe/resubscribe, which is at best an unworkable work-around for a dynamic community.?

Anyone know if there is any other way around this?

Thanks.

Re: How do you get messages in your group to reply to sender? #bug

my group is set to reply to group and sender.? when i want to reply to both, i choose that option. if i want to reply only to the sender, i choose that option. my subscribers (some of them) seem to not have the option to make the reply private and often send replies to the group and sender when it should only go to the sender.? do i have the option because i'm a moderator?? or is it simply user error?

Go to Admin>Settings>Message Formatting>Subject Tag and change it to whatever you want.

For example, the Subject Tag for GroupManagersForum is [GMF].

Hope this helps,

I have thought of changing the group name. Is there any other option?

Thanks!

Re: what to do about group owners and abuse

Hey Marvin,

Let me toss in my 2? worth here . . .

With the problems you describe why not start up your own group covering the same or a similar topic?

That sounds like an easy way to be able to interact with folks of similar interests.

Just FWIW . . .

Marvin, this thread sounds very much like the one you initiated back in May. If so, it's unfortunate, but the ultimate answer is unchanged -- find some other groups to participate in, and refrain from engaging this group owner that you cannot get along with.

Hi. well he banned me from all his groups, and yes did that via gmail. Might report him to gmail. But don¡¯t want any more grief. Says he would then report me to my police in Australia.

Re: mail problems after transfer from Yahoo groups #post-transfer #yahoo

Thanks, Shal.

She didn't phrase that very well. In conversation with her, I was better able to understand what she was saying. Apparently, whenever she tried to send email from her Yahoo mail account -- NOT just to [email protected] -- she got that "unknown address" error.

That may not have been a kindness. That is, any content (files, photos, etc) she had uploaded to the Yahoo Group would have transferred over connected to her Yahoo Mail address; meaning that she would retain the ability to edit or delete them, as long as she logged in to Groups.io with the Yahoo Mail address
Her better move would have been to log in with the Yahoo Mail address, and in its Account page change its address to her new preferred address. I think that would change the ownership of her content to the new address.

Yes, that's what I wanted to do, but unfortunately, she had already subscribed with an alternate email, and then other stuff. Fortunately, I doubt that she will want to do that.

Interestingly, her ability to send email from her Yahoo mail addy returned as soon as I deleted her @yahoo subscription from our group. Bizarre.

We have other subscribers with yahoo email who have NOT experienced this problem, though.

If you are referring to the "Top Hashtags" display, I don't think there's any way to disable it. A "disable hashtags" group setting in the Message Policies section would be a good suggestion for beta.

Re: Missing footers

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks everyone for your advice.? I've got sample emails, but am not sure how they would help...they really don't have a footer...

?

I suspect it's as you suspect...that's she's got a space problem (she just told me this morning that she was bouncing) or a spam problem (and, unfortunately, she doesn't really understand what her options are here.)???

Janet,

?

?

I have a member who went through the automatic unsub process and clicked the link to get back into the group.? Since then, though, she's not getting many messages ...

?

Sounds like the behavior of a spam filter. She should check the webmail interface of her email service provider to see if more messages have been diverted to her Spam folder. If any are found there mark them as "Not Spam".

?

?

... and those that she is getting have no footer.?

?

Except that bit.

?

Even if someone in the group is sending direct messages to her (via the site) I think there is still a minimal footer.

?

Are these footer-less messages replies to something she posted? It is possible that your group is set to reply to? Group and Sender or that some members are using Reply All in their email interface. In either of those cases the reply direct to her would be without footers.
