Re: Lost Group
Thank you all for attempting to help solve this mystery. It turned out to be a false alarm for which I apologize. We finally discovered that the owner of the group in question had confused this Groups IO account with another testing account that was given our organization's nickname. I figured it out when I went back to this testing account (which we all could see and access) and discovered I had become a co-owner where previously I'd been a Moderator. The owner of the group in question then confirmed that they were the only member in the account we were all trying to figure out.

The check box can't be disabled, but all other columns can.? Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the identifier of the column you don't want to see.? The page will refresh and you can hide other columns.? Unfortunately, at this time your choices aren't remembered, so you need to go through this each time you open a database.? There are also plans to put the control buttons at the top of the page, but no deadline given.

I've written a new wiki page documenting some of the peculiarities I've encountered in the photo search functionality that was recently added to groups.io.

Re: More help with photo album, please
I think I requested something similar a while back as well:? To be able to have the option at the individual user level for each list, to set the Sort option for Photos & Files, as Yahoo Groups has.? Especially the Photos section.? To have the option to set it to whatever option you prefer, both at the top "Photos" level, as well as the sort option within an album.? Most folks on my lists would prefer to have the default sort option to be Posted, most recent from within a photo album.? As well as have a Photostream option, too.? Hoping that happens sooner rather than later.

Re: Mysterious Email Problem
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFor what it¡¯s worth Don, you are not alone in your problem, although mine is an Australian ISP. Many of my messages to and from my own group are delayed exactly 2 hours, they are held up at a sub server which checks for spam (I¡¯ve checked this on the header analysis site, always held up at the same place). Something in the headers triggers this Spam alert, yet another email sent almost immediately afterwards will get through immediately. On other occasions messages I have sent do not get delivered EVER, although they show as Sent in both my mail program (Outlook 2016) and on my webmail, which is set to IMAP¡ and very strangely, when I resend the exact same email (I have just clicked on Forward on it in the Sent Box) usually goes through without a hitch 24 hours later. I have been battling with my ISP for over 5 months, they say there is nothing wrong at their end. At their request I changed from Windows Live Mail to Outlook 2016, this did not make a scrap of difference. This past 10 days, I was a little smarter and pasted every delayed mail header in to Word. I also put in ?screen captures of where the ¡°disappeared¡± emails shows as Sent in my IMAP webmail. Each of those show a strange blue curving arrow beside it, it is only beside the ¡°disappeared¡± emails.? When I was speaking AGAIN to the ISP¡¯s tech support, I sent those docs to the person? at the other end of the phone. She agreed that it ¡°shouldn¡¯t be happening¡± and has opened up what she called an ETS¡ meaning she sent my problem with the documents to a different internal section which checks the servers.. ¡°passing it up the line¡±. I don¡¯t know how long this will take for them to check it out and hopefully resolve the problem. Maybe it is something in your mail program (although mine has been checked many times), but it is more than likely something similar to a spam checking server problem. Stick with it, get in touch with the ISP¡ supply documentation if possible¡ and do not let them fob you off¡ if you can prove that it is held up at the same place, they will HAVE to check it out, but don¡¯t hold your breath while waiting¡ lol. One thing I noted, I don¡¯t know if this applies to you¡ pretty well every disappeared email had an attachment of a graphic, but they are not large files, the biggest would have been less than 400 KB. The delayed emails mostly have a very small jpg inserted in to the body of the email¡ every email is HTML.. I hope this may give you a direction to consider¡ and I wish you good luck in resolving your problem. In desperation, I have told them that if they can¡¯t fix the problem, I will pass it on to the Telecommunication Ombudsman Win ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of dgrass1@... ? I'm still going to contact my ISP, but I thought I would update this slow down of emails using the analyzer. |

OK there might be a few who genuinely have difficulty with it, but I suspect that for the majority of refuseniks that isn't the case. Chris |
Re: Question about Activity and Message Search
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane -- Yep. All messages in my group that pre-date the transfer show up as having been posted on the transfer date...in the ACTIVITY LOG. Re: Automatic logout 30-days after login
Going back to the original analogy, I have a 16 year old car and my fob stopped working 2 years ago. I can still get into my car with the key, but f don't turn on the car within 10 seconds, my alarm goes off. Usually, I make it. When I don't, my neighbors hear a loud noise. I paid for the car 16 years ago. I don't feel that I should have to pay $450 now to get into my car, but that is what a replacement for costs.
My members have accepted that some of them are not able to login without the hassle of getting a new cookie or password. They feel inadequate, and some feel I'm inadequate for not making it easier. They are users of my site within this host. The benefits of using gio outweigh the problem. But I wish my paying group had what some members would like so that they could be part of the group, instead of just receivers of emails. |
Re: Adding Display Names to email address in the members list
One thing I just found out last night:?
If you have subgroups, change the display name in main; it will populate to the subgroups which do not have a display field to edit.? I did have one instance where the display name was different in one of the subgroups than the others, but when I changed the name in main, it correctly populated in the subgroups.? I then changed the name in main back to what it needed to be, and the changes occurred in the subgroups too. Beth |

For the group I moderate a fully indexed system would be more appropriate, and I am working up a suggestion to post on beta, but it is taking time to make its capabilities have the widest possible appeal. Although an indexed system does mean more work for moderators to set it up initially, the result is an archive where members can find what they want using an alphabetic index, which seems (to me anyway) the optimum solution. I have created a working index for our group, but because the photo archive has no mechanism for an index it has to reside in ourgroup wiki, which is not ideal. I'll try to finish the proposal sooner rather than later and give it an airing on GMF before suggesting it to Mark via beta. Chris |

Re: Group Moderation Setting
#moderation
#addmembers
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýCameron,However, it appears that we should be able to set the "Group Moderation Setting" to make this the default for the group. Yes, I strongly recommend this method over ever setting anyone to Override: not moderated. Unfortunately, I am unable to find where I can change this setting. On the group's Settings page, in the Spam Control section. There's a checkbox for Moderated. This will control posting by any member that doesn't have an override set. If your group has the Restricted Membership box checked then unchecking Moderated is all you need to do. If you don't want Restricted Membership, you can check New Users Moderated instead. Then you can manually change new members to Use Group Moderation Setting to immediately unmoderate them. Or, set Unmoderate After to 1 and simply approve each new member's first post. That will automatically change them from Override: new user moderated to Use Group Moderation Setting, and is generally much less effort than manually changing them. Note: Moderated and New Users Moderated are not mutually exclusive. You can leave New Users Moderated checked as your group's normal state and you are free to check and uncheck Moderated at need (e.g. to quell a flame war or other disturbance) without accidentally unmoderating all the new users. Re: Automatic logout 30-days after login
Jim,
But a bit of research shows that with cookies deleted, visiting a GioAh, so that's the missing factor. Now the confusion makes more sense to me. Kind of ironic, given that GMF has public archives - but most of the time I'm going on site it is to access the Pending list. Which I do either through a link in the notice or by clicking on a pinned tab in my browser (which is almost always open to GMF's Pending list). Given the cause, I don't see a 100% cure for this problem.I don't know if it is readily possible for the page you land on to determine that you were previously at a page while logged in, and then put up the kind of banner Bruce suggested. I wouldn't want it to be there for people who are just visiting (were not previously logged in). /g/GroupManagersForum/message/12579 Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses
Jim,
It sure looks to me like upon initial sign up one can set a passwordTrue, but having done so your account is NC (Not Confirmed) until you receive and respond to an email verification request. In NC status you don't receive group messages by email, and you can't access any members-only group pages - only public pages and your Account pages. Maybe your Subscription page as well. So again, if you are having difficulty getting messages at that address, you are fairly well stuck. More help with photo album, please
When looking at an album I recently posted I see that the photos are in Title order. Each time I try to change this to "Sort by taken" my instruction is ignored and "Sort by posted" appears. The default always reverts back to "Default by name" i.e. alphabetically. Sort by date taken is the best/most logical order to me. Thank you, Barbara |
