Re: Problem with uploading Files

Thank you, Chris. ?Sorry I didn¡¯t continue on with the thread. I was just trying to shorten the emails. I was able to work through the problem with Bruce¡¯s help, which was very much appreciated. ?Turns out it was a storage problem because of very large photo files pulled over from Yahoo, and I learned a lot in fixing the situation. Very grateful for all you do. Anita?

Anita; I don't want to appear "picky" but why have you started a new thread rather than follow on from Bruce's posting when he wrote:

It does sound like you are out of storage space. You might want to check out the wiki entry at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos?before proceeding further. It provides information on how to find out how much space is being used and what to do about it. If you have any further questions we will still be here to assist!

Have you followed his suggestion about checking the storage space available to you?

A further suggestion to consider; you state that you are the Group Owner; do you have a second membership as an "ordinary" member, and if so are you erroneously trying to use that membership to carry out uploads?

Chris

Re: TWO QUESTIONS #howto

Yes, I believe that a member would get private email regardless of their email settings.
?
The help page says:

No Email?(not available in all groups) sends no posted messages to you by email. You may still receive individual notifications from the group and/or from?.

INDIVIDUAL RESPONSE BACK

Ellen Bourne

Today, my group is finally getting on board with Groups.io distribution list.? There was an email today to the subgroup called members.? ?When I tried along with two others to respond to sender I received the first sender that responded so as a last resort I had to respond to the entire group which I did not want to do.

Can you tell me how we could avoid that.

Re: TWO QUESTIONS #howto

Am I right in my assumption that private replies get sent to the member's email regardless of their email settings? (I'm thinking of members who have selected "no email").

Thanks

Just checking that I can get through with this email address. If it works OK I will unsubscribe the other one.

Thanks again for the advice.

I have just joined under another email address. If this works OK I will unsubscribe my other address.

I thought that there must be some way to do it. The advice was appreciated.

I have several email addresses that I use for different purposes. For example, some are for Amateur Radio topics and others for more general ones. I am in several groups in Groups.io for different topics like that.

How can I set my messages to come to different email addresses for each of my various groups? At present they all come to the same one which clogs that inbox and ignores the others.
Not exactly what you asked about, but... I have all my messages from multiple groups sent to a single email address and let my email client filter them into mailboxes based on the "List-Id:" field in the message headers.

Thanks. I now think I understand the process.

I will apply to join this group again under another email address and when, and if, that is approved I will unsubscribe from this one.

Re: Email addresses

My recommendation would be to have one account/email on groups.io subscribed to all the groups and use filters in your email program to forward each group's messages.
With the aliases set, you can reply to a forwarded email and it will be posted to the appropriate group.?
I've not tried this but seems like it would work.? In Gmail forwarding, the from:/to: in the forwarded message are the same as the original, so a reply would go back to the groups.io group.? YMMV.

Something else to keep in mind is that the groups.io login cookie applies to only one account; there is no capability to maintain multiple logins within a single web browser. When you click on "Your Groups" at upper left, only the ones associated with the email address that happens to be logged in at the time will show up. So as you change groups online, you will be forced to change logins as well. I hope that made sense.

If you do most of your interaction with groups.io via email, this may not be objectionable. If you use the web interface a lot, you may want to rethink the convenience factor of the multiple-email-address approach.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

*To avoid the login confusion, instead of unsubbing the old address, you could instead set that subscription to "No Email," and maintain two (or more) subscriptions to every group (if the Owners will let you). But this creates its own issues, which I will not attempt to explore further. My brain already hurts.?

I will remember that for new groups that I join.

Is there a method to change my email address for some of the groups that I am already in?

Re: reply to post contains original message

It depends on whether you're replying online or by email.? Online instructions also depend on which Preference you have set for your account.? Email instructions will depend on your client settings/functions, so you should look around online for those.

It's really not since that's the way it's designed.? As has been mentioned, you can try convincing Mark otherwise on the beta group, but I doubt anything will change there.? You might suggest that status (NC) be included in the notification email, but I don't know how involved that would be.

reply to post contains original message

I tried and tried to browse through past posts here before sending this inquiry, seriously, I did.

On my own group, sometimes I accidentally get an original post to appear in the body of a reply I'm composing. ?But I don't know how I'm doing it.

I would like to do it more often. ?What's the trick?

As always, I appreciate your help, thanks bunches.

It is easy to do that in Yahoo groups but I have not found a method to do that here. I have set an alias email address but that does not seem to help.

Received from Shal...

The argument for making the web joiner visible to the group moderators early in the process is so that the mods can help him/her complete his/her subscription if necessary. It is only if the web joiner does not promptly confirms his/her email address that the group mods are likely to see him/her in the NC state.
I can see some sense to that... but I receive sub requests at my home email address and approve them via email. I shouldn't be able to approve a request via email (or via web for that matter) while the email address remains unconfirmed... and the notification I get at my home email address doesn't mention whether it's confirmed or not. I assumed it was confirmed until I found a member I approved via email with the "NC" tag. that seems like a bug to me.

Re: spectrum and groups.io.

I have a couple of addresses on my own domain that I have given me absolutely no problems.? I use Thunderbird as an email client and bring all my mail (my domain addresses, as well as my verizon account) into and use a filter to separate them all into folders.? Since AOL handles my Verizon mail, I have to keep a fairly frequent check on that spam folder, but mail from the domain accounts comes through fine.
