Split Group For Transfer?
I have a group where the combined size of files and photos exceed the allotment on groups.io.? Can I split the group into two separate transfers with one keeping the old group name and the other being the photos transferred to something like old group-photos?

Re: Attached Picture Not In Emailed Photos.
Don,
?
Yep, that's it.
?
?
That confirms that the image was embedded using the cid: (content id) scheme.
?
?
Yes, that heading describes the image file, attached to the message with the image content encoded below that point. Note the Content-ID marker. If there were more than one image in the message body each would be identified by its own unique Content-ID.
?
All of this seems perfectly normal, so I still have no clue why this image would not appear in the group's Emailed Photos folder. Possibly it has to do with how the email interface constructed or nested the MIME parts that hold the text/plain (if any), text/HTML, and the image/jpeg portions of the message. You (wisely) didn't post the entire message source, so I can't see the fields that would tell me about that.
Maybe you should report this to [email protected], including the group name and message number. Shal

We're looking at transferring our members-only UK-based Yahoo newsgroup to a new Group.io newsgroup.? Our society set up the newsgroup many years ago.?
With the new?General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force in May this year I am concerned that the members did not each give us their express permission to use there data from the Yahoo newsgroup to use ona new groups.io platform.? Has anyone had any experience or legal advice on whether we can transfer their info to the Groups.io forum without first obtaining there express permission to do so? Thanks |

I'm looking to transfer our Yahoo newsgroup to Groups.io.? It seems so much better that Yahoo. For one,it actually works!.? I particularly like the integration with Facebook. I have one query though.? When I post a test message on our facebook page, it takes over a hour to get to my test group.io page.? Is this normal?? Is there any way of speeding this up?
Thanks |
Re: Attached Picture Not In Emailed Photos.
Don, The picture does show in the groups message, and I think as an attachment. Here's an example with images sent as part of the message body, using the cid: scheme (image file attached to the message). Note that the images appear inline with the message text, and also in the Emailed Photos album. This is pretty much the "normal", or at least most common, embedded format: Here's an example with images sent as attached files. Notice that the images appear as thumbnails below the message body and you can click on them to see them full size (or depending on your browser settings, download them). These too appear in the Emailed Photos album: I copied the element using Google Chrome as the browser to inspect element. Yeah, that's not the same as looking at the message's View Source, from the More menu. What you're looking at there is the web page source, and for display in the group's pages Groups.io must change the reference scheme of the photo to point to the copy stored in the group's storage. This doesn't show how it was in the message as Groups.io received it. Even so, it says that Groups.io copied the image from the message and put it into storage separately from the message body. That leads me to expect that they would appear also in Emailed Photos, so I'm not sure what's going on. I can't tell how the picture came through in my individual mail, as I can't That's unfortunate. Though what we'd really need is a cc of the original post sent to an address where the view source could be inspected - rather than a copy returned from the group (and possibly modified by Groups.io on the way through). Frances,
Shal, your two groups about groups - this is the first time I rememberGroup_Help isn't actually /my/ group, though its owner graciously invited me to moderate there and I accepted. GMF and Group_Help were created independently, Group_Help about a week earlier, with roughly the same mission. Is this a more appropriate spot to refer newbies or would-be's? MyGMF is directed at the needs of group managers: novice, experienced but new to Groups.io, and expert alike. So this is a good place for Y!Group refugees. Hi
I discovered that punctuation counts in Find or Start a Group! A name search (default) using the underscore in group_help does quickly retrieve the group. Does the picture show in the group's Messages? As part of the message bodyor as an attachment? The picture does show in the groups message, and I think as an attachment. A couple of comments and a question:
Just looked at Admin - Promote. That looks beefed up since the last time I looked! Several ways to promote your group, including links on your website, and through social media. Thanks for reminding me, Bruce. Find a Group page - you can tweak your profile that appears on this page through your group Settings, Description. The search here has improved, but I would dearly love a category setting. Or a hashtag for the group and then searchable? BTW, it took a bit of time to find the Shal's new help group in the Find a Group page. I searched by the name search, selected G, then selected results page, clicking to get to page 9 in the G's. (I did skip ahead obviously since "gr" is further along in the alphabet!) Shal, your two groups about groups - this is the first time I remember hearing about your other group, Group_Help. Is this a more appropriate spot to refer newbies or would-be's? My daughter belongs to a home schooling group in YahooGroups. They are looking for a new home. Frances |
Re: iPhone App???
Many thanks, Shal and everyone else who jumped in here.
I tried using my Groups.io groups using my iPhone 7 and Safari, and, voila!,?everything worked perfectly.? Not so much when I used Google Chrome, but my testing with Chrome may have been flawed. Something I really like about Groups.io: almost every time I need something, it turns out that the developer team has been down that road before me and come up with a better solution that I've have imagined.? :-)? Re: Attached Picture Not In Emailed Photos.
Don,
I have a member that ¡®attached¡¯ a picture to his email to the group,Does the picture show in the group's Messages? As part of the message body or as an attachment? Same question for the message if you received it in individual email. There are several possibilities. Two of which involve the image being displayed as part of a formatted (HTML) message body. In the View source (aka Show Original) of the message these would be: <img src="http:... Or https:... These would be an image file fetched from a web site. The image file wasn't attached to the message, and would not appear in Emailed Photos. This form is often referred to as a "remote" image, and many email interfaces will defer loading them until you explicitly ask to show the image. <img src="data:... The image file is carried inline in the HTML of the message body. This is also technically not an attachment, but I think Groups.io ought to treat it as if it were. I asked if they ¡®embedded¡¯ the picture, and they said no.Well, members aren't always clear on what the terms mean, and the various email interfaces out there aren't often very clear on just how they will represent an image, whether placed by drag-n-drop, copy and paste, or with an Add Image dialog box can affect the representation, as can the source of the image (a file finder/explorer versus a web browser, for example). Suggestions have been made on improving these steps, but there have been no changes recently.? Re: strange email notation
Annick,
One of my group members noticed that when she sends a message to ourWelcome to email according to DMARC. It is not a bug. /static/help#dmarc It is Groups.io's work-around for certain email services' demand that any message from one of their users, if not delivered directly by them, be rejected by the receiver. The result, if Groups.io did not do this, is that messages from members using Yahoo, AOL, and various other services would be uniformly rejected when Groups.io forwards them to (other) members. So the work-around is for Groups.io to re-write the From address so that the message is actually "From" the groups.io domain. Yahoo Groups adopted a similar workaround, but they apply it uniformly to all messages, and the made the mistake (IMO) of using the group's posting address as the actual From email address in all messages. Which causes grave confusion in some email clients, especially mobile ones. Search GMF for DMARC and you'll likely find more than you ever wanted to know about it.
