There is no "account", per se, other than the person's email address. With the likely exception of group owners, I suspect most subscribers in groups.io took no action to "create an account" to get started. It was automatically created when their email address was direct-added to a group, transferred into a group from Yahoo, etc.

That said, groups.io cannot determine whether someone attempting to do something is actually authorized to do so unless they somehow confirm that they own the corresponding email address. This is possible by using the "email me a link to login" function at /login. Whether a subscriber subsequently sets up a password so as to bypass this mild annoyance is entirely their choice...but they are no more or less of a member of groups.io for having done so.

As for what can be done without logging in -- it is possible for a group owner to make the calendar, wiki and/or message archive *visible*?to "the world outside" via group settings. But that's about all.?To post a message online, edit a calendar or wiki entry, respond to a poll, change your preferences, update your profile, participate in chats, access files, photos and databases, etc...all of these functions require that the subscriber be logged in.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

There will be a series of Received-by: things in the header. See appended text for example.

You will need to provide this text for the message that was actually held up, not the one retained on the originating server.

By parsing through this mess, it's possible to determine where the message was held up. With servers sometimes in different time zones, it's not necessarily a trivial exercise; but my guess is that it was probably not groups.io.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Once you have a copy of the delayed email as sent to you by Groups.io, follow the link below and follow directions found there. It will tell you how to reveal the needed headers and it contains a link to a tool that will analyze them for you.

I checked ¡°Restricted Membership - Members require approval before being allowed to join the group¡± ¡ and then it allowed me to uncheck "New Users Moderated."

Now new users just have to click a link in the email invitation I send to confirm they want to join ¨C and they can send messages to the group.

Perfect!? That¡¯s exactly what I wanted.

Yes,?at least one of the 4 choices must be checked.? If you do not want New Users Moderated, then you must check one of the other 3 choices.

Re: Mail not being delivered

Do you have the full header on that message that did eventually arrive? You're looking for a gap in the times. Or you can post it here as you did the other one - someone here can translate it for you. As soon as I saw the mchsi client, my finger wanted to point in that direction, though from the header above it looks like the mediacom server handed it off to gmail quite promptly. So you would need to see the one that came BACK to see where it got interrupted.

I know it's very frustrating not to be able to count on delivery times. Good luck.

So now you need to check the source code on the message at the group to see where the holdup was.? Compare the times of the various Received headers.

That's the message as gmail received it from you,
not as you received the message back from the group.

If your group has things that can be downloaded, then the user will need
to be logged into Groups.IO, to download the item.

By way of example, the list I moderate distributes templates for
LibreOffice. To obtain the template, one needs to log into Groups.IO,
select the group I moderate, and the switch to the file downloads area.

access to subgroup only?

Is it possible to allow someone to subscribe to a subgroup but not have access to other groups? We have an internal set of council members, but people outside this help with sub committees...

It's possible that the Yahoo invitation system isn't working properly. It wouldn't be the first time.

Another common error is to attempt to invite the transfer agent to the GIO group instead of the Yahoo group.

Go to the transfer page at?/yahootransfer?

At the bottom of the page there should be an "In Process" box. Click in the box and find the group name in the resulting pull-down menu (if it doesn't appear, you skipped Step 1 somehow).

Assuming the group does appear, click on it. There should be a grey box at the top of the resulting page giving status information. If it says "we have received your invitation and will accept it soon," then your invitation went out.

The longest step in the entire process is the wait for the agent to join your Yahoo group. Once that happens and you promote it a Moderator, the rest of the process should complete in 2-3 days.

Failing all that, you can try to contact support(at)groups(dot)io and ask Mark what's up.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

At the bottom right of that page, do you see your transfer in the In Process drop down box?? If not, you haven't started the transfer in Step 1.? If you do, just wait.
