In yahoo groups it can be done if that is what you are asking. Go to Management Control Panel Access Control and there you can select who you want to be able to see the messages. Select Moderator's only and make sure you have the tick mark in the?selection Members cannot view/edit, only moderators can?view/edit.? ? ? ? ?

I can answer that because this was a question I had asked. I wanted the archives to only be visible to owners/mods or no one. It cannot be done at this time.? So what I have done is have each message locked after one day or when I know there are messages there manually lock them. ? I also advised my members in my Signature Tag groups that if they want a tag they need to request from the email they receive only by replying and we need to see the whole email in their request. ? If they request from the message archives, they will see the word PRIVATE at the front?of the subject line and will not see the entire message they are replying to. This way we know not to fill their request. ? Ilene? ? ? ?

Yes, it was possible in Yahoo, and no, you can't do that here.

You're not the first person to ask about this. There is an ongoing thread about it in the beta group at?

The beta group is the official "suggestion box" for groups.io.

A yahoo list owner has contacted me regarding moving her list to groups.io. The one question she had that I could not answer was whether it was possible to completely disable archiving. Obviously, if this is possible, all members would have to communicate by email since there would be no messages maintained on the site, but apparently that had been possible at one time on yahoo. I'm unable to find this as a feature on my own groups. Does anyone here know of a way to make this happen.

You would only need to set up one event for the weekly item, then have it repeat every week forever.? Another event for the monthly item, then repeat monthly forever.? If need be, you can make changes to an event and have the site make that change for all events.

No, not at all..? You can have repeating calendar events and they are very flexible.? All of our regular announcements, weekly , bi-weekly and monthly are set up in the calendar and I haven't had to service them for well over a year.? In fact, some are 2 or more years old.?

For unique events I often set up notifications with intervals that decrease as we get closer to the actual event.

I just noticed a member has been doing that, and I tried it myself, and sure enough, I can like my own post.? Of what possible value is that?? I assume no way to turn it off.

Thanks, Duane. I had never realized the difference in the two menus. Now I have found my lost Merge option again :-)

I know that it sounds very dumb but I thought that even in Message view posts would be threaded instead of shown individually.

The View page is where you read messages, for example /g/groupname/topics.

To delete a poll, go to the first post and select Delete Poll from the More menu.? If you only want to Close a poll, use the Edit Poll choice instead and scroll to the bottom to close it.

See??in beta regarding how groups.io threads messages.

Sooner or later, completely by chance, someone will initiate a topic with the same subject line that someone else had used previously. Others may feel differently, but I don't want every "hello" or "new subscriber" message in my groups to be threaded. On that basis I believe what Mark has in place represents a good compromise.

The only notice type that can be automatically sent is Group Guidelines.? For anything else, I use the Calendar and create a repeating event for the necessary interval.? It won't be sent to those on No Email, but does go to the group as a message/posting.

There was a separate entry on the left menu for Polls a couple of years ago.? Because it's only a special type of Topic, it was merged into the New Topic page.? Finding existing Polls is easy using the Hashtags page or selecting them from the View drop down menu.

That shouldn't be the problem.? The site checks for that and ignores it.? (It also checks for a few foreign language equivalents, but not all.)? Just from the subject lines, I don't see any reason it should start a new Topic.? You may need to leave one of the incorrect postings as a separate Topic, then send links to it and the original Topic to support so they can see what might be causing the problem.

By the way, when I tried to merge the reply into the original thread I found out that the Merge feature is missing from the drop down menu.

You must be in Topic view to see the Merge option.? The drop down menus are slightly different for Messages and Topics.

Somewhere I read that new or old subjects and ideas to improve are permissible.

For our group especially, I'd like to see ?POLLS as a clickable choice under ADMIN.

We use them frequently. ?At first I couldn't find POLLS, so I used the database feature. ?Now that I've been told where it is, I still do a hunt and peck trying to find it (guess its like trying to teach an old dog new tricks).

Sure do wish it was easier to access.
