Thanks, Duane. Still very new to all of this and didn't even know there was a possible pending member notice. I'll do that.

Unless your members are extraordinarily well - disciplined I wouldn't mind betting that there is a fair degree of duplication in your photo archive, along with more than a few "fuzzy-fotos" that serve no useful purpose whatsoever, so there may be some scope for some selective weeding, although I have to admit that getting rid of 700 MB worth will be time - consuming. And before you ask... post - upload photo size reduction is "sort of" possible but it is extremely tedious and loses the identity of the individual originators of the photos. It is worth testing Shal's question Are you still allowed to upload new files or photos? If you can then something is really adrift (might be better not to ask support!) but if you find new uploads are disabled then prompt action may be required to clear out some of the less useful material. Re: Is it possible to change all member of a group to receive no attachments, unless they change it?
Dave,
Now I know users can turn off attachments, but I'm wondering if itIn the Default Sub Settings tab of your group's Settings page you can change the default Max Attachment Size from Unlimited to None, or something in between. That won't help your current members, it only changes the default for members who join in the future. For current members you (or they, as Mark suggested) can change the setting in their Subscription, but unfortunately there's no bulk way for you to do it - you'd have to open each member's subscription page one by one. And as vijaybhuchar suggested, you can set a group-wide resizing of emailed photos. That's under Photos in the Features section of your group's settings. Photos taken straight from cameras tend to be huge these days, so even picking a 1024x1024 limit can dramatically reduce the size of the attached photos. Another choice is that rather than set a group-wide policy, members who don't want large attachments can set their own private policy.? Under Subscription/Membership/Advanced Preferences, a member can select maximum attachment size: 0 (no attachments, 100KB, 500KB, 5MB, or Unlimited). Below the choice GIO states: "For attachments larger than this size, links to retrieve them will be provided instead."Mark E. On 8/29/2018 8:18 PM, vijaybhuchar via Groups.Io wrote:

What I did with my group was to choose the options whereby photos are resized to 488 by 488. ?This works well for both sending out large emails to subscribers and for keeping usage down for the freemium option. There are four places in settings where you can resize attachments. On Thu, Aug 30, 2018 at 02:07 AM, Dr. David Kirkby from Kirkby Microwave Ltd wrote:

Re: question about putting my status on no mail for all my groups.
Chris,
Use the Groups.io home page. Get to it from the logo in the upper left corner, or , then check mark a page full of your groups and use the Actions menu at the bottom to change their email delivery in a batch. I'm not sure what happens with those groups that don't allow No Email. They may go to Special Notices instead, or may stay unchanged. Go to the site home page after you log in, /? There you can select all of your groups using the check box at the top left.? Go to the bottom of the list and select your delivery preference from the Actions drop down, and verify on the box that pops up.? (You can also use this method to select different options for only those groups that you individually select.)

I'd contact GIO support and see what they're willing to consider regarding Big Tent, and what they require from Big Tent, and then go from there.

Milt,
--How do we move the data to Groups.io?For the membership list, you can use Invite, or upgrade your group to use Direct Add. For the messages and other content that's less clear. If Big Tent had exported the message content as an mbox format file there'd be a greater chance that [email protected] could import it for you. If they have to figure out some ad hoc format that BigTent invented then that would impede the effort. --Can we get help from Groups.io Support in doing that?No better way to find out than to ask [email protected] - I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say on the subject. --When put up the data, can/will it be broken down into individualThat depends. If support adds your message archive to your group's Messages section then it would be. But if you can't get support to do that then no, most likely not. The brief description you gave indicates that the archive may be in HTML format, intended to be loaded into a web page as a static display of the messages. If so, then the question would be whether you would find that presentation acceptable. --Should we try to add a part of the file first, and test it? Or moveTwo things you might do with it are to upload it (whole) to your group's Files section, or to copy/paste it into your group's Wiki section, likely broken up somehow relating to the structure in the archive. A more challenging task would be to copy/paste each individual post in the archive into a New Topic or Reply in your group's Messages section. That would likely be too tedious and error-prone to do by hand, but someone with appropriate skills may be able to do it through Groups.io's API. The downside with this is that I don't think you can avoid having these created posts carry the current date/time (rather than the original) and the name of the person creating them (rather than the original poster). As far as I know only support can create the messages with copied original metadata. --Then should our moderators beta test it and see how it flies?Certainly. You'll need to delve into that archive a bit to see what you actually have and what you can do with it. At worst you'll need to delete what you've uploaded so far and start again as you try different approaches. Just make sure to keep the original copy of the archive unmodified so that you don't accidentally lose any data. Re: Group setttings moderator

Paula,
I can not say what /all/ I did between creating the groupThat's a very strong indication that you were logged in to a different account when you created the group. In Groups.io the email address you put into the Log In form is your account ID, and each email address is a different account. From Groups.io's point of view different accounts are different people. You can hover over, or click on, your name in the upper right corner to see the email address (account ID) that you are currently logged in with. One thing you could try is sending an email to your group's +owner address to see which of your email addresses receives it. The fly in that ointment is that maybe none will: each owner/mod has a control in their Subscription page for whether or not to receive +owner messages and I don't know for certain what the default is. Send a message to applicants

I have a group which we (the moderators and co-op board) want to be visible to the public - to encourage members to join our co-op. The issue that I have is that I (and possibly the rest of the board, after we vote) do not want to have members joining the group via the usual GIO online or email processes. Our GIO membership is restricted to current (paid) members of our co-op.
I would like to be able to respond to email or online applicants to our group that we welcome their interest and will gladly send them an invitation to join when we receive their paid membership application/renewal and provide a link to our static, public website with the membership application available. Is there a way to have that kind of message be the default response to someone wanting to come directly into our GIO community? Thanks in advance for the helpful suggestions. |

Good news, I think, from BigTent on migrating a group!
I contacted BigTent Support for help, as the FAQs recommend, and found help immediately.? It was clear from the initial exchange of emails that BigTent Support really only wants to deal with the moderator or "administrator" they have listed for the BigTent forum in question.? Once we took care of that and got the moderator of the original BigTent group in the picture, it took only a few days before BigTent Support sent her an export .tsv.gz file of virtually all of our group's discussions.? According to one of our moderators who know much more than I do about migrating data: "File looks good. I unziped the file. The format is very straightforward. Every entry is a single line. Responses are designated as comment: <original subject>. The text has embeded html break strings to denote newlines in the text." I believe our next step will be to try moving the data to our new group at Groups.io and see how it flies. Naturally, I have questions along the following lines but the days ahead ought to provide answers: --How do we move the data to Groups.io?
--Can we get help from Groups.io Support in doing that? ?
--When put up the data, can/will it be broken down into individual posts/threads as it originally appeared on BigTent?
?
--Should we try to add a part of the file first, and test it?? Or move the whole file?
?
--Then should our moderators beta test it and see how it flies?
Any further thoughts on this are most welcome.?? ?

Re: Group setttings moderator
#moderation
Paula,
I created a group. Now I can not see how to modify the group settings. That most likely means that you are no longer logged in, or logged in using a different email address than you were using when you created the group. Another possibility is that you aren't looking at the group you created. It always pays to check for the simple problems early on (the famous "is it plugged in?" question). Look in the upper right corner, in the blue bar: does it show your name, or does it say Log In and Sign Up? If it doesn't show your display name then you are not logged in. What buttons do you see in the left column? If you do not see Subscription then you logged in using an account (email address) which is not subscribed to the group. If you see Subscription but there is no "Owner" or "Mod" badge on the Home button then you are logged in using an account which is a member of the group. Rather than have us guess, can you tell us what you did between the time you created the group and now when you cannot see any Admin pages? Minutes, hours, days? Have you logged out, changed browsers, changed computers? When I try to post to the group, I get a message that says that theBeing the group owner doesn't mean that your messages do not require approval. I created the group, so I should be the moderator. In particular, your role should be "Owner". But only when logged in and only when logged in using the same email address as when the group was created. If I somehow did not set that when I created the group, ...The Owner role is automatically applied to the account that created the group. Should I delete the group and try again? You can't without access to the Admin pages. Does the group have be approved?New groups must be approved before you can post messages, but Gerald is correct: not being approved does not block your access to the Admin pages.
