That's correct. If you invite someone to a restricted group, they are never put into pending status. The logic is that if you didn't want them to join, you wouldn't be sending them an invitation.

You might want to go to the Settings page, then select the Default Sub Settings at the top.? Scroll down to Max Attachment Size to see what it's set for, then change it to No Limit if that's what you'll plan to use for your group.? This won't help current members, but new members shouldn't need to change their limit for your group.

On your group Settings page, scroll down to Features, then to Photos, where you can set the Max Size In Photos Section.

Shal thanks. I found that and set it to no limit. This way it comes as a picture instead of a link. Many of my members had this also so I told them how to change it.

Works great now.

I should add, our group is a closed group and the setting is set that new members require approval.

Unfortunately it appears that Subscription Approval Needed and Message
Approval Needed emails are not currently processed by Groups.io's
bounce-tracking mechanism. So they won't appear there.

I don't see an obvious reason why they shouldn't be, and it would help
in resolving this situation. Sounds like something you could drop into
the "suggestion box":

I also saw an issue along similar lines last week. I took a new member through the process of setting up a new account in Groups.io but no validation/activation email was received and not in spam etc. I requested resends but still nothing. The user didn't do anything further during the week, but I had sent him an invite from our groups.io group, which he did receive in his email when we checked yesterday. We followed the sent link and he immediatly had access to our group. Normally as the owner/moderator I see a pending approval request for new members but none appeared in this instance, maybe that's associated with sending an invite.

Now I feel really bad, since many of the people in the group I just transferred were newbies and I messed them up. I know, this is a good reason to have an online account, but I know you also know that many folks do not want to be bothered with another password to remember.

But, thanks as always for the help!!

Well darn, then the entire group (except for people that have online accounts) will be set to Pacific when we primarily live in Eastern. 8-(

Great - thanks - I will pass this on to her so she can change it!

Ok, it is late and I need to mull on exactly what this all means and explore the three places and see what mess I have created. 8-(

Re: attachments

Anita,

I am wondering why when a member sends an attachment it comes as a link instead of the picture in the email?

In the Advanced Preferences section of your Subscription page you may have Max Attachment Size set to a size that is smaller than the size of that picture.

Otherwise I think the picture should be attached to the message or embedded in it, depending on how the member composed the message.

You might have Attachments set to Strip in the Message Formatting section of your group's Settings page. But if that were the case I don't think you'd even get a link.

Re: time zone question

Michael,

Does this mean that all subscribers that did not join Groups.io before
subscribing to a group are stuck with Pacific time, unless they then
go online to correct it ...
No, it means when they subscribe to their first group they get set to the Timezone in that group's Default Sub Settings. But only the first group - after that they already have a set time zone, and the default offered by other groups does not apply.

?There are three types of settings.
...
Those you access through your Subscription page apply to you as a
subscriber to the particular group you are looking at.
I do not see this in Subscription (it wasn¡¯t there when I looked at my
10 groups or the 3 groups I am not the Owner of: GroupManagersForum,
beta | main, or updates)...
Timezone isn't there and shouldn't be. Timezone is not a per-group setting.

In this part of my message I was speaking generically about settings, not intending to imply anything about Timezone in particular.

Those you (as an owner/mod) access through the Settings page applies
to the entire group.
As Owner I do not see a Timezone setting at Admin: Settings
Again, it is not supposed to be.

Well, there's that fourth page, Default Sub Settings, ...
Where is this?
It is a tab on your group's Settings page.

Will it correct, by pre-setting a subscriber¡¯ Timezone, so that it is
correct at the moment they join one of my Groups?
Only if yours is the first group they joined, and they did not previously set their timezone through their Account Preferences page. Also note that "correct" here means whatever you think your group members' Timezone should be - someone who joins from another area may not agree, and can go in to their Account Preferences and /correct/ their timezone for where they actually reside.

Note that this makes the Timezone (and Time Display and Date Display) different from the other settings on that page. The others /are/ Subscription (group-specific) settings and will not carry over to other groups that person might join.

?As I said, too late for her. The Default Sub Settings are only applied to a subscriber at the moment they join your group.
Does this mean that all subscribers that did not join Groups.io before subscribing to a group are stuck with Pacific time, unless they then go online to correct it at:
Account: Preferences: Timezone
That would be all subscribers of all my groups, except myself and 2 members of 1 group that joined before they got transferred from a YahooGroups...

?There are three types of settings.

OK, Account: Preferences: Timezone

Those you access through your Subscription page apply to you as a subscriber to the particular group you are looking at.

If I can find this Timezone setting how does it apply to the entire group, but it is too late for any subscriber that did not set their Timezone before the moment they joined any of my groups?

Re: Sent Invitation Page

Yes, using the Remove/Cancel Invite choice only removes it from the list (and invalidates the link in the email that was sent to them, as it does with the ones you already removed), it doesn't change their membership.

In the Sent Invitation page it shows people I¡¯ve sent invitations too, people that accepted the invitation, and people that could not be contacted for various reasons. Re: Freedom of speech

In the Spam Control section Leave the group's Moderated box normally unchecked, and use New Users Moderated instead. That way when people join they start off with the moderation override, and you can choose to leave them that way indefinitely. But for those you choose to unmoderate, set them to Default group policy, rather than Override: not moderated.
One of the things I appreciate about goups.io is the feature to moderate new members but they go off moderation automatically if there have been no problems. On Yahoo it took 5 screens to take someone off moderated status so we often just left them on. But it led to having to moderate more and more messages. In two messages we know if they are spammers or looking for a fight.

I think it also discourages people from even trying to post ¡ª they join to send a press release or solicitation or advertising but unsubscribe when they see the ¡°new users moderated.¡±

Patti,

Ok, I found this tab and it was indeed set to Pacific time, not Eastern time, so I changed it. The calendar already was using Eastern time. But, she has reported that this did affect anything on her end.

She said this when asked "I was looking on the website. I did my post at 11:48 (not 8:48AM) using the web site interface. I just refreshed the screen and it is still 8:48."

?Ok. Then she is logged in to the site, and she can change her own Timezone setting. And only she can change it:

You cannot control the timezone she sees on the group's pages. She has to follow the instructions above for herself.

Open the folder to view the individual photos. Click on the blue Edit Album button at the top. On the resulting page, change the text in the Title box to whatever you want. The click on the Update button at the bottom of the page.

If you're trying to change the name of a File folder, click on Files to display the list of folders. At the right of each folder will be several icons, one of which looks like a pencil on a piece of paper. This is the Edit icon. Click on that, and a dialog box will open where you can change the folder name. Again, be sure to click on Update to save your changes.
?
Hope this helps,
