Re: Error message at retrying yahoo transfer #transfer #yahoo #issue

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Heijo,

Another way to approach this problem is: what are the criteria for io to decide if the yahoogroup name I enter for a transfer is valid or not? Are these criteria detailed somewhere?

I don't think so. The key is that it must be the "name" of a Yahoo Group. Specifically, the text you put into the Web Address and/or Group Email field on the About Group tab of the Y!Group's Control Panel. Not including any of the grey text outside those boxes:

Is this group name field case-sensitive?

I don't know, but if you copy from the field in the Y!Group's control panel you can't go wrong. I think.

If that still doesn't work, then I think you have a case you need to take to [email protected] to resolve.

Re: Need to be able to customize Invite message.

Toani,

As a native Spanish speaker, I would love to help groups.io be
available in other languages.
The question of localizing Groups.io for other languages has been discussed in beta (the official "suggestion box"). My impression is that any action in that direction is likely a long way off.

No harm in you adding your two cents to that topic.

Re: Reply-To: in messages

David,

What you are proposing is a discussion group afaics, but more
complicated. It would also be open to spamming I imagine.
The messages coming in through the integration can be moderated to prevent spamming; just as ordinary group messages can be.

For the other people it is simpler than a discussion group: they didn't have to join anything nor deal with extraneous messages (announcements about others). And it isn't that much more complicated for you - set up the integration and after that the group operates in a normal fashion.

The key distinction, over what you're doing, is that the others initiate the messages - which may be a bad thing if you prefer acting as curator and author of the announcements.

It was your email service provider (which may or may not be the same as
your internet service provider) who rejected Groups.io as a sender.

I don't see any clue as to why. It looks like another unfortunate case
of a generic failure code and message where a specific one would be more
helpful.

Except that last one:
Jun 24 cloudy stripes 4.2.2 smtp; 452 4.2.2 Over quota
But it was a temporary error (4xy code) anyway, you should have received
that message, but perhaps late.

Re: DKIM causing bounces

Jeff,

That is why I am wondering if something changed with groups.io.
I would have said no, but now that you've dug up the actual source of the problem, I'll say maybe.

It was working great until the end of May. I own 2 active groups.io
lists and 1 that I use for testing features. This happened in both
groups at the same time.
Which could have been when the time discrepancy crept in, or it could be when Zoho added that test to their processing.

Is there a way to get a more complete bounce message with headers
rather than the short version in the Email Delivery History? That is
what Zoho is asking me for.
Not that I know of. You could ask support, but I think that may be a moot question for this incident.

The error code and message are supposed to be enough. If Zoho is using a generic code and text, the elaborating elsewhere in the body of the failure notice then I think that's kind of on them.

Re: DKIM causing bounces

Lena,

DKIM signatures don't contain dates.
Actually they do contain a timestamp. In this case t=1531244118; which is GMT: Tuesday, July 10, 2018 5:35:18 PM -- 18 seconds ahead of the Received field, as advertised.

Looking at your message I have t=1531269237; aka GMT: Wednesday, July 11, 2018 12:33:57 AM; and Gmail's Received from Groups.io is Tue, 10 Jul 2018 17:33:38 -0700 (PDT). Nineteen seconds ahead. I doubt Gmail's servers are off, so I'm going to CC support on this one.

Zoho can be faulted for that confusing minus sign though ("-18 seconds in the future"). And for one of the more picayune reasons to bounce a message I've heard of. But a sanity check is a sanity check I suppose.
I wonder if they have any tolerance on that - would one second in the future also cause a bounce?

Record of private e-mails sent to members via the group and search members postings.

As a owner/moderator, If I send a private message to a member via the group, is there a history of it somewhere? (If i give them a warning does it show up anywhere or is the only way to also add a note)

?

Can I search a members name for messages within the group or only once I have located them in the member directory?? If I search members and then put the members e-mail address I can search all of their postings but if I am in the main message board and search using their e-mail address all of their e-mails do not show up.

The longest delay in the process is waiting for the transfer agent to accept your invitation. It is a manual step that requires solving a CAPTCHA.

At times, the Yahoo transfer queue has been as much as three weeks deep.

I can attest to a wait of about that long for two of my groups. Probably because groups are fleeing Y! like there's no tomorrow... as well as elsewhere. All I can say is that it was well worth the wait.

DKIM signatures don't contain dates. "Date" is among header lines DKIM-signed. I compared Date in a digest from groups.io with time in Received added by my personal mail server (with synchronized clock - I checked) - OK. In your header:

Received: from web01.groups.io (web01.groups.io [66.175.222.12]) by mx.zohomail.com
? ? with SMTPS id 1531244100222185.37727506897534; Tue, 10 Jul 2018 10:35:00 -0700 (PDT)
Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2018 10:35:04 -0700
X-ZohoMail-DKIM: fail (Signature date is -18 seconds in the future.)
Therefore, it's time in ZohoMail server which is off.

Assuming you have read the link that I provided you previously (here it is again just in case?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/6662).

When you pull down your group name from the "In Process" list, look for a notice at the top of the resulting page. It should say something to the effect that "We have received your invitation and will accept it soon. There is no need to send another invitation."

And so the long wait begins. This is on the premise that Yahoo is working and your invitation actually went out.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Messages with No Plain Text Parts

Jim Higgins

Back on Y!, in a group that didn't permit attachments, messages with no plain text parts weren't posted. That meant a message containing nothing but an attachment... or nothing but an HTML part (which is sent as an attachment) wouldn't be posted. But a message sent as both plain text and HTML would be posted.

How does Groups.io handle message posting in groups that don't permit attachments?

Thanks.

Ads in messages

I just had a member in the group I own send me a private email with the following quote:
"Speaking of rule changes, can we stop the Netzero attacks with the dubious ads in the text?? I clicked on a few and they are reminding me of snake oil salesmen of the way past.? How to get rich etc. is really how to get me rich by you buying my book or something similar.
?
Don't know a lot about Netzero but it would?have to pay me?a lot to let them ruin all of my email messages.? I would be embarrassed to have people read my email that was selling get rich schemes."

I've asked him to clarify, because I have never seen an ad on any post in any group I'm involved in, either reading email or viewing posts on a browser. In the meantime, has anyone else seen anything like this and/or have any suggestions I can pass along to him?

Dave

Re: DKIM causing bounces

"DKIM is an authentication technology (digital signature), so I would expect that setting it up in your email provider would affect the messages you send TO Groups.io, not the messages you receive FROM Groups.io."

That is why I am wondering if something changed with groups.io.

"
presume you're seeing this in the "Email Delivery History" of the Subscription page (or in your Members record) in one of your groups? That's where bounce-related info goes. If somewhere else, please explain."

Yes. My own email account history.

"
Do you find any exceptions? Do messages from people using Yahoo Mail or AOL, for example, get through? If so that would tend to confirm the idea that the problem is a conflict in the From versus the sender."

I am the only one who notices it. Yahoo and Gmail accounts are fine. I am pretty sure it is the "From". Which, again, is why I am wondering what may have changed at Groups.IO. I have been using Zoho for about a year now. I was doing my own hosting before that. Got tired of managing a mail server and decided to do the cloud thing. :-) It was working great until the end of May. I own 2 active groups.io lists and 1 that I use for testing features. This happened in both groups at the same time.

Is there a way to get a more complete bounce message with headers rather than the short version in the Email Delivery History? That is what Zoho is asking me for.

I¡¯ll try all those options and see what happens. I use Plain Text because we don¡¯t allow attachments. When I was using HTML people were not attaching things but dragging them into the email or pasting them in. My biggest objection personally is that the emails become image heavy and ugly. People begin emailing just to send images ¡ª like Facebook sharing. It gives them some thing to say.

Is there anyway to prevent that?

I have a program that scans email for viruses ¡ª and it finds 3-4 every month just on spam. So it¡¯s still a problem.

The new footers have my subscribers talking about how great YahooGroups was. It¡¯s rose-colored glasses but it is the lack of a reply to sender that is the big complaint right now.

?Odd. Since I don't see that in any of my Y!Group footers. Unless they're talking about Fully Featured Digests. In which case Groups.io is the same.
That was my response but I didn¡¯t go check it.

To use the reply on website, they have to sign in and most have never done that.

?Easy-peasy. ?Tell them to just use the Email me a link to login feature. Receive the message, click on the link, done. Logged in with no password or account setup required. They stay logged in for up to 30 days, so they don't have to do that for every reply.
I think that would be just as bothersome for them. If I develop some of the website resources they might not mind because there would be more to go there for.
