RSVP events #calendar

Southenders Admin

I've searched the forum, and found very little discussion regarding RSVP use. I am trying to validate its use to my group in order to continue paying for Groups.io to compensate Mark for the fantastic home he has created here. Are there other members here who use it successfully? I am having difficulty with it because those members of my group (about half) who don't use the site but rely on emails, don't recognize the Are You Going?link to be something they must click on to make an RSVP selection on the website.?

I want to be able to continue as a premium group, but any feedback on getting members to use it properly would be appreciated.

Unusable e-mail address for reply

Oops!

I neglected to include the unusable address format.

?

username@...

?

That is what the format of the address is, but with a <at the beginning and a >at the end and no underline.

How do they get changed to a usable address?

Richard

Unusable e-mail address for reply

I have several members who can post to my group, but I cannot reply to their post.

I cannot reply to them privately either, using the same e-mail address.

I get a reply from the MAILER DEAMON that it is undeliverable.

I can probably obtain a usable address from somewhere, but I do not know how to advise these users on how to correct their address that appears in their posts.

?

What can I do about it?

My eMail client is set up to put messages without a Subject into the Spam Folder.

There are other threads here that say that is not in anyone's best interests.
It is not my providers Spam filter, which might cause a deletion of the poster, it is the Junk folder in my eMail client.

My group members use a variety of ways to communicate with the Group - some via webmail, some via their email client, some online.

So where are the email addresses displayed if a member doesn't post?
Sorry, I don't know as I only go the eMail route except for this and the Beta group.
(My eMail client gives me an off line record of what I have posted.)

I think Duane's and Bruce's replies above give you an answer.

Changes in "normal.dotm"?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Sharon,

?

you normally find your standard template normal.dotm under "C:\User\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates".. You get an empty word document and there you can set to no pitches between the lines, and that this should be standard and be connected to every document. I have difficulty to explain this to you because the German terms are maybe different from the English terms. But when you you¡¯re your normal.dot you will see how you can change formats.

?

?????????????? I¡¯m not sure I can get people to modify a template but perhaps if I know what you did, I can figure out alternative instructions. We ask people to paste in proposals and minutes because not ?????????????? everyone can or will open attachments. Word¡¯s formatting makes screens and screens of text that is hard to follow.

?

Well, some of my members send their emails from their smart phones. Many of them aren?t really fit in formatting. In my groups I?ve observed a general and growing unwillingness to read a lot or to write understandably, especially since facebook and whattsapp. So I don?t know if this can work with your members, but good luck anyway¡.

If it is eMail only, how about using plain TXT only.

There is nothing to modify providing there is not more than item per line.

Re: Messages without subject line

That's down to the interaction between e-mail (where it might be a sensible thing to do) and groups.io (where it has undesirable consequences).

So - as a group owner - put him, or, better still, his messages,? on moderation (can you select for moderation based on (non-) subject?), and not approve them until/unless message have subjects.

Ah. I forgot about the templates. What did you change on the template to avoid getting the double and triple blank lines when pasting messages into email?

Re: Automatic Deletion of Members If Message Marked As Spam #poll

Having read and thought about it, I am still not sure that it is clear enough about one point. I think Marked picked up a point made by Shal in his post? , and removed a sentence that was in my original suggestion, that sentence being Please note that this "marking as spam" may have been done by your Email Service Provider and not by you.? Given that I and others have expressed reservations about many members' degree of "IT Awareness" I tend to think that without that sentence the message may well not drive home the fact that what happened was down to the MSP rather than the individual member.?
Ah! I have found an anomaly! I have just received a "Owner's Notification" about a member who has been unsubscribed for the usual reason. The Owners Notification includes the phrase Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally, which is fine.

However, the message that the unsubscribed member will have received no more than "hints" at this possibility, mainly because of the non - inclusion of a corresponding sentence, sedt out in bold above.

I therefore propose to submit a further suggestion that this sentence be reinstated in the Member's Notification to eliminate any possible uncertainty in the recipient member's mind. I will also suggest the "zendesk" reference be removed.

Chris

Thanks Shal,
I assume you mean the activity log for my own group... that was where I checked...
Just checked again and those missing emails are definitely not in the message activity log, so I guess that they have never arrived.
I fully expected Mailer-Daemon messages about them, but I have received nothing from my ISP.
I even contacted them by email about the first missing messages on Monday night (Friday midday now) and apart from the automated message about getting back to me and a reference number, I have not heard from them.... very poor service..
Now that more are missing, and I have confirmed that there isn¡¯t a problem at groups.io, I will have to phone them and you will probably hear my expletives over there... lol..
I fully expect they will tell me that there is nothing wrong at their end and it is happening elsewhere... but another message that has not been delivered is to my husbands computer downstairs... lol... same account, different email address... how can anything like that occur ??
Thanks for your help.

Win,

... I have checked the activity log and they never came to the group.
...
I just need it confirmed that the group does not have a spam blocker nor a blacklist.
?
Nope. None such. There are reasons Groups.io won't accept some messages, but the Activity log will tell you when that happens.

That said, I'm sure Groups.io does quietly drop connections from misconfigured email servers, including those like spambots that don't have any identifying credentials. But if that were the problem you'd undoubtedly be having trouble sending to just about anywhere.
?
Is there anywhere in that I can see if my mails ever got to the group server? I have to explore every possibility before I contact my ISP.
?
The activity log would be the place. You can narrow the hunt by selecting Message Activity. If they aren't showing there then they went somewhere else (or nowhere). Even messages that Groups.io did not accept would show there, with an indication of why.

But your ISP too should be sending you back Delivery Status Notification (aka "mailer-daemon") messages if Groups.io rejects your message, or if your service can't find Groups.io to deliver it, or for that matter anytime they have a problem delivering a message.

Re: emails not arriving

I'd guess there's about a 99% probability that it's a problem with your email service.? Unless it's moderated, a post should show up within a minute or so of being sent.? Next time one gets delayed (but delivered), you (or a moderator if you're not one) should look at the source to check the time stamps along the way to find where the delay is being added.

Re: Options when member "hijacts" a thread

One little detail that may pop up.? If someone responds to the red post, but about the blue subject, it will likely get added to the red thread.? Then you have to split it to it's own subject, followed by merging the new thread back into the original blue thread.? It can definitely get confusing if the messages are coming in very fast.? But at least it can be done.

Over the last six days I have had emails to my Photoshop Players group undelivered....? despite other emails to the same address being delivered both before and after the 3 different Sent times. They were to my group that I own and run, I have checked the activity log and they never came to the group. The emails were the same email resent, there was no attachment. It was just text with a YouTube link for some Photoshop tutorials. I have sent the same type of emails before and never had problems.
1... First sent to [email protected] on 30/03/2018 at 11.33 PM
2... Forwarded again from Sent Box on 01/04/2018 at 1.59 AM
3... Email totally retyped in a new message? and sent on 02/04/2018 at 12.30 AM
None of these ever arrived.
Then last tonight I sent 2 to my group which have never arrived, the second being a resend of the first 9 hours later... yet one I sent 24 minutes earlier than the second one, had arrived on the group in less than one minute. It is now just under 11 hours since I sent the second email and still no show.
?
I just need it confirmed that the group does not have a spam blocker nor a blacklist. Is there anywhere in groups.io that I can see if my mails ever got to the group server? I have to explore every possibility before I contact my ISP.
?
I consistently have emails delivered late or not delivered at all to some of my Yahoo groups, but with what is happening in YGroups, I am not concerned about those, it is the groups.io problem that is annoying... and puzzling. Why are some of my emails going through and some disappearing?
?
I hope that you can advise me...
Many thanks
Win

Re: Options when member "hijacts" a thread

You could split the thread. Then assign the new hashtag.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Split-Threads
Doesn't' change the behaviour though!

Frances

Re: Options when member "hijacts" a thread

Oops...I'm afraid I misunderstood your question. Sorry.

First you have to split off the "red" message from the "blue" thread according to the instructions at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Split-Threads

At that point you can change the subject and hashtag of the new thread as I mentioned previously.

Hope this helps,
Bruce
