I left the really ancient members alone with their M status, figuring that if they had not posted yet, they're unlikely to ever do so; and that if and when they do, the mods can just deal with it and unmoderate them by hand. ? -- J |
Importing Facebook Group info and membership list
#importingdata
I am new to Groups.io and have just set up a group here as the owner.
I am transferring - hopefully - the content and particularly the membership list of a Facebook Group.? I was led to? believe by someone that recommended this group, and also by the text I saw when first getting on the website/group, that importing from Facebook was straight forward.? Now that I have the group set up, I can't find out how to do it.? Can someone help please? Bill |

I entirely agree that setting them to Default group policy would be best. My issue is that they are already set to that, and yet I am being asked to moderate them. But I will give it a go.

Thanks for the tips for making it easier. I have certainly appreciated being able to deal with Bouncing members 20 at a time instead of individually as in Y. Being able to do it 100 at a time will ne marvellous. Elizabeth On 29 Mar 2018, at 19:57, Duane <txpigeon@...> wrote: |

setting them all to Post The best choice would probably be "Default group policy".? That way if there's ever a serious group problem, you can quickly switch the group to moderated, then back to unmoderated after things cool down. To minimize the amount of work, there are a couple of things you can do.? Change your account preference settings to display 100 items per page (or infinite scroll if you want to try to do them all at once.)? Then go down through the list to select the check box beside the names for whichever action you want to perform.? At the bottom of the page, use the Actions drop down to select the one you want for those users and verify it.? If you want to select another group to change to another setting, just repeat. Re: Moderation

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBruce,There¡¯s no NuM feature in yahoo. It¡¯s not a setting: it¡¯s just an FYI to members that they are on moderation until a moderator manually unmoderates them. The problem is that the posting status set in Yahoo doesn¡¯t match the ?possible statuses in , so that in transferring a group, has no way of knowing which M members should stay M and which ones should be set to NuM because they were M only by virtue of the fact that they had not yet posted.? That is why I¡¯ve suggestec an option in beta to make them all one way or the other during the transfer. It¡¯s not perfect but it might be helpful in groups where, for example, either many members have not yet posted (in which case the choice would be to set all M members to NuM) or many members are on legitimate moderation, in which case the choice could be to keep the M status. Right now, the transfer defaults to the latter. On Mar 29, 2018, at 10:59 AM, Bruce Bowman <bruce.bowman@...> wrote:

Re: Moderation
Yes, I want New members, or rather those who have never sent a message, to have their first message moderated and then go to unmoderated status, though there are some members who remain moderated, as they are commercial suppliers.

However many members who have been posting for years (including myself) have had posts sent to moderation. Multiple times! I am dreading going through them individually and setting them all to Post. Elizabeth On 29 Mar 2018, at 19:04, Shal Farley <shals2nd@...> wrote: |

Re: Moderation
Bruce,
No, that's incorrect. Y!G does have a NuM feature and it's the same as GIO...it's in the group settings, not the subscriber settings. See attached screenshot. No, that too is incorrect. Yahoo groups has a like-named feature, but it doesn't work like Groups.io's. ? In Y!groups the NuM setting is only a group-level control, there is no corresponding Posting Privilege. Which means that in Y!groups new members only ever get unmoderated by a manual action of a moderator -- changing their Posting Privilege from the Moderated override to (hopefully) use the group setting. It also means that in Y!Groups there's no way to distinguish a member who is moderated "for cause" from one that is merely "new". The moderators must keep track of that by external means. Re: Moderation
It isn¡¯t checked, which I assumed meant members could post. If I check it then presumably all members are moderated. Or is there something I have missed?

She wants NuM and she will have to do it by hand for the existing members coming from yahoo. That's correct. Regardless of how they got that way, any member whose Posting Privilege is Override: moderated will continue to have their messages held pending until their privilege is manually changed. My usual approach to such members is to be lazy: I wait for their next message to land in the Pending list and change their Privilege to Default group policy at that time. Unless I want to keep that individual moderated, of course. Then I can choose between leaving them on indefinite moderation or changing them to Override: new user moderated, but the latter only makes sense if the group has enabled Unmoderate After to a setting higher than 1. I support your efforts to somehow carry over this feature during migration, but to do so will entail making some assumptions regarding where existing Y!G users are in the process of first-post moderation.
