Re: How long does it take to transfer
I'm in the same situation as Robert, having initiated a transfer on March 9th. When I select the Yahoo group name from the In Process drop down it goes to the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer page with a blue 'Update Transfer' and red 'Delete Transfer Request' button and with all the selection buttons ticked and blue. I'm thinking to delete it and start again...

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJ,Shal, no need to test it. There's no question about this. What had me concerned was joining a group and then seeing this: In conjunction with a left side that had buttons only for the Home and Subscription pages. But I subsequently realized that the test was flawed: that address would also have been NC (it was not a valid address). "Bounced" just means that groups.io stops sending emails to the address. It does nothing at all with regard to group membership or accessibility. Sounds good in principle, but I always prefer to test when practical. In this case though I haven't sufficient doubt to propel me. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: bouncing
Marina,
So, they wouldn't even be able to read group posts online.J is probably right that they still can. I haven't recently created an email address, joined to a group, and then deleted it to observe the detailed behavior when the address gets set to bouncing, and ultimately bounced. I'm not sure at what time they went bouncing. That's a point. It would be helpful for cases like this if the Bouncing view of the Members list had a "Bouncing Date" column that could be sorted to separate the newly bouncing from those that have been that way longer. Either in addition to the Join Date or as a replacement for it. I sent a bulk bounce probe some days ago, but they are all still thereThat may well mean that those addresses are indeed bad (de-activited, abandoned, whatever). Actually, three new members joined the bouncing group.Mark reported in beta that he's modified the processing of some type of rejection codes/messages in an attempt to keep Yahoo Mail users from being promptly set to bouncing as a result of Yahoo Mail's glitches. But who knows, some of the rejections might be legit. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: LInks
Richard,
And will other links in a message appear as clickable? If the message body is formatted (HTML), and the author used the link tool (or equivalent) to make a link, yes. If HTML and not created as a link, no. If the message body is plain text then it depends on the recipient's email interface. Many (most?) will recognize URL syntax and "linkify" it (make it clickable). Some will even recognize email address syntax and make them into mailto: links. But some do not. Groups.io's Messages section, for example, displays plain-text URLs as links, but not plain-text email addresses. Re: Transferring UK Group
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBruce is correct.? My group name has an underscore as we followed the same name as the YG before transferring over 1 year ago.? Now in order to create a subgroup I would have to rename the group and take out the underscore.

Re: How long does it take to transfer
Robert,
Select the name of the Y!group from the In Process list. That should take you to the status page. Before you've given the "Go", the boxes there will still be enabled, and you'll have a button to update your request (select different items to transfer) if you want. Probably also one to cancel the transfer, and, when the transfer agent (believes it) has joined your group a button to initiate the data collection (I've been calling it the "Go" button, but I don't think it actually used that word). Anyway, after you've clicked that last button the checkboxes on that page will be disabled - your choices are locked in. ?
Right. You only click that button once (per group being transferred, you can have more than one in process at a time). Hope this helps, good luck!? Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý"...a single spam report to Norton/Symantec may have been the source..."? once again, it seems like speculation, do we know if this is definitely true or not??? Isn't having Groups.io being considered a phishing or potential virus site by Norton and other security apps, and so they block the browser from accessing our site, different than simply having an email go into someone's spam account and we immediately unsubscribe them?? "I can't speak for other group owners, but having a member occasionally get bumped off -- and the mild annoyance of reinstating them -- is a small price to pay to avoid a repeat of that." With the volume of messages about it, it seems like more than a mild annoyance to many folks.? And with the volume of new groups and users coming over all the time, it's only going to get worse.? Time to try out that "mute" feature, I guess. Barb On 2018-03-19 07:05 PM, Bruce Bowman wrote:

Re: Can someone explain to me... unsubscribed for marking a message as spam
At the risk of beating a dead horse, one last note for the newbies...
A little over a month ago, all of a sudden the entire groups.io domain was being flagged as a phishing site by Norton, AVG, and perhaps others. I had just transferred my group and spent a lot of time convincing my members that we hadn't made a big mistake in abandoning Y!G and all the "red banners of death" they were experiencing were just a false alarm. Mark and many others turned in reports telling these providers that groups.io was fine; nonetheless, at least one internet security provider continued to flag the groups.io web site as a source of malware for more than a week. As it turned out, a single spam report to Norton/Symantec may have been the source, which propagated through the other providers like wildfire.? This event convinced me that handling of spam reporting is not something that we can play fast and loose with.?I can't speak for other group owners, but having a member occasionally get bumped off -- and the mild annoyance of reinstating them -- is a small price to pay to avoid a repeat of that.? Is it irritating? Yes. Complaints of this nature will no doubt continue to filter in here because we're the only ones willing to listen and respond. But to have any real impact, they need to be directed to the source of the problem...one's own ESP.? Thanks for listening to my rant. Bruce |
