Re: Questions on Transfer Form

Shal,
Because no one in this group knew which choice to make, I sent a message to Support. It turned out to be a bug and has been corrected. I looked at the form just now and it has been fixed.

None of my transfers were into groups that had subgroups, so I don't know. I'd probably choose the second as it seems less ambiguous (all of the subgroups are part of Wine.groups.io <>, whereas Wine alone seems to uniquely designate the primary group by its name).

In the list of group names you get by dropping the "Your Groups" list the indentation and the icons make it clearer. In that list choosing the Wine.groups.io <> entry is a synonym for choosing "Wine".

Also, I'm confused about the sequence. The instructions say send
the invite and then uncheck all moderation privilages, if desired.

There's an implied "wait for the transfer agent to accept the invitation" in there.

Then it goes to the

Furthermore, after being admitted and also receiving the welcome message, it still shows "no email deliveries."

Re: trouble with transfer from yahoogroups

My bad, all. I was trying to invite [email protected] to my groups.io group, not my YahooGroup.
It always helps to actually READ the instructions, not skim!

I'm confused because Mark posted that he'd completely changed the transfer process:

"I spent a good part of this week completely redoing how I do Yahoo Group transfers. No longer do you initiate transfers by inviting the transfer user to join your group. Instead, you go to?/yahootransfer?and fill out a form, with your Yahoo Group, your Groups.io group and what you'd like to transfer. You can then track the progress of the transfer through the website."

He says "no longer do you initiate transfers by inviting the transfer user to join your group" etc., but when you click on the link, it still instructs people to do that. I think this is creating some confusion. Possibly he posted the wrong link here?

And I would say, "maybe not". A current pending member, who has received both the confirmation email and pending member notice, shows "no email deliveries" in their email delivery history, right now, in my group.

well, don't I feel stupid! I was trying to invite [email protected] to my new groups.io group! Woops!
Let's see how it goes when I follow instructions.
Thanks for your help. It is now PLUGGED IN. 8^)

Caroljoy,

I have invited [email protected] to be a member, but get a message that this email address has errors.

Can you elaborate on that? What kind of errors?

Just to check the "is it plugged in" box, you are using the Manage Invitations page in your Yahoo Group, right?
?
I can't seem to find any help for this. The instructions say that there could be a delay of several days, but it's been more than a week and it doesn't seem like the process is even getting to the point of [email protected] being a member of my group, let alone making them a moderator to make the transfer.

Does the In Process page for this transfer have any information about your status? You can use that page before Step 4 just to see where Groups.io thinks you are in the process. It won't tell you where you are in line, but I think it shows whether or not the invitation has been received and/or whether the transfer agent has joined your group.

Nice. I like not having to track down one of their messages first.
I haven't been able to find the "All Posts by This Member".
Where is it?

"CHANGE: More updates to the Yahoo Group transfer process after I learned that many groups do not accept -subscribe email requests."
Site Updates for 3/2

I got a little whiplash myself from that about-face.

trouble with transfer from yahoogroups

Can anyone offer a suggestion please?...I have set up our group on groups.io and planned on transferring over from YahooGroups using the easy transfer function. Re: Tracking Pending Member and Welcome Messages

Bruce,

Is there any way to see if a Pending New Member message or a Welcome message has actually been sent to members asking to join a group?

Maybe.

If the Pending or Welcome message is listed in the (pending) member's Email Delivery History as the most recent Successful or Unsuccessful then you know its fate. But a subsequent message could supersede it there,

Too, I discovered recently, it can take a while (between 1 and 24 hours, in the case I noticed) for the Pending notice to show up as Most Recent Successful Delivery. I don't know if that's just an updating issue in Groups.io or if it relates to some kind of time-out for delayed rejection by an email service.

Actually Arial does include the Music Sharp Sign as they call it in the

others. This is Windows 10 - maybe earlier versions didn't include it.

Again, those usages are unknown this side of the Atlantic. Pound weight is always lb, pound currency is ? (and that is what is meant by the words "pound
sign") and on a phone the # sign is called hash (It didn't exist on old phones with a rotating dial).

Hmm... The square box implies to me that your email interface recognized
that it was a Unicode character, but didn't have that character
available in the font used for displaying the message. Possibly you
could see it if you can switch display fonts?
I wondered about that at the time and tried a couple of alternatives without
success. I just tried searching several fonts in Windows Character Map (using
the Unicode option of course) but couldn't find one that included that
character. Having typed that, it occurred to me that I could look at the source
of the Wikipedia page, where I found they specify Lucida Sans Unicode, which
does include it. Using that for my email does show it. Problem solved! I
normally read email using plain Arial, which does not include it. This message
has now been typed with a mixture, so I wonder how it will come through to you
(my guess is it will make no difference, sending in plain text).

In the Miscellaneous Symbols block, ♯ at your service.
Thanks. Never needed it on a web site yet, but who knows what the future may
hold?
