Re: Moderators ability to change email addresses
J_Catlady
Mark forgot to say that in the siteupdates message, but here's his original message about it:
"For premium groups, moderators can now edit member's email addresses. That works similarly to how it works when a user changes their own email address, that is, all the member's subscriptions are changed to the new email address. You cannot change to an email address that is already associated with another account. However, another improvement is that we're a little smarter about that. If the account you're trying to change to has no subscriptions or is only subscribed to updates@, we treat it like that account didn't exist." [yada yada, end-run around ellipses ?....] -- J |

It's not critical, but I will suggest it on beta. |

re mail delays and non delivery
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am getting a little frustrated... last night I sent an email to
my own group and it was delayed 14 hours, yet another I sent a few minutes later
came in almost immediately. ? Another one sent at the same time was returned to me with this
message.. The following message to
<[email protected]> was
undeliverable.
The reason for the problem: 5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 500-'This message contains an executable attachment, which is not permitted.' It definitely DIDN¡¯T contain an exe file, it was a zipped
file of a Photoshop brush which is an .abr file.
However I am assuming that this one was
from my ISP because it came from here
"Mail Delivery System" MAILER-DAEMON@...
I expect this is something I will have to take up with them.
?
A short time ago, I sent 3 emails to my group, 2 were delivered
immediately, 25 minutes later I am still waiting for the third.
I have noticed that the delayed ones have attachments.
?
Because I post several emails to my group every day, is there any way to
¡°whitelist¡± myself so there isn¡¯t any possibility of being seen as spam?
?
Thanks

Moderators ability to change email addresses
I like this, but have a couple of questions about it.- NEW: Moderators can now change members' email addresses. If I change someone's email address in my group, and that address isn't currently associated with a groups.io account, will it automatically create an account for them (like the transfer agent did)? It also seems this could become a "back door" for the "direct add" feature previously found only in Premium. Bruce -- Sent from my humble desktop computer |

Re: subscription proceedings
The Pending Member notice should be sent as soon as they try to join your group, though there have been reports of them being delayed, going to the spam folder, or getting lost.? The Email Confirmation email should be sent as soon as they enter an email address that the site doesn't recognize as a current user.

Permission To Send Invitation
The Membership Sec of one of the groups I have brought over is having great trouble sending invitations to new members who have joined since we migrated existing members over from YG.
I haven't seen her screen (despite asking her for a screenshot), but she insists that she does NOT have an Invite option in her Admin menu.? She is not a techie. She is a Moderator, and not an Owner.? Is that the problem? I'm an Owner in my other group and can see this Invite option on my menu. She's driving me mad, as everyone is coming to me but I (stupidly) deleted my Owner membership record last week as I didn't want get involved in the nitty gritty, so I can't help much. Apart from this, I'm hugely enjoying using GIO.? Thanks to one and all for all the help you give. Tim |

subscription proceedings
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks a lot, Duane, at what step of the procedure does the pending member get the questionnaire (members notice)? Is it the moment whe she/he signs up? Victoria ------------ |
Re: subscription proceedings
Victoria,
For the First:? There may not be much, if anything, that you can do about that [spam] notice.? It's probably a function of the email service used to receive messages, though it could be something in the email client.? Some people have found that changing the wording of the message helps.? Also increasing the text to link ratio.? Mark did a lot of tweaking with the standard emails to reduce the chances of it happening to most people. Second:? The NC next to the member name means they haven't confirmed that email address with the Groups.io site.? Once they click on the link in the email that was sent to confirm it, the NC will go away.? If their status doesn't change in a few days, you have the option at the bottom of their member detail page to Send Confirmation Email again, in case it got 'lost'.? Each person only has to confirm once per email address for the entire site, so this will only happen if they've never used Groups.io before. Re: Can transferring files be done separately?
#files
Shal,
Thank you for that information!? It gives me hope that we may be able to transfer our photos. My 750-member group had a smooth migration from Yahoo Group?to Groups.io about two weeks ago in all but one respect: only about 20% of our several hundred photos transferred over.? The transfer report from GIO said this was due to problems at Yahoo.? The photos are still up on the Yahoo version of the group, and I've been stressing over how to move 'em lock-stock-and-barrel over to the new group on Groups.io. Would you say it's likely that a second try following your directions has a good shot at getting more photos properly moved, or is that more likely to move the same photos and get the same error message from Groups.io? After 15 years on Yahoo Groups our group's moderators and members are finding life at Groups.io like a breath of fresh air.? Imagine, a groups platform that actually works like a well-oiled machine!? Who'd have thunk it?? ?Kudos to Mark and his team at GIO on the great job they've done! Thanks, Milt Baker, Nordhavn Owners Group |
subscription proceedings
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello, ? I have two more questions concerning subscription proceedings: ? First: After a would be member has signed up she/he qutomatically gets the questionnaire via member notice. This works fine now. But the questionnaire has (spam) in front of the subject, the header looking like this: ? ------------------------------------------------ ? ------------------------------------------------ ? Second: As owner of the group I now get the following message: -------------------------------------------- Email pending member ?applied to join your group [email protected]. Because the group is restricted, you will need to approve their subscription before they can join. To approve this member via email, simply reply to this message. To reject this member via email, forward this message to: NOTE: The pending subscription will expire after 14 days. If you do not take action within that time, the pending subscription will be automatically rejected. Thank you for choosing Groups.io Groups. Cheers, ----------------------------------------------- I then clicked on¡±view the pending member¡±, then clicked on the check box next to the pending and chose ¡°approve¡±. I get the message: --------------------------------------------- ? This is to notify you that email pending member has joined your group [email protected]. ? To turn off this notification, log into and edit your subscription. ? Thank you for choosing Groups.io groups. ? Cheers, ? The Groups.io Team ----------------------------------------- ? Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Must I confirm twice?? ? Victoria ? ? ? |
Re: Photo Album Ownership And Control
#membership
I have a lot of albums transferred from Yahoo! Groups, which seem to have reverted to Personal access but I can't see the owner. I am laboriously changing these to Group, so members can add photos. How do you see the owner of a Personal album, after entering Edit Album?
I would like to be able to see the settings without entering each album, in a list format. Regards John Russell |

Re: Continuity of IO
[mod note: this message and its replies moved from "Problem with Norton" to "Continuity of IO"] or so and this was the first time this has happened since I created my group in October 2014.? Would you like a list of the frequent and severe problems I have had in Yahoo Groups including losing everything in my original group a year after it was formed, seeing the size of messages drastically reduced and losing 90% of the groups I had subscribed to in another Yahoo crisis. One can do what they want, but occurances like the Norton issue are part of the internet and in my world Yahoo Groups has become vastly inferior and a major source of very serious issues in many ways in contrast to Groups.IO. Stick with Yahoo Groups and you should get burned somehow sooner and later.? Also, I have not seen that anyone suffered harm to their Groups.IO lists during the short period this Norton event happened as opposed to losing lists and memberships on Yahoo Groups in my case.? Also the Groups.IO problem was caused by outside companies in this Groups.IO case, but Yahoo problems are almost always issues with its own operations and this now extends into the Verizon ownership era. How many employees does Yahoo have in comparison with the very small and very effective staff of Groups.IO which can be counted on one finger of one hand? that day was on his last day of vacation in Paris, France.? Do you know of any Yahoo stories like that one?? During my group owner life, Yahoo Groups has been down for up to days at a time quite a few times and each time there is a discussion as to whether or not the service has come to an end elsewhere. Groups is no longer listed on the main Yahoo page, it has now been demoted to listing under the MORE link. I do not think that the mass migration of Groups from Yahoo to Groups.IO has been caused due to Yahoo being a superior service that will last for many years to come.? Neither would Yahoo transfer for your group, all of your Groups.IO content to Yahoo if you wanted to make that change, but the one man band here in Groups.IO does that in about one week caused by huge demand for this help. |
