Re: Deleting folders #files

Double-check that you are actually an owner. If so, there will be a blue "owner" tag next to your email address in the membership listing.

Also check to see if someone has disabled files entirely in the group settings by mistake.

Failing that, I'm at a loss, given your other investigations.

The member received a notice that included a link for them to rejoin immediately.? There have been multiple discussions about this, and possible solutions, both here and on the beta group.? Here are a couple of the more informative:

Why not use the settings in to help / let people manage the email flow?

You can set your default group settings using advanced preference. First post only, following only.?

It's either their email provider or a security program on their computer.

Sorry to say that neither of these suggestions helped.

There was no reaction to a mouse click anywhere along the line where the Edit and Move symbols show and crtrl- and ctrl+ did not produce anything either as the whole screen is available to view.. This is a mystery!

reported a message as spam and was removed. via email

Hi,

I received an email that a member was removed from my group --

Hello,

This is to notify you that??? EXAMPLE@yahoo.com has been unsubscribed from your group [email protected] because they marked a message as spam.

To turn off this notification, log into and edit your subscription.

Thank you for choosing Groups.io groups.

Cheers,

The Groups.io Team

OK, so what's this about?? I went to my group and no where did I find anything about Spam.
And since the member has been "unsubscribed" from my group how can they go into their subscriptions to turn off any notifications?

I'm lost?? Any ideas of what to do about this?

Does the member just rejoin?
Do they even know they have been unsubscribed from group?
Did they do it to themselves without knowing?

Any help is appreciated!

Febe

emails getting [SUSPECT] added to them

A few of our members are getting messages through our groups with
[SUSPECT] added to them, eg:
[SUSPECT] Re: [cdxc] Dayton 2018

It is not clear whether this is being added by groups.io or their own
email provider - I suspect the latter.

Has anybody else seen this and can offer an explanation?

Dave

Jed,

I will post a small photo as an example:
Ordinarily I wouldn't allow test messages in GMF. But... kitten.

I take it from the fact that you've deleted the message that you've learned whatever it was you needed to learn from it?

Re: Transfer Group from Yahoo

Al,

How many groups at groups.io have a subscriber base over 5,000
members?
Looks like around 20, counting them up in the Directory. I've no way of knowing about unlisted groups.

I did not know until the 24 February a message was sent from groups.io
titled "You have been added to the GroupEmailAddress". I have not yet
received such a message.
Any address already present in the Groups.io group when the transfer occurs won't get that message - they don't get added (again). Another reason an owner should always have a backup address or two lurking in his/her groups.

This message would not have identified those with no longer an
interest in our group but it would have at least the identification of
those subscribers who no longer have a valid email address.
I'm not sure what you mean here, but Mark missed a trick: this message does not feed into the Bounce History mechanism. However, the group's Welcome message (if there's one active during the transfer) does, so the dead addresses will be identified pretty quickly.

Note here when I did a test download of the membership data base I
found that the header giving the number code for the type of email
delivery did not match the identifier for some of the members.
Yeah, I've seen errors in that header line, and have reported them to support. Low priority I guess.

We have an message ready that we will be transmitting to all of our
subscribers, under "Special Notice" that the transfer is complete. We
have included that we no longer will accept the "No Email" delivery
option and that those that had chosen the "No Email" delivery where
converted to "Special Notice" delivery.
That purpose can be served by your group's Welcome notice.

We have included instructions on how to unsubscribe from the new group
if they no longer desire to be a member for any personal reason.
That purpose _is_ served by the "You have been added..." notice.

Re: Accessing Attachments

John,

... in Y!G, we had the option set so that attachments were always
stored on the website and accessed via a link. This link was coded (I
believe) so that you did not require a logon to access the attachment.
Correct.

I am just wondering how other ex Y!G moderators feel and if they would
like to see the same kind of access as Y!G introduced to Groups.io, so
there is a coded link and they don't need a login?
I'm solidly for that idea.

It should apply to attachment links distributed in Digests, and in Individual Messages when the member has elected to limit attachment size (Advanced Preference).

recurring scripts

Shal and Janet,

I answer to both of you. Thanks for your suggestions (see below) to put recurring scripts in either wiki or calendar. I?ll try out both options.

J?s answer:

My suggestion is to use a wiki page and specify it as the "sticky wiki." You specify which wiki page is the current sticky wiki in the "sticky wiki" field on the settings page. The first several lines of the sticky wiki appears as a banner at the top of the message.

An alternative is to create a sticky message, to the same end.

Shal?s answer: There is nothing in Groups.io that closely matches Yahoo Group's scheduled files. What I use is Calendar events. The Description field for the event can be formatted just like a message posting; but there's a little bit of added boilerplate above it and an automatic hashtag in the subject line.

I have a similar problem. One of my moderators contacted a Pending Member via web and checked the "Bcc: All Moderators" box to make sure that everyone was informed.
The other moderators received her message, but not me. And I am on All owner e-mails.

The message sent to the pending member wasn't even stored anywhere in the group. At least, I haven't been able to find it.

Re: Change/customize automatic calendar hashtag #hashtags #calendar

Marina,

I'd like to have just one reminder sent to the group. But all I get
are two different messages: one with the actual reminder (hashtag
#cal-reminder) and, on the deadline date, a second message with the
same reminder (hashtag #cal-notice).

This happens even if I don't check the options Send Invite to Group
and Sent Notice when Event happens.
Is there a way to have just one reminder sent to the group?
Unchecking "Send Notice when Event happens" should have prevented the second, #cal-notice, from being sent. Works for me anyway.

Though there have been some bugs reported involving updates (edits) to repeating events, so maybe this is something to have [email protected] take a look at for you.

Re: Non-Subscribers

Stan,

If I made all members of the subgroup, they would be getting emails of
topics they don't want to see, unless they modify their profile to
nomail in the subgroup, but then that becomes more complicated to
them.
In the subgroup's Settings page you could alter the Default Sub Settings to make their default Email Delivery be No Email (or Special Notices Only). Or Daily Summary might be appropriate.

Or, leave it at Individual Messages and use Message Selection instead.

Following Only plus Auto Follow Replies would mean they'd get email replies to any posts or replies they make in the subgroup. Which may pleasantly surprise (or just confuse).

Re: Welcome letters

Pamela,

Now when a new member accepts the invitation and joins the group, a
Welcome letter is automatically sent to them with the old, wrong group
name and hence, wrong email address.
I can see no where to fix this or to even stop the sending of this
particular email.
It is one of the Member Notices. Go to the Settings page of your group and click the button of that name. That should bring up a list with at least that one message listed. Probably only that one initially.

Click on its name to open and edit it. When finished click on the blue Update Notice button at the bottom.

Or you could stop it from being sent by unchecking the "Active Message" box.

You probably want to explore the other types of Member Notices that are available to you.

Re: Deleting folders #files

Margaret,

I am on a laptop running Windows XP. I assume the trash can is
alongside the notebook and pencil symbol (Edit?) and a pair of
scissors Move/Cut?)?
Yes. Each of those icons should have a hover text if you hover the cursor over them - Edit (pad and pencil), Move (scissors), Delete (trashcan) and Report File (flag).

If you hover in the blanks space to the right of the scissors (about as far as the distance from the pad and pencil to the scissors) does the hover text for Delete show up? And if you click in that empty space do you get the delete confirmation pop-up?

I'm just wondering if the functions aren't available to you, or if it is just the icons that are missing from your display. Kind of a long shot, but I otherwise don't see why you'd be allowed to Move but not Delete - and everyone should see the Report File flag.

Re: No Messages Transferred After 2013

Bryan,

However, now that I go into the group, there are no messages starting
in June of 2013. Any idea what happened? Is this something that I can
request to be put back into the queue for?
I don't know what might have happened, but if those messages are on the Y!Group but not on the Groups.io group I'd write to [email protected] to see if there's anything to be done about it.

Re: Deleting folders #files

Margaret,
Are you running Windows?? You might try Ctrl and the minus/hyphen symbol.? This should reduce the size of the window contents so you can see the entire window.? I find that recent website design often neglects to scale windows properly to the size of screen or browser window that the content is being viewed with.? Consequently edges of pages get cut off without the user having any idea they aren't seeing the whole page.?

Ctrl + and Ctrl - are useful to enlarge or reduce the font size or other elements on a webpage.? If it works properly, the text is re-flowed (if that's the right term) and the other page elements are adjusted to accommodate it.?

Similarly, is the window you are viewing with maximized to your screen size?? In a similar situation, I couldn't find a button on an app until I maximized the window, even though the window I was using was only pixels smaller that the maximized view.? Some of these things depend on the device you are using, I think.

Hope this helps.

I have refreshed the page and logged out and logged back in again, but this did? not reveal the trash can against files - still only a notepad and pen symbol and a pair of scissors symbol. Might my settings have something to do with this omission?
