The simplest remedy is to stop accepting non member posts, I see none at all in my various groups

The instructions to join and post are very simple, so why accept non member posts at all? As to reporting spam, IMHO its a complete waste of time Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 28/11/2024 15:45, Barry Porter KB1PA via groups.io wrote:

I tend to agree. Spammers are a dime a dozen. As soon as one is shut down, three more take its place. Also, the Email addresses they're using are either entirely bogus or belong to real people/companies that have no idea their addresses are being used this way. Blocking spam based on origin Email address is a losing game before you ever get started, as they can be harvested or generated by the billions. Re: "New Poll" menu item
Hi,
You must be administrator for your group. Then:
open? Admin - Preferences - Settings?
scroll to the bottom - you should see ?Features¡°
open that, and then scroll until you see ?Polls¡°. Then set the permission you want - ?Members can create¡°, ?Only Moderators can create¡° , or ?Polls are disabled¡°.?
Kind regards Thomas |
Re: I need to change the members account email address, but she no longer has access to the email account
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWell, this is correct, if she has a moderator of another group, the premium subscriber will not be allowed to change the email address. Which is why I had to have Mark help me change one of my friends email addresses.

We are not part of groups.io technical staff, so we can't do anything to fix bugs in the groups.io code. You, however, can get groups.io management's attention by posting in the beta group, where bugs can get addressed. You will need to post your problem in the beta group with the tag #bug in the subject line. You can also make suggestions there but instead use the tag #suggestion in the subject line. There is also a list of hashtags on the main page of the beta group, where you can also opt to join that group: You will most likely only use the two hashtags above but the entire list is there. If you want something addressed, you need to take the initiative to document your bug and explain it so the groups.io technical support people can validate, test, and fix the problem. Other members may test your problem in their groups to verify it's reproducible. Posting in this GMF group is a good first step, though, just to make sure it's not something you are overlooking. Re: Incorrect reminder
This is a peer-to-peer group of moderators. We can't make corrections to the software. You should post it on the Beta group that Groups.io owner and developer Mark hosts. ?[email protected]
?
However you might want to double-check your process. Perhaps you manually put in a reminder and when you edited the date of the event, you forgot to change it. If that's not what happened, perhaps you can describe your process so those that regularly use the calendar can spot any missteps. Or perhaps it is a real glitch that needs reporting!

Incorrect reminder
Cathy Howard
Our group (Santa Cruz Mountains Trails Association)changed a hike from Dec 1 to January 5. The correction appeared correctly on the calendar; however a remibder for the incorrect hike was sent out anyways by groups.io. Please correct this glitch as this is a confusing error! |
Re: Can people have groups.io email addresses?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDo you know I would send this to Mark and ask him to investigate this. I know he hasn't talked about hiring anybody. But perhaps he's applied to your group with an address. Which is his domain.

Re: I am still locked out of my own group.
Elias, Try this...? Go to your group?/g/YourGroupsName Halfway or lower on the page will be a list of Group Email Addresses Cut-n-paste the Group Owners email address into your email program...?? It should look something like this; [email protected] When/if you get that email that is the email address you have to use when you logging to Groups.io... It may help if we/I knew the name of your group...? We/you could look through the groups old emails if they are public of when you first created/emailed the group...? You may see your original email address...? YourFunnyName@......? That's the address you will need to use when you login to Groups.io...? Hopefully your browser has saved the password OR you have a password manager... Dallas N4DDM

For a real email account, no, unless they owned/have access to the Groups.io domain and its mail server. But practically, anyone could start a new group for just themselves and give out that address, and the emails will end up being posted to the group archives, provided that group was setup to accept non-member posts, otherwise they would be rejected. Have you tried going to that group address to see what info is shown on its home is provided? If you're online and logged in, you can click on Find or Create a group link on the blue bar uptop and search for the [initials] part of the address they used, but they may have it as not-listed in the directory so better yet, substitute it in here, /g/[initials] then copy and paste that into your browser. If it errors out then that was a bogus email address, no clue why they gave that address specifically, could had been anything for that matter if the intent was to give a fake address. If that group exists, what does it show? How many members, what are the Group Settings, etc. Cheers, Christos |
Re: I am still locked out of my own group.
?If you are getting emails about pending messages, try to log in with that email where the messages are addressed to. And you can approve / moderate messages by email.
